B1G Revisions

I agree with this. Yes, saying he has no creativity was a bit over the line, but there's also a part of me that wants to see Tim prove this wrong somehow. The most creative thing we've seen so far is the candy-striped pants. Nothing inventive, per se, and as I've said before-- I feel like these are just regurgitations of the current/recent sets.

Nebraska Blackshirts was a good idea, and that's the kind of original thinking that a concept series like this needs. I hate the fact that the B1G has a stigma around it that it's 'untouchable.' Nothing is untouchable, and I hardly feel like that's a valid excuse for 'playing it safe'. There are subtle changes you can make without being a repeater.

Also, it would serve you well to update this template to a Speed Machine template, as the template you are currently using is for last year's jersey style from Nike. Just a minor detail, but I think it would help sharpen up the presentation, as I think I speak for a lot of people in saying that this template has been beat to death with a shovel.

Tim, I think it would be a good idea to push yourself, just a little bit. You'd be getting much better feedback, and I think it would showcase your creativity more.

Exactly. I'm hoping this propels him to get more creative with his designs. The one thing he has going for him is the presentation, which most people lack. That's part of what drives me insane. He has the resources and skills to pull off some great stuff, but he never uses them to their full potential.

But, what good is being 'creative' with a football uniform when the end product looks gimmicky and childish, and, well, looks more like a speed skating bodysuit than a football uniform? That's not design either. Not good design, anyway. If you have to toss it in a season or two because it's not trendy anymore or it looks dated, that's a bad design, and that's what Tim is trying to avoid. I don't love his designs, and I think there are things that he could do to liven up his heritage-inspired designs, bit his core philosophy is in the right place.

I really don't mean for this to come off like an attack, but every 'creative' idea you suggested in your earlier post was bad. Really bad. Cornrow shoulder stripes and corn patterned numbers? These are grown freaking men wearing this stuff, not fifth graders.

Well it did. And once again, what do MY concepts have to do with this thread, save for the fact that I mentioned you can think outside the box and maintain tradition in doing so? Jesus Christ, guys. Can we not not like a design? Perhaps there is a conflict of design interest here-- actually, there clearly is-- but pulling out the "I know what you are, but what am I?" bull :censored:is childish.

I merely suggested he think outside the box a little more, do some things different. All the examples you showed? Yes, those utilize a bit more creativity, IMO.

I see no further point in adding C&C, anyway, because there's no intent to make edits. Why ask for comments on your design if you're going to refute everything and call it "reductive" when we ask you to step outside the traditional comfort zone, and not even make changes?

Seems really :censored: pointless to me. I'm done with this.

I was responding to thespleenenator, not you. This is how quotes work. If I was responding to you, I would have replied to your post, not spleenenator's. Second, of course it came off as an attack. It was an obvious tongue-in-cheek retort to spleenenator's previous comment directed at Tim.

There's nothing wrong with crazy ideas. There's nothing wrong with creativity. But, not all those crazy ideas work well for a football uniform. There are a century of established precedents for what works, and as with any design project, you get the best results by using those precedents as a guideline, and then injecting a little personality into it to make it unique. Timeless styles and design elements always have a bit of contemporary flair, no matter how old they are.

Outside the box is fine, but you also have to know when you've gone too far outside the box and how to reel it back in, which I think is something that you guys struggle with in much the same way that Tim struggles with breaking ouside the box in the first place. Tim, these most recent links you've shared show some real promise. Better balance between traditional and modern.

It's an analogy I use often, but next time you do a concept, imagine you're designing the new uniform for your local police department. How do you make it contemporary, recognizable and respectful of the classic look we associate with a police uniform without making it look too informal or trendy?

While these are not incredibly revolutionary, they are pretty much what I'd like to see these teams do (with the exception of the much-loved red/white IU pants and the thick MSU helmet stripe. Most teams don't need to push the envelope. In fact most team specifically need not to push the envelope.

Overall, the Big Ten (primaries anyway) has a solid set of uniforms and little change is needed. The tweaks (particularly Northwestern, but also small things like the white outline on Minnesota's helmet logo) are generally good and all that is needed.

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

See, now Purdue is a team you could have gotten really creative with, since they don't have a distinct look that they're known by, yet you basically recreated their unis from last year. I can understand if you don't want to change Ohio St. or Penn St., but you played it WAY too safe here.

I've silently been on your side throughout this entire fiasco, but I can't back you here man. You gotta do something more.

Some of these are valid points, I definately could've gone less traditional with PurDon't, but I disagree that PU doesn't have an iconic look they're know by. From well before brees to orton up to last season the boilers wore pretty much the same unis.

But I am thinking about doing one outlandish/more original design for each team soon. Maybe I'll redeem myself then.

This, this and this are actually quite different. And when I think "Purdue Football," I don't think about a distinct style of uniform like with an Ohio St., Penn St., Michigan, ND, Oklahoma, etc. I just think black and gold.

Today we end this long, bizarre, tangential odyssey with Wisconsin:

Almost no change here, the only thing I do with them is insist that they never wear red pants. Without red pants, Wisconsin more clearly defines it's images from that of Nebraska and Indiana (nut especially Nebraska). At Home there's just too much red and with the Road, it makes them look even more like Nebraska (something they don't need any help doing).

Gah. You left that stupid black dropshadow on the Motion W. Such and unnecessary design element. I also might consider darkening the red 1. to differentiate from Nebraska and 2. to better replicate true Cardinal.

Today I bring you the first of six (I think/hope) uniform matchups I'm calling The Rivalry Series. Today, I bring you a matchup close to my heart: IU vs. Purdue - The Battle for the Old Oaken Bucket.

IU_PU_Rivalry_1.jpg

Purdue: As this years visitors, Purdue comes to The Rock wearing all old gold. The 'P' logos; helmet, shoulder and pants stripes; and numbers all sink up to match: Black trimming White. The numbers are a modern variation of classic varsity block. Finally the compression shirt and socks are Boiler black.

Indiana: I bring back the much beloved candy-striped pants but pair them with (a variation of) their actual 2011 jersey. The helmet is logo-less and features candy-stripes much in the way Maryland featured the Maryland flag. Now, my image show that the compression shirt sleeves and the socks not matching, but that is because each individual player can either wear vertical or horizontal stripes (so long as they wear all matching). This allows for fun customization while still being 'uniform'.

EDIT: This is my own template - Let me know what you think.

That Indiana uniform has to be the worst one I have ever seen. Sorry dude, I gotta be honest on that.

Looks like someone you would see IN a hospital, not someone who would PUT you in a hospital!!!

The Purdue uni is really good looking, so Purdue wins.

Indiana looks like a bunch of clowns, now their attire fits their team and state.

You're from Kentucky dude, don't think you can talk.

But to get on topic, the Purdue unis look good, but IU is just too much. Go with solid red socks and helmet.

You're from a state where it's illegal not to marry a relative. Thanks for the feedback but shouldn't you focus on explaining the birth defects to your retarded children?

Rivalry series? Hmmm sounds familiar... ;)

I totally stole this from you. I've seen your B1G stuff and completely forgot that you did this. Whoops! Credit to you.

I didn't realize that was your school, if I knew that I would not have taken that cheap shot. But as a Kentucky fan you know our hatred of IU, except for Bobby Knight, the general was a great coach.

Take the cheap shot, don't back down, it's all in good fun. Just make sure your team of cheaters brings it on Dec 10th because you best believe Crean's first decent team definitely will.

I don't think we have nothing to worry about.
