Official NFL Draft and Draft Weekend Trades Thread

Figured we could use a different thread than the Free Agency one for this.

We're still a few days from the draft on Satuday, but in a move that I would consider very much draft related, the Rams traded thier 5th rounder to the Chiefs for Dante Hall. There is also a chance they swapped 3rd rounders (STL is 82nd overall, KC 84th overall prior to a trade), but I haven't seen that confirmed.

I'm very excited about this move. I know Hall isn't as explosive as he was a few years ago, in part because people know him and what he could do so they play him better.

But nonetheless, this is the first time since Tony Horne and Az Hakim that the Rams had any worthwhile really worthwhile return man.

There were a lot of hints that the Rams were going to go with Ted Ginn Jr. at 13th overall in the draft, but that seems very unlikely now.

Has hall fumbled lately? If not, then yeah, great pickup. (Lordy, I miss Horne....)

If they had burned the 1st on Ginn though.....(if they burned the first on anyone who doesn't play defense for that matter.....) my tv might have been broke.

Since we are on the subject of Ram drafts, given their past performance in drafting, I really hope they pull off the Jenkins deal.

With any luck the Browns will trade down for more picks. Then again hoping for luck with the Browns is like hoping for a white Christmas in Miami. Screw it. They're going to suck no matter who they pick so why worry about it? :D

As the first Bucs fan to post here, I'd like to see them do their damnedest to draft Calvin Johnson. If by chance he's off the board, and we cant find a team willing to work with us in a trade for our draft pick, I'd like to see us go for Joe Thomas.

We'll see in a day or so what happens.

Id personally rather see Gaines Adams in Red and Pewter if CJ isnt available.

32. Indianapolis - Justin Harrell, DT, Tennessee

This is the one that I've been hearing the most, and I agree with it wholeheartedly. D-Line is the Colts biggest concern right now and should be the first thing addressed. The two ideas that I've heard as possible alternatives would be to either trade down for the Jets 2nd round picks or to take Dwayne Jarrett. If the latter happens, I may just throw something. Nothing against Jarrett but I really don't think a 3rd dominant receiver is the best option for the Colts, unless they're using him as bait for something else.

*There is a big rumor going around that Atlanta will trade up to #2 and draft Calvin Johnson. Then Detroit at #8 will take Patrick Willis (Nooooooo!)

Greenshoe, because you're from Cali, and for anybody else that has seen him play: Almost every mock draft has Marshawn Lynch to the Packers. I haven't seen much of him. Should I be excited? My initial reaction is a little underwhelmed.

The more and more I think about it, I really, really want the Lions to draft Calvin Johnson. He's clearly the most hyped player in the draft, according to what I've gathered from ESPN and the like. From what I've heard over the last day or so, the Lions are really interested, which seems like a better idea than going after an O-lineman 2nd overall. Although the Lions just picked up a WR from Minny(I forget which...Robinson maybe?), I'd still like to have a Roy/Furrey/CJ combo. I'm assuming somewhere in the draft, the Lions will in fact get the O-line help they need.

On a side note, I'd love to see Drew Stanton in honolulu blue. Personally, I'd rather have him than Brady Quinn. I'm not taking anything away from Quinn - he's a great player, no doubt, but I liked what I saw from Stanton more.

Im starting to get that sinking feeling that not only will Tampa not get Calvin Johnson, but that this will turn out to be one of the most disasterous drafts in recent memory.

Why do I agree with you??? (A lil bit anyway)....

You know, half the problem with making yourself known and heard (speaking of Gruden here) is that people KNOW...and then do things to jam you up (see: Matt Millen taking Calvin Johnson and then trying to bait the Bucs into a horrendous trade)... :cursing:

And I swear fo' tha Lawd if Gruden even THINK of trying to entertain the possibility of taking Adrian Peterson in the third round, I'm aiming a cannon STRAIGHT AT HIS OFFICE WINDOW...and FIRING THAT CANNON!!!

*Disclaimer: I am not an authoritative expert on stuff...I just do a lot of reading and research and keep in close connect with a bunch of people who are authoritative experts on stuff. 😁

Draft news:

Texans | Team to move down in draft

Fri, 27 Apr 2007 10:45:45 -0700

Neil Stratton, of Inside the League, reports that the Houston Texans, as rumored previously, will swap first-round draft picks with the Denver Broncos in this year's NFL Draft Friday, April 27, in exchange for the Broncos' second-round pick, No. 56 overall. With the Texans' first- and second-round picks, the team is considering four players: Utah FS Eric Weddle, Ohio State WR Anthony Gonzalez, USC WR Dwayne Jarrett and Florida S Reggie Nelson.

Tony Grossi, of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, reports Cleveland Browns WR Braylon Edwards' name has been floated around the league to gauge interest in a trade.
Why?
Vikings | Team could trade No. 7 overall draft pick

Thu, 26 Apr 2007 18:43:43 -0700

Don Seeholzer, of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, reports Minnesota Vikings president of player personnel Rick Spielman said that he has talked to teams that are interested in trading up to acquire the Vikings' No. 7 overall draft pick and one team that is interested in trading down to it. Spielman said, "If anything happens, more than likely it wouldn't happen until draft day, and probably not until we're on the clock."

The more I think about it (and look at the CBs), I'm going to be very angry if DE or DT is not by the Rams' 1st Round pick. They need a run stuffer, NOW!!!
