  1. I grew up in Dayton and aside from concerts, my friends and I all tried to avoid going to Cincy if we could. It was a racist and archconservative place, belonging more to Kentucky than Ohio (this was before Ohio politically turned into Alabama). They built a highway named after Reagan while he was still alive. If we had to go to the "big city" we went to Columbus, which is bland and generic but not as nakedly right-wing.
  2. The problem is that no one outside of Cleveland knows why "Guardians" is a locally-appropriate name. When I heard it first, I just assumed it was one of those generic proto-military names.
  3. WRs weren't allowed to wear 10-19 until 2004. It's possible Verdin got a waiver because all of the 80s were in use.
  4. Actually, no. It's very common.
  5. The Cincinnati Zoo used to be well known for its white tiger exhibit (and maybe is now, too, but I haven't been back out there in 30 years).
  6. They should just flip all the way and call themselves the Valpo Saracens.
  7. You might think it's hyperbole, but a cursory glance at the "NFL Uniform Rankings Thread" shows that almost all the participants in that thread put the Rams' uniforms dead last. LAST in a league that still has the Arizona Cardinals and Cincinnati Bengals! I will grant that a few of those rankings were probably jokes - but not all of them. Some people really do think that the dishwater means it's the worst of all time, which is crazy. I can watch a Rams game without the uniforms affecting my enjoyment of the game, but it looks like not everyone can.
  8. Totally agree with you in the way you intended, but many of the folks here in this thread would agree with you in that they think the Rams unis are far, far WORSE than the Bucs alarm clock situation. More than one person here has called the Rams' current uniforms "the worst of all time." I just don't get it. I have to assume those people just started watching the NFL a couple of seasons ago.
  9. Almost all of these teams would improve by getting rid of the navy, the most overused color in all sports. The Bears started out with navy, and still look great, despite the Broncos poaching their colors. The Seahawks and Patriots changed to navy due to the fact that all blue colors in the NFL turned to navy around 2000 - throw them back. The Texans look 100% generic with their boring navy uniforms. The Titans should have kept the Oilers colors. The Cowboys are a disaster and should use the royal blue, not the navy.
  10. I just don't know how you could compare the dumpster fire of the Bledsoe Bills to today's Rams. Is the bone a disappointment? Sure. But replace that with white, get rid of the gradient, and the unis are fine - as opposed to pretty much every element of that Bills uniform sucking. And also, no team should ever use navy again. Not as an accent color, and certainly not as a primary.
  11. It just makes me wonder what could have been. The same uniform, using white and not dirty gray, would be pretty terrific (ignoring the pointless gradients). What a missed opportunity.
  12. I will never, ever understand the love for the yellow Steeler helmets everyone else seems to love. The Steelers were absolutely terrible during their yellow helmet era. Why commemorate that? Beyond that, the yellow helmet just doesn't look like the Steelers to me. Maybe Green Bay or early-1970s Football Team, but not Steelers.
  13. Yes, a couple years ago they changed the shade of orange to match the Bengals' orange color. A huge mistake if you ask me.
  14. I admit that I simply do not understand the love for gray facemasks. They were gray in the first place because the finishing technology wasn't there - if they could have been painted on during the "gray era," they would have been. To my eyes, gray facemasks are dull and ugly. Facemasks should always, always be a team color. Possibly the Giants could wear a gray facemask with their gray pants and look okay. Otherwise, nope. Unpopular opinion, but there it is.
  15. Likewise, there's nothing in the rules that says a dog can't play wide receiver!
  16. Thanks. I agree; the Bills should have a red helmet with a white facemask - their best look.
  17. Guess this one's about to be shut down, too, then. Surely the mods wouldn't be so inconsistent.
  18. That would mean they'd have to change the helmet and lose the EE, which nobody wants.
  19. That's just silly, because modern college uniforms now follow the Oregon template: throw everything into a blender and add as much crap as possible. By contrast, NFL uniforms generally look professional, which is what you want from a professional league.
  20. I do not like them, and I would love to see a return to the old classic uniforms they ditched for this set, but I would in fact put the current Broncos uniforms down with Arizona and Cincinnati. They were never good and have just gotten more and more stale over time. First, of course, they ripped off the Bears' colors when their royal blue worked just fine. In fact, they may be the originators of the navy trend that made the NFL so hard to look at for 20 years, and if so they have a lot to answer for. No, it is not. That ugly round font with the weird serifs? Yeah, not good anywhere, and particularly not on a football uniform. The helmet is trash. The navy problem I already discussed, that weird and ugly stripe, and the way they threw out the wonderful "D" logo for an oblong monstrosity (seriously, oblong logos like the Patriots or the Broncos are ugly and bad design unless they fit the shape of the helmet like the Green Bay G or the Chargers' bolt) all put the helmet down as one of the worst in the league. Just because a uniform doesn't have piping or tiger stripes or yokes doesn't automatically make it good. The Broncos look like the Nike logo with those side panels and always have. Which of course is how they were designed to look by Nike. They're a giant ad! Burn it and throw it back to the previous set, or even the set before that which I think I actually like even better if we could only bring the sleeves back.
  21. Truth. It's so sad that such an awesome helmet is paired with the complete garbage pile that is the Bengals' uniforms. And they've had them for many, many years now, so they're never likely to change them. Also, the Broncos. They only looked cool for a couple years in the 90s. And like the Bengals, they got rid of an iconic uniform to switch to that mess.
