  1. Tends to happen when you miss the playoffs for the last three years and the excitement has shifted to a NBA champions Mavericks, and a Rangers team that's made two strait World Series appearances. Yeah I suppose you are right especially when it's NFL season too, but 9,000 fans for a team that represents a region of over 6 million. Maybe they'll come back to watch the Stars when the World Series is over. Stars are going to have to still be winning. A hot start is nice, but if they can't carry it over once all these "distractions" are gone, then the'll be up a creek reeeeaaaalllll quick.
  2. There are two hotels in the same parking lot as the arena, so I'm sure if they wanted to, they could make the accommodations to put them up there if they really wanted to. I guess it'd be interesting to also look into what teams do that and where the practice rink is located compared to the arena in relation to where the players lived. What was the Thrashers situation in that regard? Ever since the Coyotes moved to Phoenix in the first place, the players have almost all lived in Scottsdale or at least that side of the Valley. I don't know why they didn't do this when the arena was build in Glendale in the first place if it was that much of an inconvenience or, as they players/coaches said, an advantage. I know that moving the morning skate rink site is a small thing, but it brings back the point. I wonder if this whole mess would have ultimately been avoided if they built the arena in Scottsdale like they were originally supposed to. Closer to the players, coaches, management, "hockey-type" fans, downtown Phoenix, airport, etc. Or if it was just never going to work in the first place? Hypotheticals, I know, but it's interesting to at least throw around.
  3. Holy Christ... I was perusing the Coyotes website for tonight's attendance vs Chicago (11,051, btw), and I found an article today about the Coyotes changing the location of their morning skate from Jobing.com Arena in Glendale to their practice rink, Ice Den, in Scottsdale. 1) The players don't even like driving out there, apparently. 2) Shut up, Shane.
  4. You know what I hadn't ever noticed or not, but I just looked it up on the Cardinals website. The parking lots around the Westgate Center are parking lots that you need a pass for. Season ticket holders get a pass and you can buy a pass for the game. But then it looks like there are some parts of the Westgate lots that aren't part of the parking pass area. (A majority of it is pass areas though.) I've never really paid attention to all that part though, because I just drive by it when going to Cardinals games. My family has season tickets, so we have the parking passes. There are some free lots not that much farther away that the Cardinals provide a shuttle service for too. But really from what I can see, basically the entire Westgate area is practically made into a Cardinals pre-game area. In theory if there was someone who wanted to go see a movie or shop there or whatever during a Cardinals game (there are some people that DON'T like sports ), it looks like they probably just wouldn't be able to. Practically blocked off. It's only for 10 Sundays a year, so that's obviously much more manageable than 41 Coyotes dates.
  5. Also, because I know you all are interested in these things, I went to the Jets/Coyotes game on Saturday, and parking is still free. And as long as you don't turn down the "streets" that funnel you to the hockey parking lot, then you can park right next to the movie theaters and such. Even if the Yotes started to charge for parking, people would either go across the street to Cabela's/Cracker Barrel or just park next to the movie theaters. Unless they want you to pay to park for the freaking movie theater.
  6. Yeah you can't see them in the picture there, but there are condo/apartments there. The complex is called Pillar at Westgate, if you're really interested in looking it up.
  7. Didn't see a better place to ask this. Every time I click the button to go to the first unread post in the College Football uniforms thread in Sports Logos, I am always taken to the last post in the entire thread, no matter what I actually looked at last. It only happens in that thread. I don't know if this is just a weird isolated problem with me, or if it's an issue with that thread. Just thought I'd point it out to see if there's anything about it.
  8. Eh, not really. Yeah he's obviously had a ton of success in New Orleans, but I personally think it's still a little weird to see him in a Saints uniform sometimes.
  9. I think Mizzou is a bit of a stretch for the SEC on this one. But who knows, we're going to live in a world where TCU is in the Big East, and we have lived with Louisiana Tech playing in the same conference as Hawaii. Before I actually started to pay attention to college football (like 10 years ago or middle school), I had always thought Clemson was an SEC school just by their program, vibe, and all that jazz. Florida State is almost like that too. Both school's biggest rival is already in the SEC (South Carolina and Florida). I think those two work way better in the SEC's mold than Mizzou would, or even more than A&M would but that's past that point. The only downside of Clemson and FSU is that they are already within the SEC footprint. I don't know what else that brings to the SEC other than ANOTHER rivalry or evening up the conference/divisions.
  10. I don't really understand it. They got swept out by the Red Wings. They lost their franchise goaltender. They're going to be worse than last year. But this is a good thing for Coyotes fans. Now those tickets sold need to actually show up, but it's a good thing. It shows some improvement. It gives the NHL more reason to try and keep the team there. The problem for the relocation advocates is that this gives Gary Bettman another crutch to lean on. Bettman can point to the increase in ticket numbers as the strength of the market and draw this out a little longer despite the financial losses. If this shows someone that the Coyotes are a good investment and a deal gets done to keep them here. Great. If this doesn't really matter, and the Coyotes are still a sink hole that someone buys to bring to greener pastures. Great. Just get this over with.
  11. To go along with the last two: More Kariya (plus a 2-fer): More Teemu: And this isn't a wrong uniform, but the wrong number on that uniform: (When Teemu came back to the Ducks, Fredrik Oluasson had #8, and Teemu let him keep it for the one year)
  12. I haven't gotten around to reading all the threads today, and that thread's title doesn't exactly explain what it's talking about. So I missed it. Sorry. Merge/Delete/Graveyard/Whatever you want to do. I felt this thread name went along with the continuing story better anyways.
  13. The best part is that the article says that Hulsizer is still interested in buying an NHL franchise. Who wants to put money down that Hulsizer ends up buying the Panthers/Blue Jackets and doing whatever he may please with them before the Coyotes ever leave Phoenix?
  14. I figured that since what was originally the Coyotes thread merged with the Thrashers thread and is now the Jets thread, this needed a new place for uncluttered discussion. Hulzier ends bid to buy Coyotes For the sake of everything, either move the team or blow it up. Nobody wants them or thinks that it' worth the hassle to buy them. Just ridiculous.
  15. Geographically, the Mariners get royally screwed. Financially/competitively, the Blue Jays get royally screwed.
  16. So every American team is at a competitive disadvantage when it comes to winning the Stanley Cup? Yeah, I don't think so. Canada doesn't NEED a yearly participant. They EARN it just like everybody else.
  17. Dude, you weren't even around here when that happened. I read through it and deciphered the system of it, the minor league affiliates and everything Too bad that joke ran it's course. It hasn't even been brought up for months, and that's for a reason. You're trying too hard.
  18. So for the playoffs, would the AL have the only Wild Card? And Cleveland in the Central when it's farther East than East division Detroit?
  19. Exactly the reasons I went to Arizona State. The UCs are even worse. In-State UC tuition is more than Out-of-State ASU tuition. Absolutely ridiculous. Love my home state, but the financial and political situations are just cluster s.
  20. FWIW, Most NHL championship banners I've seen say "Stanley Cup Champions," and I've also seen many "Super Bowl Champions" banners (but like BBTV said, the NFL is the only major American football league, and therefore "World Champions" applies). MLB and NBA really proliferate the World Champions thing. Although I've seen a few "World Series Champions" things before.
  21. Had he been wearing an authentic, the falls wouldn't have got him as drenched
