2010-11 NBA Season

With baseball slowly winding down, football at full speed, and hockey just starting, I find that the sport on my mind far more than I thought it would be is the NBA. The preseason hath begun, and as you all know, three of the NBA's best players have taken their talents to South Beach to dominate the league unlike any team has before. Some washed up old guys have signed on for the ride as well, but we'll just have to hope that scrubs like LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh have enough in the tank to keep up with superstars like Ilgauskas, House, and Miller. (ba-dum ching!)

I can't wait to see what happens here. Can the Heat surpass the 72-win record? Will they even win the East? Can Kobe three-peat? Are the Celtics better-suited for NBA competition or 50+ rec league competition? Will Cleveland go from #1-seed to last place? So many questions; so much time until October 26 when the season starts. Until then, fire away your bold predictions for Miami and the rest of the league. Right now, only one thing's for sure: This is personal now. ^_^

Wake me up for the Lakers games against the Heat, Celtics, the games against the Suns in Phoenix (I'm going dammit :D ), and then again in April when the Lakers are fighting for home court in the playoffs and into the playoffs.

The Lakers are on the road to three-peats - The current one, Phil Jackson's 4th, Kobe and D-Fish's 2nd.

GO LAKERS!

I think many experts are counting the Celtics out this year, which is a huge mistake. The C's have added fantastic pieces in the offseason to make it another run at a banner for the now "Big 4, plus Shamrock". I don't think i've been pumped to get a season underway in quite a while...

I think there's already an NBA thread going...but people were still arguing about LeBron in the offseason thread, so that other thread died. Oh well, looks like this one has legs so I'll go in.

Eastern Conference

1 Miami - NBA Finals Runner-Up (Not ready to pick em yet. Still don't think that the team as a whole is better than Kobe n'them.)

2 Orlando - Conference Finals Exit in 7 (A Miami-Orlando Conference finals would be fun as HELL to watch. Can't wait to see it. )

3 Boston - Second Round Exit in 7 (Age is going to catch up to this team...not this year, though)

4 Atlanta - Second Round Exit in 5 (No way in hell this team is getting past the 2nd Round. As much as I'd love it...no chance in hell.)

5 Chicago - First Round Exit in 7 (Because it isn't an Atlanta Hawks first round playoff series w/o them underachieving but winning it)

6 Milwaukee - First Round Exit in 6 (Hey, Boston always lets these young whippersnappers stay around in the first round. Milwaukee will be the next. Bogut not being 100% still will hurt them.)

7 New York - First Round Exit in 5 (They are much better, but still can't play any defense. That's the Mike D'Antoni way, though.)

8 Washington - First Round Exit in 4 (Wall + Arenas = FUN FUN FUN)

Miami > Washington in 4

Orlando > New York in 5

Boston > Milwaukee in 6

Atlanta > Chicago in 7

Miami > Atlanta in 5

Orlando > Boston in 7

Miami > Orlando in 7

Western Conference

1 LA Lakers - NBA Champs (They're the defending champs, and they got better over the offseason. Why not pick them for the 3-peat?)

2 Dallas - First Round Exit (I know, I know...picking a 2 seed, then predicting them to be 1-&-Done. This is Dallas, that's what they do.)

3 OKC - Conference Finals Exit in 7 (They're everybody's sexy pick to take a big leap forward. Who am I to not be sexy? :P)

4 Utah - Second Round Exit in 5 (Gotdamn Lakers will get them again.)

5 Portland - First Round Exit in 7 (Utah-Portland will be an exquisite first round series.)

6 Phoenix - First Round Exit (Nash is starting to get up there, the decline is coming for the Suns.)

7 Denver - Second Round Exit in 6 (If Melo stays, they're a playoff team & could do some damage if they get there. If not, disregard.)

8 Houston - First Round Exit in 5 (24 mins-a-game Yao > No Yao. First round is as far as they get, though.)

LA Lakers > Houston in 5

Dallas < Denver in 6

OKC > Phoenix in 6

Utah > Portland in 7

LA Lakers > Utah in 5

OKC > Denver in 6

LA Lakers > OKC in 6

NBA Finals

LA Lakers > Miami in 7

I tell you what though, it's gonna be a fun season to watch. Yeah, anybody outside of Los Angeles, Miami, Orlando, & Boston (Maybe OKC if Durant takes another quantum leap) have outsider's chances of winning it all, but it will still be an entertaining season of basketball. So many changes, so many old faces in new places, so many interesting storylines both on & off the court. This season is gonna be awesome.

No playoff predictions because those are always a crapshoot, especially when Donaghy-esque refs get involved.

Heat F Mike Miller out until January w/ thumb injury.

Well, that was one of the better role players to compliment that three-headed monster that they have, so this is a bit of a hit.

Which also brings up an interesting question: What happens if one of LBJ/Wade/Bosh gets injured? Especially Wade, who isn't exactly known as being the most durable player in the NBA & already had a small problem with his hamstring during the preseason. Of course they'd still be a playoff team...but it would be terrible for them if the injury bug decided to hit.

Depends when it hits. So long as they are healthy in the playoffs, they should be fine.

Welp, looking like HEAT-CELTICS GAME OF THE CENTURY I will be going down to the wire, despite the Celtics almost leading from wire-to-wire.

Celtics are really pissing this game away. I still think they pull it out, though.

If you can slow the game down and force the Heat to play in the halfcourt offense, I think you can beat them. So when the playoffs come around and the games slow down, Miami may have issues.

Miami is starting to get it together, but it's too little too late tonight, as the C's have this one locked up.

And all the talk about the Heat making a run at the Bulls' single season wins record is out the window, at least for the time being.
