  1. Steve Largent with his original NFL team, pre-Seahawks career...
  2. I feel a loyalty towards ARCO because they sponsored my soccer team in 5th grade. I don't go out of my way for one, but if I have a choice between ARCO and another gas station and the price isn't that big a difference, I'll hit the ARCO every time.
  3. How many of the Bills are from Buffalo? You're not rooting for hometown players, you're rooting for a corporation. Maybe if hometown teams had hometown players, I'd be more inclined to root for them. Also, if you moved, say to Boston, would you keep your Buffalo allegiances or switch to Boston teams? I was fortunate to grow up in a city 2000 or so miles from any pro team. It let me come up with my own criteria on who to root for.
  4. I said there were exceptions, people just getting into the sport were one of them. People who switch to their local team because it's local are disloyal to their original team, and I don't like that. When MLS was founded, I became a New England Revolution fan for a myriad of reasons. When Seattle got a team, I stayed with the Revolution, I showed no disloyalty or change of heart. My friend was a Chicago Blackhawks fan, when Anaheim got a team, he chose to root for them, even over Chicago, because his mom and some family lived there. I questioned this and we had several arguments about this.
  5. 1. I think playoffs in any sport are a flawed structure that rely on hype to convince people to watch them. 2. There should be no fans over 10 of the Vegas Golden Knights. If you changed to Vegas for whatever reason, I consider you disloyal and have no respect for you. There are always exceptions to this, but they are few and far between. 3. Just to make this uniform related - if I hate the team, I hate the uniform. No matter what the New York Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, Wazzu Cougars, L.A. Dodgers or any other team I dislike, come out in, I will hate it. On the flip side, if a team I like wears something I am not happy with, I'll let them know I don't like it. (Washington Huskies and any black). Are those unpopular enough?
  6. It's where I first saw him, and have always associated that jersey with him even though I have his Vancouver #16 jersey hanging in the closet right now...
  7. Back when Bosworth first entered the league, he wore his old college number. The NFL stepped in and said no, that's not a linebacker's number, you have to change. So he went to 55.
  8. Where do I put a picture if the player is wearing the right uniform, but the "wrong" number?
  9. Just because his name came up, and I always liked him: here's Mark Brunell with his 2 lesser known teams. His daughter was recently Miss Alabama and competed in the Miss USA pageant. That makes me feel old.
  10. Just out of curiosity, as my friend still has a Tampa Bay Mariners shirt, was/is there any merchandise for the L.A. Seahawks after their attempted move? I know it was later aborted, but did they start making merchandise in anticipation of the move being OK'd?
  11. The only thing I had remembered about the Nagano olympics was that I watched the gold medal game in a sportsbar with Brent Gretzky. I like the NHLers playing in the Olympics, but I remember the 1984 and 1988 games more than any NHL olympic games.
  12. I have no rooting interest in tonight's NCAA basketball game as I did not go to Gonzaga or N.C. I was raised not being allowed to root for college teams and I do the same for my kids. None of them have any UW gear, as they did not go there. Someone brought me a Boston College hockey hat a couple years ago that sits in my closet, I have no affiliation with B.C. won't wear it. I think that college and professional sports rooting are two different things. I've never been to Pittsburgh, but have no problem rooting for the Penguins. It wasn't until I started at UW that I became a fan of theirs.
  13. I hear Atlanta has an opening, should the Flames be looking for a new home. (poor joke, I know)
  14. Based on prior conversations, here's Ricky Henderson, the Mariner...
  15. I was going to just put Scott Gomez in his Alaska Aces uniform (played with them during the lockout), but forgot he finished his NHL career with Ottawa, so here it is...
  16. I got official notification the morning that the Aces will cease operations at the end of the season. Bummer, I used to work for the team back in the 90's, sad to hear of their passing. One season, they signed Link Gaetz and there was a lounge under the arena where the players would go after the game and socialize with some ticket holders, team workers, and there was catered food and a bar. After one game, Gaetz walked in, slammed his fist on the bar and announced loudly "The warrior needs a beer!" It was quite scary and intimidating. Other teams would have at least one player who would want to test himself by getting in a fight on ice with Gaetz.
  17. Just got the new Washington Huskies baseball jersey announcement in email today. I don't like the pattern around the back number, but at least it's not black.
  18. The Port Angeles Lefties of the WCL (summer collegiate baseball). if you're a righty, do you get to play?
  19. I missed the Randy Johnson no-hitter because it was raining out and my friend and I didn't want to be stuck at the bus stop in the rain.
  20. When I was a kid, it bugged me that Seattle could play Washington for the title because i thought they should be friends before it was explained to me that Washington referred to D.C. and not the state I was in.
  21. Jim Zorn as a Green Bay Packer and a Winnipeg Blue Bomber. Sorry, couldn't find any pictures of him in action with Tampa Bay...
  22. I usually like hearing the stories behind a flag rather than the actual design. If there's a good story behind it, it goes up high in my book, even though I think it's a poor or boring design. I learned earlier this summer what the Austrian flag represents when I went there, and it instantly transformed it in my mind from a boring one, to a more impressive one. Sorry, I don't recall all the exact details, but during a war a while ago, the general leading the Austrian forces was mortally wounded. Back at the field hospital, they removed his sash, and the blood soaked white shirt underneath was removed and waved over the army to rally the troops to victory, hence, the red-white-red (rot-weiss-rot), they currently have. Again, I thought it was a boring flag until I read the story.
  23. Though I believe there may be exceptions, my feelings about the team strongly influence whether I like the jersey/logo or not. Teams I hate can not have a jersey/logo I like, I just don't allow it. Likewise (with the main exception of the black Huskies unis) if I like the team, they generally cannot come up with something I don't like.
