  1. Getting really tired of gimmicky design elements that do nothing to improve the quality of uniforms. Things like... - Hollowed out numbers Looks tacky. Like something you'd find on a cheap fashion jersey. - Stealth Striping Why would you go out of your way to make one of the most important aspects of a uniform invisible on the ice. Asinine. - Hanger effects Why is so much time and energy dedicated to something you'll never see on the ice. -Metallic Helmets Not a single instance of them has looked passable let alone good. This trend needs to die yesterday. -Oversized Sleeve Numbers Maybe you could justify them for Stadium Series uniforms but they should not be on uniforms in regular rotation. Looking at you Philly. -Sublimated Sleeve Patterns They contribute nothing to the quality of the design. Both Calgary and Vancouver's alternates would look cleaner without them. -Reversible Jerseys Easily the stupidest gimmick yet. If there was ever a uniform to sum up everything wrong with NHL jersey design today, it's Toronto's alt.
  2. I wish the Canucks would leave their identity alone. Nothing they've done since 2020 has been an improvement.
  3. They also won a championship in those colours... not that I'm advocating they stick around. If I had my way, their original jerseys would return unchanged.
  4. You've personally talked to all these fans and got their two cents on the issue? Or are you just pulling it out of thin air to support your narrative? If Dallas Stars fans don't care about their Northstars roots, why do articles from fans like this exist? I guarantee more Stars fans care about their Northstars history than anything to do with the Dallas Texans. https://www.sbnation.com/2017/3/29/15106256/minnesota-wild-north-stars-jerseys-dallas-stars-nhl-mad-online-cut-it-out-dave-coulier Their recent reverse retro was based off a uniform worn by both the Northstars and Stars. You realize that during the design process for a Winter Classic, the two uniforms are not created independently of each other... Nashville didn't have a rich history they could throwback to so they did a homage to an old Nashville team. Dallas followed suit. Their decision to not play up their actual history had nothing to do with wanting to disassociate from it. If they wanted to make a clean break from their past, there wouldn't be retired numbers from Northstar's players in the rafters and they would have ditched Green for a scheme based of the Texas flag. Their current uniforms have Northstars imagery in them. The Italicized Star from the classic N-Star logo has been on the front of every single Dallas Stars uniform since their inception. So has their main colour green. Add some yellow trim to the current set and it's practically a direct throwback to what the Northstars were wearing in 1991. In darkened Northstars Colours. Were the Oilers making a clean break from their past when they went from Royal, Orange and White to Midnight Blue, White and Copper? No. Because they're the same team. Acting like they aren't is revisionist history. No matter how much you wish the team didn't move.
  5. You know this for a fact? I've seen plenty of fans at Dallas Stars games wearing North Stars jerseys over the years. The Wild having a Green, Yellow and White alternate doesn't prohibit the Stars from using a Green, Yellow, Black and White one. It's not like it's an overused colour combination. That questionable decision doesn't erase their history. And those Winter Classic Jerseys were horrible. The only interesting thing about them was the type of felt material they used...
  6. Never said they did. But if the team had stayed in Minnesota, they would have likely darkened their palette like just about every other team in the mid 90's... The additions of Black and Metallic Gold happened gradually and well before the team moved. Therefore, it would be disingenuous to call it a completely separate colour scheme.
  7. I won't stop cheering for them but if hell freezes over and they actually win a championship, it will be less special for me if it's not in Blue White and Green. Calling it now, the Messier era Orca returns in 2034 as an alternate... Two years later the #freewilly movement is started and the original Orca is regarded as the teams most iconic look.
  8. It's going to be the heaviest jersey ever made
  9. I don't know what was going on with my thought process either. It's almost like I read the official press release from the team... https://www.nhl.com/stars/news/dallas-stars-unveil-blackout-alternate-jersey-319531914
  10. Well, besides the fact it looks like a "Black Ice" fashion jersey with a gaudy colour taken from the team's Mascot, it just isn't a good fit for this kind of franchise. No matter how much people wish the team never moved from Minnesota to Dallas (I'm one of those people for the record), the Stars are still essentially a second-six franchise with a rich history in Green, Black and Gold. A history that includes a Stanley Cup Championship. It is absolutely ridiculous that all of this history is swept under the rug in favor of an up-to-the-minute, trendy design with no historical precedent in the team's 57 years. Am I saying that one of the designs below needs to come back stripe for stripe? No. But you could certainly look to any of these jerseys for inspiration and come up with something infinitely better than the Skyline Green sweater. And speaking of the Skyline... Their original black jersey did a far better job of representing how the Dallas skyline looks at night... They can refer to that gaudy neon colour as "Skyline Green" all they want, I'm not buying it.
  11. If the Skate is going to be worn in the playoffs, it likely means a switch to it full-time is on the horizon . They finally got their uniforms right when they removed the arched wordmark and now they want to ditch, or at least minimize, one of the league's best colour schemes for something that looked dated in 1994... This team is never going to have a proper identity.
  12. Although I wholeheartedly disagree with your opinion, I definitely admire your courage to post it.
  13. Replacing the current logo with the Fin would be throwing out the baby with the bathwater. I agree the logo is in dire need of an update but the fin is not strong enough to be their primary logo. It's the perfect shoulder patch. What they should do is update their original logo... Make the Shark more realistic, give it the teal highlights of the current logo and fix the hockey stick. It's hilarious that both versions of that logo got the stick so wrong.
  14. The striping is what will make or break this design... Hopefully it has more in common with their 2007-2017 alternate than their "stealth jersey." That re-coloured Northern California shoulder patch looks great. Hopefully it's on both shoulders.
  15. Looks like something you'd find on a happy meal toy.
  16. Those Stars jerseys were just abysmal. Thin piping where stripes should be and little consistency between the home and road. Green was the most prominent colour on the white jersey while being completely absent on the black version. Double outlined numbers on one, triple outlines on the other. In recent years some interesting prototypes have emerged on Ebay... You've got the home version with a proper logo on the front (big improvement)... ...and an earlier version of the alternate, that eventually became the road, with single outlined numbers
  17. It was certainly looking dated even before Reebok ruined their jerseys... Lightening the green to what they have now was definitely the right move. Maybe they could make an alternate based off the cup jerseys but with the new shade of green and with the gold retained. I love the Stars current uniforms in a vacuum but it's disheartening how far removed they are from the look associated with the franchise's pinnacle. Having an alternate with some gold would go a long way to fix that and bridge the gap between the two era's... Whatever they decide to do, those Skyline Green monstrosities have to go. They looked dated the second they were released and are not fit for a pro team IMO.
  18. I'm surprised no one is complaining about the Adidas triple stripes down the sleeves.
  19. I don't know if I'd quite call it a modern classic (the way the logo lines up with the star template is kind of awkward) but it is perplexing how the team completely ignores the design that coincided with their peak. It would certainly make a better alternate than what they use now.
  20. These are great but "classic" seems like a bit of a stretch. Even with 90's nostalgia at its peak.
  21. Is any All Star Game jersey really revered as a classic? Minnesota's get a lot of praise but I don't think anyone would call either of them a classic design. Maybe the Orange and Black ones from the early 90's?
  22. The logo or the jersey? It's because the Reebok Edge jerseys were originally designed to be tucked in. Fortunately, many owners rebelled including Peter Karmanos who insisted the Hurricanes retain their warning flag striping.
  23. I think someone from 2004 would have more design sense. Look at the All Star jerseys from that year.
  24. They should have had their privileges permanently revoked after that reversible alternate. If there was ever a jersey to sum up everything wrong with hockey design in the 2020's, it's that. Miraculously, these All Star jerseys are even worse.
