Did some research and finally found the land they bought: https://www.google.com/maps/place/43°24'36.7"N+80°17'01.0"W/@43.4101914,-80.2861965,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m4!3m3!8m2!3d43.4101875!4d-80.2836216?entry=ttu

This seems like it would have been a really terrible idea. Corel Centre II: Even Corellier.

Holy :censored:, the houses across the street is where my sister used to live.

    Small world.

And yes, that would have been a horrible location.

Wasn't it like a big plot of land off an expressway interchange?

That part I don't recall.  Would make sense though.

They just find new layers of "what could have been" in that town, don't they?

    Yup.....

With the delays in the renovation, Copps/First Ontario has lost the CeBL team (minor pro basketball) and the OHL team. Sounds like the Toronto Rock will come back but I don't even know if that is a guarantee. They've fumbled this so badly.

Incidentally, I swear there were reports that Copps Coliseum was only to be a stopgap while they built a new arena in, of all places, Cambridge, roughly equidistant to Hamilton and Kitchener-Waterloo, but I can't find any sources.  But why would I imagine that?

That was a popular rumor at the time. You're remembering right. That was because Blackberry/Research in Motion was a massive company in Waterloo at the time. I don't think that rumor lasted once the renderings of the renovated Copps came out.

The rumors from the message boards have been Montreal but nothing from the insiders

I think that's cause of the neutral site game they played there. I can see how people would make that connection.

But yeah, I haven't heard/seen anything from an insider so I'm assuming that quiet (when there are other things coming out) is for a reason.

.........of course you know what happens when you assume! lol.

Interesting that there are no rumors about Panther City yet.

That's what I find to be interesting as well.

Maybe they stay put for another year?

Getting to that arena is a pain in the ass, but maybe that'd be fun to go to once or twice. I'm already familiar with the Riptide now.

Having the best player in the game currently in Teat should help too.

Hopefully they can add a piece or two and start off with a good team.

**Edit: just noticed you posted that logo in the other lacrosse thread**

  7. No doubt in my mind that an NLL team can work in DFW.
This ownership has messed up big time in many ways

I too think a refresh with a proper city name, proper advertising and, a good team could make this a success.

It was apparently someone who knows someone who works in the Panther City Front Office who posted it on a lacrosse message board.  I don't really know how valid it is.

Either way, something needs to be done with Panther City.  They have awful attendance, so I don't know how they are going to fix it.  Usually DFW area teams (if they are winning) have good crowds.  PCLC is competitive and have a shot at going to the playoffs but nobody would know.  But if they go to the playoffs and win it all, will anyone in the DFW area care?  If they win it all, they won't have a championship parade, they will have a championship celebration where all 200 of their fans will be in attendance in a gathering in Fort Worth (probably at Dickie's Arena) and then management will wonder why they didn't get a championship parade like the other DFW sports teams.  If they win it all, it's also unlikely that the other DFW sports teams (except the Dallas Wings since they have the same owners) will send congratulatory tweets as they did when the Texas Rangers won the World Series.

    Fair enough.

From my point of view: It seems really silly of the NLL to agree to a 3 year ownership agreement. I was just curious of the details of that agreement because it seems pretty low risk for the PCLC owners and I'm wondering if that's why they haven't bothered to spend money on advertising, ect.

To your point something needs to be done for sure. Any games I've watched on TV, it's seemed like there's no one there. I looked at some attendance numbers and was shocked that the average is 3000. I thought it would be less.

Their total attendance this season is less than 10 of the other NLL team's average. That's really bad news. The Bandits total attendance this year is more than 10 times of PCLC. Insane!

So what I have read is that there's a three year ownership agreement and that Panther City Ownership (who also own the Dallas Wings) may choose not to extend the agreement.

I'm curious as to where you found this?

I'm not saying you are incorrect. I just haven't seen that and am wondering where you got that from.

I'd really like to think that! As zubazpirate points out- there's some fairly strong entities within the league, I have no doubt Forge and the Cavs could land on their feet regardless of what happens, but even without this uncertainty there's at least two (York and Valour) clubs who are on shaky ground.

Yeah. I've assumed for 2 seasons now Valour will drop out but the Bombers keep them going, thank goodness.

York just got new ownership.....I don't profess to know much other than the owners also have ties to the Mexican league (which I know very little about). I think their family owned or owns a team.....I should  It's great news the league got the team away from the Baldassarra family who seemed to pass it around between the family and their company. I can only assume that was for tax reasons....but I really don't know so I probably shouldn't speculate.

Either way, I hope that means good things for York...again, call me overly optimistic if you feel that's the case 😆.

I can't stand to think of the CPL disappearing. It's clearly been helping the pipeline.

All of this just seems too typical for Soccer Canada, finally getting things turned around. I remain optimistic but I admit a bit fearful. I really don't want to think of the program regressing. I recall going to games just hoping they'd win and make it to the hex. I don't want to go back to those days.
