  1. I cannot stress this enough. Anything Rock & Roll themed would be so corny and stupid.

The current remaining teams, sorted by most recent to win an NBA Championship: Dallas Mavericks: 2011 Philadelphia 76ers: 1983 (last app. 2001) Milwaukee Bucks: 1971 (last app. 1974) Atlanta Hawks: 1958 (last app. 1961) -- none in Atlanta Brooklyn Nets: never (last app. 2003) -- none in Brooklyn Utah Jazz: never (last app. 1998) Phoenix Suns: never (last app. 1993) Denver Nuggets: no appearances Los Angeles Clippers: no appearances Literally only one team remaining has won a championship in the last 37 seasons. Pretty remarkable.

  6. If my city flag looked that good, I'd insist it be on everything too. And if you're worried that the flag is overdone, they get massive points for using the Municipal Device. https://www.wbez.org/stories/chicagos-municipal-device-the-citys-symbol-lurking-in-plain-sight/fd9cf47b-904e-4654-ad06-ff7fc8727758

  10. I think one of the things I like best about this logo is that they didn't feel the need to match the angle of the helmet antlers to the antlers on the logo. Not everything can or should be matchy-matchy. The Rams can learn something from the Elks.

  13. I think you really have to put into context just how different San Jose was back then compared to now. It’s a tech powerhouse now, but when the Sharks came in it was still sort of a bedroom community for those who couldn’t afford to/didn’t want to live that close San Francisco. And even today, access to the South Bay pales in comparison to the rest of the region. Maybe if those BART plans in the early 90s to move the lines further south had come to fruition (there was no realistic chance of this happening, for MANY reasons. Biggest being that South Bay residents simply didn’t want it.) things would’ve been different. But San Jose wasn’t really the draw in the early 90s that it is today.

  14. I'm good with the Spiders. I'm also not against the Blues and the Americans. It would be kinda neat to have the Nationals in the National League and the Americans in the American League.

  18. Curious about this, I began noodling around the USPTO trademark database to see what The Spring League's been up to. Between Jan. 14 and Jan. 21 it filed applications for trademarks for several pre-existing USFL brands (Oakland, Michigan, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Denver, Memphis, L.A., Chicago, Houston, Tampa Bay, New Jersey, Pittsburgh, New Orleans) and two that weren't part of the original league: the St. Louis Invaders and Dallas Stallions. It filed two more applications for old USFL brands — Oklahoma Outlaws and Arizona Wranglers -- on March 3. In each case, it's identified as "applicant" rather than "registrant." I'm not a trademark lawyer by any means, but I'd guess this means they don't yet own the rights to the names -- they're merely applying for the trademarks at this point. (By contrast, a separate filing from 2015 indicates they are the registered trademark owner of United States Football League LLC, and not just an applicant. ) Regardless, this at least gives us a sense of what markets they could be targeting, particularly with the inclusion of Dallas and St. Louis. It also might give us a sense of where they aren't looking. For example, while they filed applications for the Stars in both Philadelphia and Baltimore, they only filed applications for the Breakers in New Orleans — and not Portland or Boston. The also have not filed trademark applications for the Washington Federals, Orlando Renegades, San Antonio Gunslingers or Jacksonville Bulls.

  19. I’m good with Spiders, Guardians, Municipals/Munis, Forests, Dobys, etc. Just don’t be the Rockers. For the love of all that is holy, don’t do it. I’m still kind of rooting for Dan Gilbert to buy the team and name them the Cleveland (Baseball) Cavaliers.

  20. The AAF originally pitched their idea to Vince McMahon as the second version of the XFL. Vince said "screw these guys I'll do it myself," leaving the AAF people to create a new name for their league. Either way it wouldn't have helped. Even assuming the XFL and AAF people combined their capital the league would have been killed by COVID.

  21. I think the Chicago flag just lends itself to uniform design, there’s lots to work with in a variety of contexts. Whereas the Maryland flag is cool and distinctive but gets unwieldy fast if you use it too closely for design inspo, as some Terps uniforms have unfortunately showed us.

  22. Props to the team for not giving up in the second half, but they clearly were cooked after AD went down in game 4. And, really, it just felt like a matter of time for that to happen too. LeBron and AD need a full season to rest, they need to figure out what they're doing with Schroeder, and they need to integarate AD2 for real. The 2020 Lakers were an amazing team and story. Sucks to see them go out like this, but sometimes that's what happens.

  27. Hi all (first thread!) Just wanted to dump a few of the things I've been working on for a while now. I had an idea some time ago to create a whole suite of uniformly designed broadcast graphics -- bugs, interstitials, stat graphics, the whole lot. Here's a few things I've built out: Football This is an older version of the suite, made around last year. It was made in Illustrator and After Effects, and it was definitely a good way for me to figure out a good workflow between the two programs and what would work best on screen and in play. Elements like the down indicator and the clock change color depending on which team has posession. Baseball version without standings version with standings This one is one of the more interesting sports to make graphics for because it's very stat-heavy and because of the bases indicator. This one also changes color; the background of the bottom box and the bases indicator match the color of the batting team and the lit bases match the secondary color of that team (ignore that there's a Royals batter onscreen, I just wanted to see what it would look like in red :P) That's all I have for now, let me know what you think!

  28. Well I mean, come on. There's nothing to be read in social media profile pictures and social media graphics unless the teams want us to. Your profile pic here, which I assume is the default picture for people without a picture uploaded, is a black and white version of the CCSLC logo. Does that mean the CCSLC is going to be changing colours?

  29. You know what, you cracked the case. The Stars are going to be dropping green, a colour they have worn for their entire existence even going back to Minnesota, and changing to black and white next season because they are using a black and white logo for social media profile pics. They are going to introduce it through profile pictures by using a black and white logo, which most likely is an already existing logo in their style guide, and slowly but surely work up to a full rebrand for next season. The Coyotes Panthers and Leafs are also going to switch to rainbow colours too, based on their profile pictures, so be prepared for that also.

  30. "But...why?" comes to mind here. These are so incredibly devoid of life. I can't even figure out who those are for. They're the clear definition of nonoffensive. There's a lack of color, creativity...I just don't understand why these exist. I can't imagine who would buy these in a merch sense (I may not have liked the Sox uniform but you knew they'd have a fan base). Why bother if you're going to produce something so...blah. They just feel lazy. Almost like Tom forgot to design them until midnight before the project was due, or had his mom do it for him. I can't "hate" them...because there's hardly any emotional response that could be illicted from any of this.

  32. If it weren't for live sports I wouldn't have cable. So I'm hosed. I remember as a kid watching SportsCenter until it would repeat to watch highlights. The internet has completely changed that though. SportsCenter probably has a purpose for somebody, but for me I just look at highlights whenever I want instead of waiting for SC to cycle back through if I missed something. Even the pregame shows do nothing for me at this point. There's better pregame analysis written somewhere that I can easily read now. Part of this is the internet and part of it is probably just my personal tastes changing.

  35. Do Chicagoans love their flag that much? Cause I swear that the Chicago flag is incorporated into as many Chicago uniforms as possible. I’m from Maryland, I get it, when it’s determined by the powers that be that you have a “cool” flag, it gets slapped onto everything, but even the O’s and Ravens keep the MD flag relegated to patches!

  37. Worst part, came out very recently that the Giants apparently had no interest in moving to St. Petersburg, or the South Bay for that matter. Which means all of the A's efforts initially to help them stay in the Bay Area by offering to forego the rights on Santa Clara County... were really even more wasted than we already knew. https://newballpark.org/2021/06/02/ghost-of-blue-ribbon-panel-speaks-out-in-favor-of-the-coliseum/ I mean again, I'm in awe of how much the Giants then owners played everyone. But again, the A's allowed themselves to be played, and then as you say didn't move to rectify it when it became clear the Giants were full of :censored: about moving to the South Bay.

  38. This is pretty much it. Sucks for the A’s, but they basically made their own bed on this one. They had a full decade to submit the paperwork returning the rights to them, and just never did

  39. Stylistically, I really like the Elks logo and I LOVE the name. It was a no-brainer and I’m glad they didn’t screw that up. I do take issue with the antler, however. They look more like a reindeer’s antler than an elk’s antler. Elk have a distinctive “whale tail” at the top like this: I took the liberty making a quick and dirty edit to the logo, which makes the antler more elk-like:

  40. Also assuming they're able to keep Schroeder, THT, Caruso and Drummond. Those are their options, since they don't have any cap room at all. I also feel like every Denver/Portland game was going against the Lakers/Suns. Portland peaked in 2019. I'm not saying it's time to blow it up, but it might be time to blow it up.

  42. Yes, but i don't think these would fit with their current uniforms. too much inconsistency in 1 stripe, 2 stripes, 3 stripes. They'd turn into a Dr Seuss team. 1 stripe, 2 stripes, white stripes, blue stripes.

  44. I feel like the Pittsburgh Pirates need to go back to a version of the 70's look again full time. Now would be the perfect time to tap into the craziness that is all around sports uniforms these days. If there's one team that is allowed to be obnoxious with it's uniform, it's the Pirates.

  45. Philadelphia Eagles - the "Iggles" shine in Kelly green From a purely aesthetic standpoint, one of the biggest jersey crimes currently in the NFL is seeing the Eagles in midnight green instead of a more vibrant Kelly green hue over the last 25 years. I know Eagles fans would probably argue the team has seen some of their best success in the darker shade of green, including the Super Bowl win a few years ago. I'm personally biased as green is my favorite color, but I don't think the team has looked better than they did in the mid to late 60's. The green I used is a little lighter than what they actually wore just because I wanted it to pop a little more. I really dug the the twin stripes at the shoulders and sleeves from that era. Looking at action shots I always thought the sleeve stripes were sort of curved, but apparently they were supposed to be straight. In the end I decided to leave them angled to give it a more unique look. The helmet features the signature eagle wings with the addition of a white outline, which didn't come along until the 70's. Switched up the pants from plain white to gray to match the primary color of the wings. And there you have it: Fly Eagles Fly! Comments and critiques always welcome. Next up - the Miami Dolphins jerseys take on more of a two-tone look. References / Inspiration

  46. 32s? Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue and doesn't mean anything to anyone. Nobody cares about the Boston football Braves, and their choice of ripping off the baseball Braves with a word people probably shouldn't say is why we're in this mess (that and the cops murdered a black guy). It's gonna be Red something.

  50. If my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle. It wouldn't be cramped if they hadn't built it where they built it, but the waterfront was the point. It's great. I just wish the team could give up the ghost on trying to sell the naming rights and call it Willie Mays Field. Candlestick was bad for the Giants but a lot better for the 49ers than Lego Stadium has been. They really should have built a new stadium on that parcel and barnstormed around the Bay for a few years till it was ready (Stanford, Berkeley, Oakland, aforementioned Willie Mays Field).
