Seeing a Gold Buffs Jersey, brings back fond memories of my freshman year, in Boulder...

Let's hope they wear these for a game!

I personally like these the best...

I usually enjoy it when teams incorporate gold, sliver, or powder blue -- just not when you combine them all. Ouch!

I'm gonna guess those helmets and pants were a shiny silver, while the jersey itself was gold. That's what it looks like...and actually, that might be an interesting combo today, even.

On another note...how come football players of today don't take pictures like this no more? I love looking at old footballer photos when they're captured in poses like this.

As a current Buffalo, I'm glad these were ditched. I could not take my team seriously if they showed up to play football wearing...that.

Not even close. If they really wanted to, they could put the numbers high and small in the front, which would be kind of fun to see.

I have returned from a day in Boulder...sad and embarrassing outcome for Buffs fans, like myself. I saw this jersey in many stores, and actually the numbers are small and raised on the chest and the backside. The panels are very visible. So, you know what? It looks pretty damn good, though most stores do not think the team will be wearing them in an actual game.

and if you thought the New Orleans Saints had a hard time matching their golds, then this is ridiculous. The numbers and stripes on that jersey are YELLOW.

You're probably too young to remember this, but 15 years ago, subbing yellow for actual gold was actually pretty commonplace. I think the gold color was difficult to replicate in print or something. Just about all the merchandise available for Notre Dame in the early '90s was navy and yellow - which in a lovely twist of irony, actually made it look a whole lot like Michigan. Actual "gold" in their merch didn't really get a widespread reach until about '95 or '96.

I really doubt Nike would put it out if they weren't going to wear it.

Just got word from the University Magtazine that the Buffs will be wearing throwbacks next Saturday at home vs. Wyoming. But, they described the jerseys at grey, with a grey helmet and gold pants, so it does not seem like the jersey being sold to honor Byron "Whizzer" White, is the one we will see on the field...

Stay Tuned!

Anyone have pictures of this? I tried looking it up online and found nothing so far.

BOULDER - Through the years, the University of Colorado athletic department has received feedback from alumni and letterwinners alike about coming up with ways to recognize those teams and students prior to the last quarter century.

As it often goes everywhere, the more recent accomplishments usually come to mind, with those who toiled decades ago sometimes forgotten. This Saturday against Wyoming, CU will pay homage to an era that first put the school on the national football map: the 1930s.

The football team will don the jersey of that era, gold in color with black numbers, along with silver pants. That decade, CU had two players lead the nation in rushing, Kayo Lam (1935) and Byron White (1937); White led the country in several categories that 1937 season and was named the school's first All-American in football. The field will also be reminiscent of how it appeared over 50 years ago, especially in the lettering and the end zone design.

In 1998 against Baylor, CU honored the past but the jersey produced for the game really didn't resemble anything the team had ever worn before. That's not the case this time around.

This year also marks the sesquicentennial, or 150th anniversary of the city of Boulder and the field will be marked to acknowledge so. At halftime, the university will salute several former members of the Board of Regents; courtesy of long-time university friend and supporter, Stephen Tebo, those regents who will return to campus will be shuttled around the field in one of Tebo's vintage classic cars from his personal collection.

To close the halftime ceremonies will be a salute to senior Jenny Barringer, likely the most celebrated female student-athlete in school history. She will be presented with her award for being selected as the Honda Track & Field Athlete of the Year.

The concept was coordinated with NIKE, which designed and produced the special uniforms, which were provided to the university as a part of NIKE's annual support package. The throwback jersey is currently for sale on-line at CUBuffs.com/store, the CU Bookstore and other local retail outlets.

I actually don't mind the look...I just need to see them in action with the silver helmets.

Hold up.

For the longest, I've been trying to understand this new jersey template Nike's been using over the past three years or so, and now that I get a close up of the thing...this is how they utilize the mesh? From a distance, I couldn't even tell if the old regular mesh material was being used anymore. What's the material used for the shoulder area and front/back panel? Looks like the shrink-wrap-ish material being used so much these days.

Up close, that mixture looks really goofy to me. But, I'm sure Nike has its reasons for this "design". And of course, I'm sure they're like 13% lighter and thus will make the players like 6% faster or some ish like that.

(I can also now really see how the two-tone effect occurs after the shrink-wrap panels become filled with any kind of moisture.)

On a whole 'nother note...I'm trying really hard to see any kind of stripe on the pants in those old photos, but I ain't seeing one, so is this pant stripe just something Nike threw in for the hell of it? And, from the look of those old photos, it looks like the pants and helmet had a shiny sheen to it-something that I guess the different apparel outfitters have become allergic to in the past three or four years. I wonder if the pants were a flat gray meant to resemble silver in those days. If not...why not produce a shiny sheen silver for the pants for this uniform set? (And what's with the brown-ish looking black numbers on the jersey?)
