And by that time the Pittsburgh Pirates will have been mathematically and unilaterally eliminated from playoff contention...
Nah, knowing the pace of these things the Pirates will be eliminated far before then.

Has there ever been a criminal who held a press conference to declare his guilt?
I'm not saying he's guilty, but this doesn't prove anything.
Here’s the best explanation I’ve seen:

Ohtani statement was exactly what I’ve been saying. Ippei hacked his bank account and lied to Shohei’s reps while in Korea, Shohei didn’t personally pay off anyone and doesn’t gamble. Let’s move on.

Looks like the pendulum is starting to swing back from Pete Rose 2.0 to con artist.
Also, the whole ShOhEi ChAnGeD hIs StOrY narrative needs to die. Ippei was the sole source of information and the story only changed after Ohtani’s lawyers debunked the first version.- 1

Are we really in a world where the WAC is going to outlive the Pac 12?

So, Ohtani apparently didn’t even realize that Ippei had a gambling problem until the clubhouse announcement in Seoul and Ohtani wouldn’t have had any idea what he was doing if he gambled on other sports anyway.
-
Considering that Ohtani's team has contacted law enforcement and is calling for a full probe into the theft, unless they're setting themselves up for what may in fact be the most significant self own in the history of professional sports it would appear that the theft angle would be likely what transpired in the same vein as the take old as time of associate of millionaire athlete getting greedy. The shifting stories probably had a lot to do with them being overseas and not being in the most convenient situation to kick the guy to the curb when he still has tickets reserved on the team charter.
Of course, the hot takes about Ohtani not talking to anyone are hilarious considering that he's probably taking legal advice on that front.

Theoretically all Ryan Smith has to do is make a higher bid and pledge to build a community park there and off the 'Yotes go to SLC.

I know that the Padres have a tenuous TV rights situation right now but you'd think they'd actually afford to supply their players with gloves that don't explode on *checks schedule* OPENING DAY.

That Jaguar logo change still baffles me as being such an unnecessary downgrade. The new one is just an overly beveled wordmark away from being a typical early 2010s Phoenix Design Works low major D-I college look.

I didn't even think Phoenix could have a light rail without someone shooting it and yelling "GET OFF MY PROPERTY"
I mean, the one time I was on the Phoenix light rail the guy next to me had an ankle monitor so you're not that far off.

And I’m still going to defend playing that game. The players are paid millions, the fans willingly forked over their money to freeze their asses off and because they didn’t protect themselves, they’re paying the price.
Why should I feel bad for anyone here?
They signed up to freeze their asses off in the figurative sense. I don't think they signed up to freeze their asses off in the literal, "nurse, please pass me the scalpel" sense.
But, if we're talking about all the dopes who thought that they only layer they needed was body paint, they fully deserve what's coming to them.

In more Dodger news, they updated the batting helmet logo.

Thanks for the laugh. "Selling out all season long in SLC"? You're telling me that a small-ass place like SLC is going to sell out 81 games a year? Games where they'll sell that low-alcohol beer? Getting to games isn't exactly convenient in a place as sparse and sprawling as the SLC area, and... 81 games.
It's a complete joke.It will never happen. If you'll excuse me, I'm gong to half for a few minutes.

I’m just amazed that the ballpark with the best view of the New York skyline will be 2,500 miles from New York.

The Rockies black vests never worked when they dropped the purple sleeves. The obnoxious piping made them look like TATC uniforms.

There is 0.0% chance of a permanent MLB team in SLC. I'll change my user name to "I__am_a_flaming_Dbag" for a year (like we made that one guy do) if it happens.
Let's take it to the next level: "I_am_a_flaming_communist_dbag_whore". We can pressure the 30ish members of the XII to get that cleared.

Is San Pedro not a natural harbour?
(Side note: the pronunciation "San Pidro" annoys me.)
Nope. In fact, the main port until they dredged the now Port of LA and coverted Rattlesnake Island to Terminal Island was Redondo Beach.

I've always been more forgiving of this logo than most just because of the circumstances. It was a last-minute rush job to get rid of a logo that was associated with the worst owner in sports history. Looking at the Washington Football Team/Commanders clownshow, it could have been a whole lot worse.
OKC has no excuse. The Nets are worse than both - their move to Brooklyn was announced seven years in advance but the branding looks like it was thrown together in an afternoon.
OKC's is abhorrent in that they still use a horrible abstract art piece that was a placeholder before they even had a name picked out. Even worse is that if that piece of trash was a child it'd be getting its drivers license right about now. When that thing made its debut the Warriors still used the lightning Power Ranger and the Sixers still had the Iverson-era logo. With Bennett fleecing the public yet again for a new arena they really have no excuse to not, you know, actually have a logo that has something to do with Thunder.

What's this? The Clippers rebranding to acknowledge that they're named after a ship?

I don't know why people refuse to blame the teams themselves when they don't like a uniform. The teams are the clients. Nike works for them and has to deliver what they want. The Commanders' uniforms suck because Dan Snyder's wife designed them herself. They would suck exactly the same if Adidas or Reebok or Under Armour was the supplier instead.
Reverting back to a throwback uniform is just the current fad. And look at who's doing it. The Jets are definitely only switching to throwbacks so Woody can pander to fans while fielding the most embarrassing product in the NFL.
That's not even a sports-specific thing. See: Burger King, Subway, Pizza Hut, Pepsi.

I'd be honesty shocked if they don't postpone at least one Dodger game this weekend as rare as postponements are here. Imagine people trying to navigate that parking lot in a downpour.
