  2. Why anyone would want MORE matches involving this year’s Arsenal is beyond me.

  3. Your argument is boiling down to club popularity is more important than competition. That's not a solid foundation for a Super League to stand on. There was a fear these big clubs wouldn't field their best in the domestic leagues, and therefore hurt that product. The same could have been said about a Super League. If a club is out of it, where is the incentive to field their best side when the pay day is already a given? That's why the current system works. There's an incentive to do well domestically so you qualify for Europe and there's an incentive to do well in Europe so you advance and make more money.

  4. Even by the standards of this board, judging the quality of a match by who sells more shirts is a wild take. That's a problem for Adidas to sort out, not the fans. There is a reason we play the games on the grass and not on paper. Kind of the whole point of sports.

  5. When you look at it side by side-- what an absolutely massive improvement, especially this combo. The removal of the shoulder yoke allows the shoulder striping detail to really nicely complement the striping on the helmet and pants, instead of compete for attention. Removing the white detail from the top of the pants stripe keeps things consistent with the helmet in a nice way-- and I don't think too many people have mentioned how awkward and unnecessary the tapered point at the bottom of the old pants stripe was -- it never looked good how it wrapped around the knee, and now the new straight up-and-down pants stripe again streamlines everything. Plus, the dropshadow on the old numbers was such a legacy from like 2004-- Falcons uniforms that debuted around that time also had it. Good riddance. This redesign is what the Jaguars COULD have been if they'd made the right decisions. If the Jaguars had used a vertical teal stripe on white and black pants + a more noticeable teal stripe on the white and black uniforms, it would totally balance the large amounts of black and white. Instead, they went with the barely noticeable teal diagonal slices of color at the very bottom of the pants + edge of the sleeves. Bengals show you how a very similar minimalist design is used, with the proper execution.

  6. Please stop saying crap like this. It's embarrassing. No one has "proved your point." Because you're wrong. Therefore your point can't be proved. Do you understand yet?

  7. Except this isn't an entirely separate competition, it was meant to be a Champions League replacement. So really it'd be more like the Lakers, Celtics, Knicks, Bulls, Spurs, and Warriors creating their own Super Playoffs where they have guaranteed spots every year, justifying it with the fact that they're historically good/popular and saying it's still a fair system because they're graciously allowing 1 Eastern and Western team per year that aren't already in to join for that season (they'd have to qualify through performance every year, though, since they're not part of the cool kids club).

  8. No one cared about the Patriots for the first 30 years of their existence and now they're a marquee NFL franchise. The Warriors were nothing between the 70s and 2015. There are many examples like this. You can't freeze "top teams" in amber because we're all victims of the moment. Yes, the Yankees and Lakers and Cowboys and Barca and Real Madrid are a cut above...but that's really about it.

  9. What's scary here is there are still people out there who honestly believe that this was some kind of one-off experiment. C'mon, do they not understand the door has been opened? My local sports radio talked about this and said "yeah they were goofy, but at least we won't see them again." Uh... No. It's just getting started.

  17. They obviously are an attempt at tiger stripes, just poorly done. This is a real tiger, it doesn't get all swirly like that and it it appears they tried to make them vertical, like a real tiger. But it doesnt work well. The new pant stripes mirror a real tiger much better.

  19. Granted the Browns and the Bengals are usually the Browns and the Bengals, but I'd hardly describe Baltimore as a band of slapdicks during his tenure and Marvin Lewis at least had the Bengals competent usually. Certainly he's done this with tougher competition than Belichick has had to deal with.

  22. Maybe I'm missing something (entirely possible), but is there an issue with the Bengals in general having multiple pairs of white pants? I don't see any harm in having one pair designed to be worn with the white jerseys, then another one that looks better with the orange and black jerseys. That appears to be exactly what they attempted to do, except they missed the mark on one pair of pants. I wouldn't call the pants with orange stripes an overreach so much as "overthought." Adapting the original tiger striped panel on the pants should've been an easy solution. Instead, it reads like the made a change for change's sake.

  24. This is a thread for logos that, on paper, sound like they would look bad, but still feel right in practice. The logos with complex or confusing elements, odd fonts, weird colors, or too many individual parts of the logo that still just work. Here are a few examples. Anyone else have any logos like these?

  25. There are already a solid 3 or 4 active Reverse Retro threads right now, but I figured I'd jump back into jersey design with a new series. For this one, I'm going through defunct NHL teams in no particular order and giving them each their own Reverse Retro jersey. To start, here's my design for the Atlanta Thrashers, based on their inaugural road jerseys. The Thrashers' inaugural jerseys are some of my favorite NHL jerseys ever, since I love their arrow patterns and jagged striping. This design keeps that design alive, down to the arrow pattern on the collar. Any thoughts? I'll probably be posting a new jersey each day, so stay tuned.

  27. If anybody thinks Washington, regardless of what name they choose, would give two seconds thought to the idea of putting a spear on the helmet, they're out of their minds.

  28. Doesn’t change the fact that the logo and name can very easily be a reference to native Americans without the explicit distinction showing a Greek soldier, or something Washington should stay as far from the warrior name and that spear logo.

  30. Arsenal is such a mess, they shouldn't be near any European tournament. To use the coefficient to determine the final 2 entries makes no sense and is unfair to all the teams who performed better that season. Imagine in MLB if the Yankees had a poor season but still went to the playoffs because of their past history. There would be a major uproar across the nation.

  32. Unless they're wearing a yellow jersey, the Rams should always wear yellow pants.

  33. That would be a tough sell. It wouldn’t work as a primary logo either. A Roman or Greek warrior? I’m all for it, but the team would have to explicitly say and show that to be the case.

  34. This is probably an unpopular opinion because it seems like most people want Washington to change up everything related to their team name and logo but I think they should bring back this logo (minus the feather) and uniform and change the name to Warriors.

  37. Probably. But that would defeat the whole purpose, if you can’t instantly tell what helmet the player is wearing.

  41. I’m actually all for this if the current helmet goes untouched. Red shell and facemask with an all white logo strays too far from their history. But if you take their current classic helmet, and pair it with these uniforms, I’d be all for it. Interested if it would be a custom block too. Would prefer that over some modern Michigan St esq look.

  42. Absolutely. I think it’s been under appreciated, the fact that they didn’t touch the helmet. Didn’t change the finish or the face mask or anything. Kinda crazy.

  43. I like the uniforms, but you lost me at the blue maple leaf. Red, gold, and green maple leaves are all naturally occurring, but blue maple leaves have about as much appeal as purple dinosaurs. I don't believe you could peddle an idea as absurd as blue maple leafs in a traditional Canadian hockey market.

  46. This thread is going to end up being for surprise pants unveilings, people freaking out if a jersey tears, and me moaning about how dumb the dumb-ass dummy players look when they wear oversized-loose t-shirts under their skin-tight jerseys like a bunch of dumb-ass clowns.
