  1. So if you don't change it up and just go with your last name, does that mean you're racist and support institutional racism? I like the idea but it essentially forces everyone to participate even if they would like to choose other ways to express their support for BLM or might feel like they're in a 'look at me' type situation and would rather not do it.

  4. This debate over the runner on second is really a waste of typing since I really don't think the season will finish - even if it starts. People simply refuse to do what's necessary to control this thing, which means more and more states will be shutting down again. Even Phila, which had been on a down trend, just pushed off things like limited indoor restaurants for another month because people are defiant idiots. There's just no way to safely do this, and I don't blame any player at all that sits out. Might as well make a 2021 thread... though even that season probably won't start on time if there's not enough doses of a vaccine available.

  5. Not feeling the Barca kit, to be honest. The halftone shading makes the shirt look damp/sweaty and there's too much yellow on the shirt between the collar, pinstripes, crest, swoosh, and numbers. Yellow works best on a Barcelona kit when it supports the red and blue and acts as an identifier, not when it competes against the red and the blue as a design element.

  8. Any way you cut it, this is a major upgrade... particularly for a Division II institution. Frankly, the D'Youville College Saints logo would be an outstanding mark for a Division I athletics program. Phenomenal work on the part of Rickabaugh Graphics! 10. I agree. But the whole 'yellow represents the sunsets we have' thing to give meaning to colours is so deluded. Like, really? Any colour can be given justification like that, especially when you're talking about something as generic and ubiquitos as sunsets lol. Blue and green should stay as Vancouvers colours. I don't like the skate logo, but part of my lack of support for it is simply trying to avoid another departure from a solid colour scheme.

  12. Normally, a Division III school that is moving to Division II wouldn't get noticed... but D'Youville (from Buffalo) is making that move. To go with this move, they're changing their nickname from the Spartans to the Saints.

  13. On the Icon jersey, could you try the team name in red and see what that looks like? It is hard to read the gold "Atlanta" with the white background, unless you maybe want to keep the gold team name but have a red outline? Not sure if that would look too clunky or clustered, though.

  15. Not defending the logo, but a 90s expansion team doesn’t have to scream classic hockey. That’s not the goal for the Sharks nor should it be.

  16. The truth is that they wanted to look like the Maple Leafs but had to add an extra color. I've always picked up a "western" vibe from the old Sabres stuff, too, but I wouldn't go any darker than dark royal.

  18. Probably. Would not be the first time for the playoffs right? I am hoping that it is a permanent profile picture change rather than just for playoffs. Like they should go back to the retro reds and whites as the permanent jerseys for 2020-21.

  19. You're both preaching to the choir in reference to the Sharks, but the original point was comparing the Sharks logo to "classic" hockey and four of the Original Six teams. Nine of the first twelve teams had simple crests depicting inanimate symbols and letters (the exceptions being the Blackhawks, Penguins, and Golden Seals), and that's not really the measuring stick the Sharks should be held to. All of the recent designs Bayne pointed out as "classic" with the exception of Tampa Bay and maybe Dallas are illustrations drawn in a modern style (I would consider most of them to be good logos, just not necessarily "classic hockey" logos). All anyone wants for a Sharks logo is simply a well-illustrated shark and the team is currently batting 0/3 in that category to varying degrees.

  21. You did good. I've made an actual jersey based on you association edition concept except with the purple and gold swapped everywhere as an alternate association jersey. You can also try and swap the purple and gold only for the jersey numbers as a 3rd alternate association jersey. I've always wanted to see these in the West / Baylor era light blue / royal blue combos, but with "Lakers" on front instead of "Los Angeles." So basically taking all three of these and swapping purple with light blue and gold with royal blue. If you have even more time, take all three of these and swap purple with royal blue and gold with light blue. Edit: just realized that you don't have to swap the light blue and royal blue for all three, only the Association jersey since the Icon and Statement jersey would take care of that.

  22. It doesn't have to, but it helps if it does. Ottawa did have a classic logo and everyone loves that. The Mighty Ducks logo is iconic. The leaping Panther (to me) is a classic 90's hockey design, so is the original Dallas Stars logo. Tampa Bay have landed on a pretty simple, clean identity and Minnesota has one of the best logos in the league and looks timeless. Columbus aren't that bad either. All of these teams hockey designs have emerged since the 90's.

  23. Well the actual 90s logo for the 90s expansion team had a far more restrained logo than that exaggerated cartoon shark, which came out in the 2010s.

  29. Thanks, chestnutz! Much appreciated. I have revised the DC football logo – and I think it's pretty good the way it is now. We now have a consistent yellow-gold outline, plus the stars are still recognizable being football laces. Images have been updated. Thanks a lot, miltonANDlumbergh! Happy to read that...

  38. I firmly believe that playing a single inning of baseball this season is irresponsible, dangerous, and probably unethical. I'm still inclined to believe that it's going to happen to some extent because neither the players nor owners want to leave any money on the table. Regardless of whether or not baseball is actually played, the fact that "runner on second" has been agreed upon by both sides is still concerning. I wouldn't put it past Manfred to try to implement it in a future season after now clearing this small hurdle. The smallest amount of traction for this rule change frightens me. Same goes for ads on uniforms and expanded playoffs.

  39. It reminds me of something your would expect to see in the promotional material used for kids' events involving the team mascot. It doesn't look like a primary NHL logo. It's a cartoon version of a team mascot that appeals to children. I've seen cartoonized illstrations of Fin, Vancouver's Orca, that look just like this style. The only thing missing is that the shark in this logo isn't wearing a sharks jersey.

I can't stop smiling about what happened to the Red Wings. Where does "holding a lottery broadcast that ends without announcing a winner" rank in the long-storied history of OITGDNHL? I say top 10 at least.

  43. Powerade's always been one of the least relevant beverages ever to exist. It was Coke's answer to Gatorade, and they've always branded it like bottom of the barrel schlock; like something you'd see in a movie where they couldn't get the rights to use Gatorade. So in some ways, I guess, it's an upgrade? Going to a minimalistic label and letting the unsual bottles be more of the brand is a bit clever.

  44. I wish I remembered where I read it, but the Rockets actually tried to backtrack on the logo change after the second title, but I think it was too late to reverse course because merchandise was already made and would have probably cost the team millions to reimburse the companies for unused merch.

  45. While a mismatched helmet color is not a good design choice, the throwback uniform is wholly superior to what they introduced today. Correcting that helmet color to match the royal blue jerseys would have been the right update.

  46. Apologies for the long hiatus, as I have been busy with school and working on other projects, but here are the Colorado Rockies! Logos A brighter, richer purple is embraced as the team's true color, and it now fills in the letters on the home uniform. Also, a big thanks to @SFGiants58 for creating a custom "Colorado" away wordmark for me that better matches the home wordmark. Uniforms A new custom number font is implemented to match the cap logo. The two-stripe design on the sleeves, pants, and socks of the away is reminiscent of Colorado's original road design, while also acting as a subtle tribute to the Colorado flag. Both alternates feature the interlocking "CR" logo with headspoon piping, as well as an added snow white pants option for when the purple jersey is worn at home. The Cooperstown Collection uniform is based on the old Denver Bears, and doubles as a Colorado flag tribute uniform. The Spring Training uniform showcases the mountain logo. And that's the Rockies, the Detroit Tigers will be up next!

  47. After talking with some friends and taking the comments to heart I tried to make a more acceptable Homage edition to Tom Brady. I kept the uni white and I made the Pats wordmark somewhat Celtics-ish. Navy and silver trimming, while keeping the red to minimal. I added a red clover to the waistband to make it more "Celtics", but I see that this isnt really a Celtics uniform, more a Pats uniform in NBA. I considered going back to the 17 championship tag but felt that as this is for Tom Brady and the New England Patriots that the 6 championship tag fits more. Anyway it was a fun exercise and after posting this one I am back to my usual concepts for a while. All comments and criticisms are greatly appreciated! And most importantly -> stay safe and wash your hands! Boston Celtics Homage Edition Uniform Concept V2

  48. First things first, instead of updating the template as I usually do, I have made a new one. The template, as always, is taking inspiration from Hoopladawg. I will never ever be able to recreate his insanely detailed template or possess his ingenuity or creativity. If you havent checked out his concepts then exit mine concepts immediately and look(!) They are simply gorgeous. If you have looked at his and are back then lets get going. If you've been following my posts, you are well aware that I have issues with the current colour saturation of the NBA and that I have some issues with some team names. Recently I renamed the Washington Wizards into Washington Senators as I felt it was more appropriate. I have once again reached a team with a team name that should change. It gnawed at me untill I had no choice but to change it. I will keep my reasoning very brief as I border to being very pretentious sometimes, for which I am sorry(!) The Memphis Grizzlies started out in Vancouver and the team name Grizzlies was spot on - the uniforms were amazing, however the team was not. Eventually the team was moved but the Grizzlies name remained - a mistake if you ask me. It is not my intention to offend any Memphis Grizzlies fans. There are some teams names which doesnt make sense but the name has become an institution, like the Lakers, Jazz. Some are descriptive of heritage, like the Celtics or Knicks. The team name doesnt have to fit at all to be honest, though there are some which really makes me scratch my head. Oklahoma City Thunder did not keep the Supersonics name, which was a good thing! Memphis Grizzlies are by definition one of the youngest franschises in the NBA, even if you include the time in Vancouver - no championship; not the most established team by any means, and this makes them very much "renamable" to me. It very much annoys me that there are no grizzly bears in Memphis; I've been googling for quite a while and I can confirm that there is one kind of bear in Memphis, the "ursus americanus", otherwise known as black bear. I did consider renaming the Grizzlies into Black Bears but it just didnt have the pop I wished for. I ended up considering Memphis Blues, which is an awesome name, as the city is the home of blues music but St Louis Blues in the NHL put a quick stop to that. Memphis is also known for being the birthplace of rock n roll and there are some very famous individuals with relations to the city. I began researching the history of Memphis and googled just about everything then I came across this article by ESPN. The billboard for Memphis made it obvious to me that Kings would be the perfect team name for this franchise. Elvis Presley, BB King and MLK, all are kings - it made so much sense and it also sounds great. (This does not mean I wont make Sacramento Kings or Memphis Grizzlies concepts - I will rename Sacramento too, then one day I will go with the original names.) The concept is at it's core very basic. I kept Memphis Midnight and Beale Street Blue but I removed Grizzlies Gold from association, icon and statement. I did some slight editing on the side piping and also took the liberty of trying to make a logo for the newly named Memphis Kings - a crown with the letter M(I do not possess the capabilities to make a decent logo nor to fit it into the basketball roundel so some imagining is required). The old workmark is updated. The association and icon are basically just recoloured editions. The side piping continues into the right shoulder trim to add some slight asymmetry. For the statement edition I took inspiration from Hoopladawgs "memphis music" concept, with some slight tweaks. The sign is iconic and one could argue it would be better fitted for a city edition - I feel that it works as a statement edition as it's an eye opener; no one can mistake it for any other teams statement with it's bright, neon-ish wordmark and white with coloured contrast numerals, or so I would like to think(!) As mentioned earlier, I would've liked the logo to be a roundel, so imagine the crown logos on the short sides as roundel. I was going to add a MLK uniform and a city uniform based on Elvis Presley but I havent have time to complete these concepts yet. Anyways, hope you guys like them. All comments and criticisms are greatly appreciated! Memphis Kings Association Edition Uniform Concept Memphis Kings Icon Edition Uniform Concept Memphis Kings Statement Edition Uniform Concept
