  3. Or Michigan didn't use a helmet that looks like Princeton's? That helmet is as much a part of Delaware football as it is for Michigan. I don't see a reason they should dump it.

  4. I'm surprised on how unpopular this is, but I cannot stand the Giants (or almost any team for that matter) wearing grey pants. I don't know what the love is for them (maybe because their "vintage"), but they look so out of place and it's not part of their color scheme. The only color outside of their color scheme that they should being using for their pants is white because it's a neutral color.

  7. End up? This was embarrassing from the day they rejected Quebec City's expansion bid for being too far east and gave the 32nd team to the stronger candidate of No One.

  8. This is going to end up being one of the most embarrassing travesties in professional sports, and we're all going to try to ignore the shame of this expansion identity for years before it finally starts to fix itself... ...and then 25 years from now, the people who were children today will think that the original expansion idea was amazing because they're nostalgic for their childhoods, pushing for the team to go back to it full time and reversing all the progress that had been made while we all shake our heads and have arguments on whatever replaces message boards as to whether or not it should be happening.

  11. Not to offend the original creators of those concepts, but... who would buy them? I mean, the artwork is solid, but I just don't see a big market for printing and framing some random graphic designer's idea of a sports team concept. Setting aside my design inclinations for a moment, as purely a sports fan I would rather buy a poster of my favorite player (see: photograph) or maybe something that showed the history of my team's uniforms. These guys all seem like some 6th grader who figured out how to open a simple eStore (all the websites are cookie cutter) and they just post random Google Image results that apparently, people will pay $5 for. If you're that hard up for a printed image of a concept, why not just download it and head to the UPS Store yourself?

  12. Weighing in on the Cardinals' navy road hats - It feels like I'm in the minority on this one, but I prefer the blue hats on the road. It's probably because that's what I grew used to as I was coming of age, but that's where I stand. When they wear red on the road it looks like they accidentally packed the wrong set of helmets or something. It's just off. I think designating different colored hats for home and road is a unique quirk in baseball aesthetics that works for certain teams and wearing darker, more drab colors on the road is an old baseball tradition that fits the Cardinals own personal aesthetic. I like that when the Cardinals play in Cincinnati it's one of the few places where they still wear the blue hats. Isn't it kind of weird to let your opponent dictate when you wear a certain cap? They're the only team that has this policy. The Nationals don't wear their red hats on the road when they're playing the Braves, for example. Red hats work on the road for the following teams: Reds, Angels, Phillies, but I think they just don't look good on the Cardinals when they're in the road grays. They don't look bad, but the blue headgear looks better. Sort of related: if they're going to continue to wear the blue bird on bat hats on Sundays they need to get some matching helmets.

  24. I think we should wait and see what actually happens in Las Vegas before calling it a complete disaster. I know everyone wants to know the name like yesterday and are fearing it will be something completely stupid, but let's just wait. Did anyone think San Jose or Dallas would work out? I know Phoenix and Carolina have been a bust, but the real problem wasn't going there in the first place; it's staying there for as long as they have. As for Quebec, if the Canadian dollar was much higher than it is right now, the league might have given them an expansion team, too. Still possible a team moves to Quebec, too.

  28. I might agree with you if the Reno thing bothered more than you and a relatively few number of people, but honestly Bucfan, that doesn't seem to be the case. It's not an issue with anyone that I've talked to in Vegas, and I can almost guarantee you that, perhaps outside of some folks in Reno, no one outside of Vegas will even notice. Are most hockey fans even aware of the Reno Aces minor ball team? I don't think so. Aces is by far the most popular option in Vegas, and Las Vegans are all aware of the Reno thing. Again IMO it's a non-factor. If Mr. Foley is all about paying homage, he can tip the cap to West Point with the team's colours...he can acknowledge his Air Force service and the aviation history of Nevada, while giving a wink-wink to the unique culture of Vegas...all with the "Aces" concept. Like the admiral said...to do the "gambling-what-gambling?" thing is ridiculous. You're putting "Las Vegas" in front of "any team name"...there's gonna be a gaming reference. It'll be fine. You may have found my "Aces" presentation uninspired (really?)...but it certainly wasn't lazy.

  29. ugh i was in the military and his reasoning for a team name is beyond stupid at this point. PICK. A. NAME!! I enjoy a rolling trainwreck as much as the next person but it's being dragged out for the sake of being dragged out. Las Vegas Knights. Pun on "nights". Fits just enough that it's not awful. Then finagle stuff so that the London team is somehow part of the filler for LV. What, the affiliate can't be named like the parent team? Like the Providence Bruins, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, Albany Devils, Binghamton Senators, Iowa Wild, Texas Stars....oh that's only the TOP affiliate. Guess on the Junior levels it's different. Asinine reasoning. Or...or...just go with the freaken obvious name from the get-to. Aces. Screw the other team in the other half of the state that plays in an entirely different sport that again, isn't even the top-level of said sport. Aces is military, fulfills his stupid military boner....oh wait, it's not Army so DOESN'T COUNT!!! (again, more jackass reasoning), ties just enough to the obvious gambling reference that isn't over the top. (but OH NOES!!! gambling is bad! yup, the first thing people think about with Vegas is the family-friendly atmosphere provided by the mass quantities of casinos there) This is turning into another Bobcats situation. The guy clearly wants to make his mark by having it be HIS name on HIS team and doesn't care how long it's dragged out as long as it's HIS mark left on the team.....you know before it becomes Nordiques 2.0 (obligatory QUE joke is obligatory) tl;dr pick a name already

  30. Las Vegas Silver Stallions? It's a lot of s, but I kinda like it. It has two parts, the silver is a nod to the state's history, and mounted soldiers are offensively-minded. Horses are cool. You could even throw a knight in there in the logo.

  31. Why don't the Red Sox use midnight/dark navy on their pullovers and alternate jerseys? I always see a discrepancy in the colors between their dark caps and their lighter jerseys and pullovers but with other teams, like the Yankees and Tigers, I always see the darker navy used on both. Compare the caps with the tops on these pictures, why don't the Red Sox fix this? It makes the Boston caps look black.

  35. Alright, the next team I had on my plate was the Minnesota Twins (sorry @coco1997, I'll get to your Sox next). It was tough because here is a team with yet another red and blue color scheme, but it was very much part of their history. Having been the original Washington Senators, the color scheme of red, white, and blue was all they ever had. So trying to find a color identity for the Twins was tough. So in trying to get some inspiration, I was looking at the NHL color combos and thought to myself "Hey, what if the Twins had the same color palette as the Wild?" So that is what I did. Minnesota Twins/Wild fusion! So the home puts and emphasis on red, while the road pushes the green. When we come to the alt, the gold color is used more in the lettering and numbers, while that gold is only used in the cap TC logo.

  38. Small update. The more I looked at the uniforms the more I wanted Indy to emphasis on the white. There is no team that focuses on white as their main color, much like yellow is not a primary color. So I simplified the trim and put a small detail on the "Stars" script. The road reverses the color of the "Indianapolis" script to again focus on white as the primary. How about that?

  39. I don't want to jump too far ahead, I still have to finish off the Diamondbacks and Rays, but I did have the home and away uniforms for my MLB expansion Portland Beavers! Now, this is what I think would/should happen if MLB does an expansion. IMO what is really going to happen is the Athletics are going to leave Oakland and go to Portland. They naturally will become the Portland Athletics (Portland A's) and MLB will expand to someplace like Las Vegas or Vancouver. The color scheme of the A's would rock in Portland as the MLS Timbers already sport a similar color scheme. Again, that is what I think reality has in store for us. Now, if MLB expands (vs relocation), I would suggest they take the very rich baseball tradition of Portland in the form of the Beavers. Red was a pretty constant theme through out the history of the team(s), so I continued that tradition. I also used pinstripes for an older, more established feel for the team (also a history of it too). I used the color palette of 2003 Beavers set, which included a funky black that has a grey green tint to it. Anyways, here they are: Still working on Alternate uniforms, but I might go minimal on Portland. The hipsters wouldn't stand for too much alternate stuff, they want things retro.

  40. Yep, you nailed the Rockies. That new shade of purple does wonders to make the black actually look good and necessary. Bring on the next team!

  41. Ok, so what if the real problem is not the black, but the purple? I've been kinda blind just following the purple they used I never stopped to ask if that should change. This was a very quick search, but I picked a lighter, more royal purple. Something with more red to it. EDIT: Looking at this on the site, I should make the CR white with black outlines for an all purple hat. I'll work on that.

  42. Ok, the next stop is the purple mountain majesty of the Colorado Rockies. I wanted to simplify the font and the overall design. My first step was to cut the silver from the color palette. Purple, Black, and White remain for the Rockies' colors and then I made things cleaner from there, starting with the main logo: Then I moved on to the uniforms. The chest wording was in the simplified font. For the home I made the uniform with purple lettering and purple pinstripes. The undershirts and hat I kept as black with a black stock that has purple and white stripes. Home Alt introduces a full purple jersey. The road I just pumped the purple a bit more. The hat crown is still black but has a purple bill. I tried all purple hat, but it just didn't look that great, imo. The road alt introduces a black jersey. I found I needed some white pipping as the black and the purple undershirt was playing havoc on my eyes. It is odd I didn't get that same reaction to the Home Alt, but I might do a similar treatment there, depending on the feedback. That is Rockies so far. C+C?

  43. Thanks for the feedback guys! Here's a version with black as the primary in place of red... I really like the Peace Tower logo. It's the only on-ice logo any Ottawa Senators team has ever had that actually attempts to reflect the team's namesake. I just didn't know where to work it in. The profile centurion is the strongest option for the primary. The exercise was to make the barberpole look work in a modern context, so I opted for the =O= over the peace tower for the alternate. I suppose I could have used the Peace Tower and claimed the stripes alone were enough to represent the barberpole era, but the =O= gives it just that extra touch. As for trying to have my cake and eat it too...I honestly don't see that. All three logos I considered, the Peace Tower, the =O=, and the centurion, are disconnected. One is a Roman solider. One is the letter "O" on top of two stripes. One is the central structure of the Canadian Parliament buildings. No two fit together in and of themselves. Any two can be used with each other, in my opinion.

  44. I don't know if people are saying the Sens copied the Devils in some ways with their original jersey, but the Devils changed to black and red the same year the Senators joined the league. With the Senators original jerseys, both the black and white, I feel the red wasn't too dark that it blended into the black. I'll take the original set over what they have now and I hope that if they get the new building, they will change.
