  1. Breaking: Big Ten will pile on...press conference scheduled for 11 a.m.
  2. Who does that $60 Million go to and how is it spent? Per the statement: "These funds must be paid into an endowment for external programs preventing child sexual abuse or assisting victims and may not be used to fund such programs at the university."
  3. They did say "unprecedented", right? That list, dubious as it might be, certainly qualifies.
  4. http://www.washingto..._washingtonpost And I thought denial was just a river in Egypt.
  5. So you don't know what they are, but you already know it's not enough to satisfy you. I interpreted it as a reaction to "no football will be taken away", in which case I am willing to say it will not be enough. Or at least not the right punishment with the right message. Bingo.
  6. So the NCAA can't impose the two-year ban along with everything else? Again, it's a cop-out. Pure and simple. @BBTV: I'm saying that a lot of people were demanding the death penalty, and it looks like we're not getting it, if the rumors are right. I agree with you, though: we should reserve judgement until the NCAA goes on record. But as of now it's hard to be anything but skeptical.
  7. Whatever the penalties ultimately are, to some people (myself included), it won't be enough. There must be a huge sigh of relief in Miami right now, because if this didn't rise to the standards of applying the death penalty, then nothing does.
  8. And it's about to get better: NCAA drops the hammer tomorrow morning, 9 a.m. The word "unprecedented" is in the headline. Here comes the death penalty, folks.
  9. Fence erected around area where Paterno statue is located. Looks like they're (finally) taking that damn thing down. Took them long enough.
  10. They will if there's enough financial incentive to do it. Keeping the university's federal funding/accreditation is a pretty nice carrot.
  11. For all of us wondering if the NCAA was going to get involved with this: They are.
  12. Which means we get at least one more year of this. Joy.
  13. *AHEM* For one thing Hamilton used to be in the NHL. Secondly Hamilton can support an NHL better than either Winnipeg or Quebec put together. So it would be nice if you can put away your anti-Hamilton bigotry for once and all... *AHEM* Two reasons why Hamilton will NEVER sniff the NHL again: 1 - The arena sucks 2 - The juggernaut up the QEW known as Maple Leaf Sports and World Domination Entertainment The first is fixable. The second is not.
  14. The first time I had a fried egg on top of a burger, I realized that the chef in that game was the one with the real problem. Nah, he was just ahead of his time.
  15. Tickets for the Islanders-Devils exhibition game went on sale today - here's the seating map on the ticket page: I still can't believe they built an arena in New York City metro too small to accommodate every type of event that utilizes arenas. I don't just mean hockey either. Now you have fewer seats for concerts, you don't have room for motocross or monster trucks or the circus. Not that monster trucks are a big draw in New York, but why not leave open the possibility? It seems so stupidly shortsighted. Three words: Madison. Square. Garden. Between the Knicks, Rangers, and the other events held at MSG, there would be no open dates for another team to play. Also, I doubt the Isles would want to play on Rangers logo'd ice, and the Rangers certainly wouldn't change it. But it doesn't matter anyway, because of the first thing. Also, would the Islanders crowd (what's left of it) go into Manhattan for games? *facepalm* I was attempting to explain why the Barclays Center was built the way it was, not advocating for the Islanders to move to MSG. I think we all know that would never happen as long as the Dolans still run things over there.

  17. Now that you mention it that way, yep, that's exactly what it looks like.
  18. "The gentlemen occupying the Colisee will have to make order of the mess in their place." I think Quebec City just evicted the Remparts I think your translation's off. Google Translate says: "People occupying the Colisee would have to order a "household" in their premises". I think what it means is not that the Remparts are out, but that they would have to be a secondary tenant in the case an NHL team moves in (until the new arena is built).
  19. I think it makes sense, after all when one thinks of Arizona, everyone's first thought is hockey... Not me. When I think of Arizona, this is what I think of: 1. Smoking hot women 2. Smoking hot weather 3. Cacti 4. Mediocre football 5. Decent basketball 6. More cacti . . . 100. Hockey
  20. This guy would like to take issue with that assessment:
  21. Former AD Curley: I want my charges dropped Gary Schultz: Me too tl;dr version: PA law requires two witnesses to support a perjury charge. McQueary was the first.....Paterno the second. No Paterno, no case - they contend. So it's conceivable two of the key figures in the cover-up could skate. Ridiculous.
  22. 1990 and part of 1991 - right at the tail end of his career.
