  1. Umm, not sure you get the idea behind the ads on jerseys....

The advertiser wants people to have exposure to their product. That is mainly done through TV viewership, and a little bit through in arena attendance.

None of that exposure is from practice jerseys. Why would they pay money for an ad placement that only a few thousand people would see...

First of all, when you turn on a hockey game one of the first things they will show is clips from warm ups to talk about and hype up the game, along with game highlights. Then there is the pre-game interviews during warm-ups, advertisers would love front and center exposure like that (the only issue is that a lot of people will change the channel when they see Pierre interview someone, but thats just Pierre). Also during the pre-game show they show live clips of warm ups for a good chunk of the show.

But at present, NHL teams don't warm up in practice jerseys. Morning skates and off-day practices are the only times they wear practice jerseys. That said, I could tolerate ad-riddled practice jerseys in the warm-ups as long as they don't touch the game uniforms.

  2. ^lol wut

Yeah the purple thing is a bit weird to me. Is it an official team colour or not? Apparently it is, but then why is it not in any of the uniforms or logos?

It is. Their alternate jersey is their former home jersey -- purple shoulders and arm stripes.

  3. Is this close to the Miami wordmark?

looks good, but it'd look better IMO with the Marlin coming off of the I as well.

No that's overkill and even the designers of this garbage would know that. You don't need more than the one.

    More than one what?

    Marlin.

  4. The Kings are on the ice for the first time in their new away unis. They look pretty sharp against the Coyotes.

And because they're also playing a split-squad game at home, we get confirmation that the home uniforms are unchanged. (Not sure if we knew that 100%.) It's a bit odd to see different hem stripes on this set, but I still like it.

Note the double white stripe on the side of the pants and the crown logo above the right knee. Otherwise, I believe everything else carries over.

  5. Assuming Kolvy goes to the Kings, I absolutely love the move. I think his issues in Atlanta were more based on the Thrashers having no chance to compete for the foreseeable future, and the main lack that the Kings really had was a dedicated scorer. They have good all-around forwards in Brown, Kopitar, Frolov, and I'll even say Simmonds. They have young, talented defenders in Doughty and Johnson. They have a great young goalie in Quick, with Bernier waiting in the wings. Heck, they also have veteran leadership in Smyth and Scuderi. So, add Kovalchuk to the mix, and you have one scary team on your hands.

Absolutely. If DL can keep the cap hit down (and $5.33M is waaaaay down, IMO), it'll be a great deal.

It's worth noting that Fro won't be back this year. At least his agent says it's 99% certain he'll be moving on.

  6. Still wouldn't touch Kovalchuk with a 90 foot stick.

Even if he would "Help" my offensively starved Flames.

Instead, you'd rather have Tanguay and Jokinen. 'Cause, you know, it worked so well the first time. :P

And I wouldn't put too much stock in the 15-yr $80M contract. That's only a $5.33M cap hit. Having said that, if it's true, holy steal, Batman!

  7. Rumblings that the Kovalchuk Missile Crisis may finally be nearing an end. While I've heard that about four or five times already, this one is picking up steam.

LA Kings Insider Rich Hammond says it's starting to feel like Kovy and the Kings could settle a deal at any time. He adds people are getting more cryptic with their denials.

Elsewhere, Nick Kyrpeos tweets that a source tells him a deal between the Kings and Kovy is close, but not done. And Helene Elliot says Kings and Kovy are close, but a few kinks to work out.

As a Kings fan, I'll be happy if it's a good deal. But I'm sure everyone else will just be glad to not hear about it anymore.

  8. So yeah, the Chelsea home shirts were revealed long ago. But I find the pics they have on kitbag.com a bit strange...

Why so form-fitting? Does Drogba fancy himself a bodybuilder? Is Terry about to beat the stuffing out of the British tabloids? Is Lampard upset with the "Fat Frank" jokes that will surely follow since his shirt is a more relaxed fit?

  9. Way to copy the St.Louis Blues...

    ...Who copied the Minnesota Wild.

    -Dan

    Who copied the Pittsburgh Penguins.

    who copied the Chicago Blackhawks.

Hey, Boston, Long Island, and Edmonton have circular logos too! What gives?

Ah, but those teams do not have team logos surrounded by the team's name inside a spheroid. That's the difference, my good man.

  10. That is utterly ridiculous. I can't even form the words to describe how ridiculous that really is.

"You just won the title, but you didn't have 40 scheduled games and win them all running away, so you're fired." Really, why wait for the end of the season? Fire the coach and replace all the players once they lose one game, right?

Not as impossible as it seems - Arsenal ran unbeaten a few years ago in the EPL. It can be done, and I wouldn't be happy as the AD of UNC unless the Tar Heels were doing it consistently in all sports. Remember, we're looking for a commitment to excellence - and 39-1 is not an excellent team, as they failed.

It's worth pointing out that Arsenal didn't win all 38 games that season. In fact, they drew 12 times -- nearly every third game. They left 24 points on the pitch out of a total of 114. In other words, the Gunners were able to collect only 79% of the available points during that campaign. Seems to me even Arsenal failed.

Whenever I look at this crown, I can't help but think that it has a pair of wimpy looking eyes... for some reason.

I had never noticed that before, but now I just see the creepy Geico money wearing a crown.

He's not much for conversation, but if he were, it'd be a conversation about money.

  12. The refs stole a win for the Habs today against LA. If you don't see it that way, you're either:

    a. visually impaired

    b. a Canadiens fan

    c. both

Worst exhibition of officiating I've seen in a while. Yes, the Kings blew it, but the officials took the two points away from them. (BTW, that was a very dirty hit from Gauthier. I'm not disputing that. Everything else, though... oh yeah.)

  13. Dallas B Should have been green, but on it's own I like the design

Vancouver C+ It's pretty much the same as the normal jerseys with bad logo that has been made worse in the redesign

Tid bit hypocritical now aren't we?

Tad bit redundant now, aren't we? :P

FWIW, I think his beef is with the Canucks' using an updated old logo while Dallas didn't bother. You can't get a bad mark if you don't try, it seems.
