  1. 2013 but i get your point. putting on some stripe weight for the long winter (rebuild)
  2. probably going to be something similar to the rangers new alt, but i would prefer if the gradient went from teal to white down the sleeves (from the elbow) rather than the normal striping split up into more lines edit: or like this, great concept @Puckguy14
  3. with the mixing and matching of teal helmets with the road uniforms, a door has been opened to possibly mix and match the black equipment with the regular sets
  4. i know they're much maligned for being generic and having no red but i still think these are kinda nice. they would probably improve by replacing the crest with the current shield and the dumb shoulder patches with the palm tree secondary. it still doesn't fit the panthers identity but in a vacuum i quite enjoy them. it's also been said to death but i will repeat that the columbus alt should be the basis for their primaries with an updated number font. everything else (winter classics aside) - bleh
  5. there's gonna be some very upset people in here lol

  7. you're entitled to the opinion on the combination but I think it looks fantastic despite me agreeing with the aforementioned rule of two matching elements. however, I think they look washed out to you because of the inconsistent lighting/quality of these photos. under sunshine these (and any) charger combos look amazing and vibrant, without the oversaturation like the rams' colors fall victim to. even under stadium lights they pop: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/gEK0WAajKvM" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/4H33_Cj2Gc8" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  8. did they really call it a collar yolk?? I dont want to make the WVU stereotypes but they might be doing it themselves
  9. in terms of lighting sofi is essentially an outdoor stadium, but considering there was a whole tropical storm happening outside it looks way duller than normal
  10. without that red pop of color the knights would be almost as dull as the kings current black and white or the just mentioned and much maligned pittsburgh edge-era or tiny anaheim. it gives the set some life and contrast and ties in to the excellent secondary logo that would otherwise look a little too out of place without the stripe. I like to think of it as some type of armband or pauldron akin to a ceremonial/decorative cape if we are applying this to the features of an actual knight. the gold and red together is just very regal.
  11. yeah the neon is fine in a vacuum but the burnt orange fits philly a lot better and you're right, has been around for far longer. this fits the broad street bullies brand and style that the team (tries) to lean into: far better than this (also has to do with the emphasis on black but still) i've maintained the reverse retro 1.0 is the best the flyers have ever looked. hopefully they take something like that into consideration for the redesign since they probably won't do a 1-1 swap to that.
  12. meh, as a colorado alum I think these are hokey in comparison to the current ones. I get they wore these in the glory years but they need some modernizations. the current uniforms have the italicized font and numbers that match the logo motion and the bolder double layer numbers are stronger and make it look less like a catalog look. I can live with adding stripes to the current look but I think with such solid and restrained color blocking between helmet/jersey/pants it is ultimately unneeded. side note that pic of coach mac feels like it encapsulates his tenure at CU
  13. the black helmet has been matte/satin since the redesign, and they do occasionally break out metallic logos like here i think they may have done a metallic version of the regular logo at some point or another but i'm not too sure. it looks great for sure
  14. it looks like these new arizona alts have a slightly different shade of maroon than the howler uniforms. i guess bauer can't match that color or something. no one else wears the bauer 4500 on the coyotes so hard to tell. but that helmet's been around forever
  15. anyone see the matte finish on zack kassian's alternate helmet? thought it was maybe because of a special helmet model but he wears the super prevalent bauer 4500. interesting to see, don't know if i've ever seen such a finish on a hockey helmet.
  16. it remains utterly baffling to me that a professional sports team (not just the coyotes) can release a new uniform without showing the full thing head-to-toe in a clear well lit photo. it seems you can only get one of the two these days, and even then it is more likely to be a video rather than a photo. not one picture in the coyotes press release shows the waist down, which would show off the unique and prominent cactus side stripe. just ridiculous.
  17. agreed on best flyers look in history and 'mean and hard-nosed' is me comparing it to the new orange and probably just more associating the old orange with the broad st bullies and big beefy 90s teams
  18. shame that the flyers are going with a brand new design, would've love to see them go back to a 90s or reverse retro 1.0 look. I think this was a very strong design with better color distribution that emphasized black over white, which i think gives them way more of a punch than the white. just overall more striking and matches the logo. at the very least go back to the old orange and get rid of the contrasting nameplate. I like the new orange in a vacuum, but the old shade just seems to fit philly as a city better. mean and hard nosed
  19. not afraid to admit the felt treatment on vintage/WC/fauxback crests and numbers gets me hot and bothered
  20. absolutely love how unique these look, especially in the broadcast view. it looks unique enough that I don't see a hurricanes or senators alt. however, the fact that it's a red wings uniform is pretty sacrilegious. give this design to the senators and I think it's more highly praised. also generally love the avalanche RR from the color blocking to restoring the extra stripe and old font. but that giant colorado flag logo does not do it for me. too big, too plain, and the curve of a circle clashes with the angular mountains too much in my opinion.
  21. I'm hoping that if the blue jackets can roll out two pairs of pants on a full time basis combined with all these reverse retro looks and regular throwbacks with different pant colors that more teams can follow suit for home and away pants. i know it's gotta be quite a bit more of a hassle for the equipment team, but we all know so many teams could benefit from it namely, colorado, san jose (even though I don't mind the all-teal at all), carolina, a theoretical full-time anaheim look based on reverse retro. probably some more I can't think of
  22. damn my whole solution to tweak the panthers with USC stripes and numbers on the sleeves was literally right there with the texans. i feel like that's both on me and the texans' solid but unremarkable brand. perfectly cromulent uniforms lol
  23. not going with blue pants and white helmets is a braindead decision. hell, i don't even think blue helmets and blue pants would look terrible. I think it works fairly well when team USA uses it on occasion pittsburgh looks good in a vacuum but looks almost identical to boston at a tv angle. pointed yoke looks nice, but I think i prefer the black script jersey. BUT IT NEEDS ROBOPEN ON THE SHOULDERS
  24. yes. gimmicky still but subtler in the sense that it evokes the logo and how the mascot actually looks, in a manner that better adheres to the contours of a football uniform, rather than plastering what looks like a graphic and not actual stripes into spaces that are ill-fitted for such designs, namely the shoulders. also, they are designed to look like the mascot rather than having an action the mascot does to others applied to... the mascots themselves. regardless, both designs are not something the panthers or any other NFL team should be doing. 1) that's your opinion but with the logo being mostly black it disappears on the helmet. does it fit a nikespeak theme a la the jaguars' "creeping into the shadows"? sure, but I don't think that's a good justification to essentially hide the logo within the helmet. 2) their jerseys can still be balanced with minimal silver if the colorblocking of black over silver pants is kept intact. could the numbers be silver or outlined in it for more consistency? sure, but it's no dealbreaker. 3) the panthers are a black/electric blue/silver team that mainly uses white for the necessity of away uniforms. silver emphasizes their modern color scheme with sensible design aesthetics. when used on the helmet it becomes a restrained complimentary color rather than a minor accent. I also think the softness of silver vs white makes the light blue contrast more if the colors are ever to touch you cited a uniform that is not in use anymore and had a short shelf life aka has not stood the test of time, whose biggest and brashest unique element (giant shoulder logos identical to the helmet logo) also isn't shared by any modern team. and you also cited recent uniform redesigns which bucked trends of conventional style and....? will they stand the test of time? who knows, we haven't lived that long, but I would place large amounts of money on these looks changing when possible and not looked upon as timeless uniforms that should've been kept around. there are some positive elements but as a whole package they are blips on the timeline of NFL uniforms because of poor or over design. maybe the future proves me wrong, but I wouldn't count on it. which could be alleviated with silver pants when wearing white. the execution could be improved with fabrics but the basic concept is fine, like the idea of the cowboys' silver helmets and pants. or not, I don't see why white over white is unbalanced. plenty of teams wear white jersey and white pants with a deep dark helmet color; silver helmets are closer on the color wheel to white which should make them more balanced if anything. I don't know what you're trying to say with 'deeper' more teams don't have to switch silver helmets. in fact, between the panthers, cowboys, lions, raiders and patriots, there's quite a few. but the black base of their jersey set them apart from the pats, cowboys and lions, and the the 3 colors sets them apart from the raiders. i'll give you the closeness of the lions and panthers color schemes, but they also prioritize the colors differently and have different enough design elements that they are recognizable as their own. there's only so many (good) color combos to go around, good design should not be thrown away because another team shares it AND uses it differently. color hierarchy and tried and true design elements make them unique AND good despite other similar traits to other teams. but unique does not automatically mean good. I don't think anyone is saying that. if a uniform (god forbid) featured flannel patterns and i don't know... bubble designs, would it be unique? absolutely. but you would be hard pressed to find someone who thinks they are well designed. the whole reason for the argument is that we all agree the panthers at the very least need some tweaks to their uniforms. removing the logo, removing tv numbers or replacing the logo with them, and altering the stripes all tweak and improve already pretty good design while keeping the panthers brand intact, without going over the rails and falling into gimmicky design that falls into the buccaneers clock numbers or jaguars two tone helmet territory. you can enjoy the cat scratch uniforms like I enjoy the mizzou tiger stripe ones. but there is a reason why most teams haven't adopted something like that, and if they do, they do not last long.
  25. I think the only time i've ever liked a gimmicky and very not subtle design like scratch marks are mizzou's old (?) uniforms. it was fairly restrained and closely resembled the tiger head logo. that being said I would never advocate for the panthers or any other NFL team to do it. also would never remove silver from the panthers' palette. removing silver leaves black, blue or white helmets to use, which 1) do not work nearly as well or at all with their logo 2) throw off the balance of their color blocking 3) dilute their brand and simply make it more boring and run of the mill edit: honorable mention goes to arkansas' hogtooth design in concept, but execution left a lot to be desired
