  1. The Rome Braves have a new alternate logo: Personally, I can't unsee: Here's what I assume to be an alternate cap: Meh.
  2. Love it. "Daytona Tortugas" came out of left field, but it rolls off the tongue very nicely.
  3. I'm almost positive it was Colts Broncos in 2004 at RCA Right - almost. The last NFL game played on the old-style Astroturf was Colts-Broncos in RCA, but on January 9, 2005.
  4. Nice find. I've seen the mockups of the original Jaguars uniforms a thousand times, but I don't think I've ever seen an actual jersey.
  5. Yeah, you could probably make an entire thread on those planned one time only paint schemes. I didn't want to hijack this thread with a million "special" paint schemes, but thought the Richard Petty #6 and the Petty/Gordon "matchup" was relevant enough to include.
  6. I'd say the would, but I may be a bit biased. I tried to go with things that didn't even happen for a full year NASCAR is a different animal altogether - forget "a season or two," there are tons of one race only paint schemes, and I'm not talking about the "special" paint schemes that are run almost every week these days. Here's one - Richard Petty with his famous... green... #6? That's from the 1986 World 600 (now the Coca-Cola 600, of course). The King crashed his #43 in practice, and these were the days before backup cars. Journeyman driver D.K. Ulrich offered to let Petty drive his car to continue his streak of races started (I'm sure Ulrich got a few bucks out of the deal as well), they slapped some STP decals on the green #6 and went racing. Another that's NASCAR but also more appropriate for the thread. What's this grainy screencap? That's from the 1992 Hooters 500 in Atlanta (possibly the best NASCAR race of all-time), the only time Richard Petty and Jeff Gordon raced against each other. It was Petty's last race and Jeff Gordon's first Winston Cup start, and one of the few times during the race that their cars were near each other.
  7. Yep, had one of those too, the TWF - Trampoline Wrestling Federation, complete with belts made from a big cardboard box. We recorded theme songs on a cassette tape that we'd come out to, played from a boombox. The costumes and entrances were more fun than the actual wrestling. I had a sports-centered character that wore jerseys all the time (I was Cena before Cena was Cena!) and another one called "The Masked Idiot" that did stupid things that somehow made him win. Man, I miss that. Back to your regularly scheduled NFL relocation thread (or probably not)...
  8. I had leagues, but didn't go as far as naming players. I saved the stadiums for baseball . . . because drawing assymetrical bandboxes was more fun than drawing football stadiums. 'red, your 76ers would have had to battle my Jackson Magnolias for the Mississippi market. The Polar Bears would have been fighting the mighty Anchorage Anchors, who were a dynasty back in the 70s. Somehow I'm not surprised that multiple members of this board created imaginary football leagues as a kid, nor am I surprised that everyone's league contained a team in Alaska. I went a slightly different direction - I didn't expand the NFL, but made a separate minor league for states that didn't have NFL teams. I remember having 50 total teams... but that wouldn't give every NFL-less state a team. Maybe I combined the Dakotas and some other states. I definitely didn't forget any - I was a huge geography dork even as a kid. Anyway, my league featured the Anchorage Admirals, Maine Lobsters, and the New Mexico Conquistadors. /threadjack
  9. Take a pic with your phone and upload it. I don't have a VHS player. To play the tape.
  10. I can't post a pic because I don't have a VHS player, but I have a tape called "Hornets Hysteria" that reviews the inaugural 1988-89 Charlotte Hornets season. It briefly shows the Hornets' prototype uniforms - similar to the uniforms eventually worn but with "Charlotte" and the numbers in purple.
  11. That's a great picture just because of Ben Wallace... I had no idea he wore the teal/red era Pistons jerseys. Nicely done.
  12. I can't speak for Dayton, but I don't see Davidson moving up to scholarship football at all.
  13. Not a big fan of the bacon logo. Like Gothamite said, do something with it (shape it into an L, baseball bat, something) instead of just having a piece of clip-art bacon sitting there, and we're all good.
  14. Why is the "club de beisbol" offset to the left? It also bothers me how the outermost black stroke on the "Toros" script interrupts the white outline on the roundel. Why the subtle gradient in the middle? That said, it beats what it replaced. I get that the "T" is probably supposed to be bull horns... but it failed. Mexican baseball has always intrigued me. The curious relationship of LMB with MLB and Mexico's own minor leagues are quite interesting.
  15. There are a lot of weird differences in the "Desert Ghosts" text in the primary and wordmark. Look at the tops of the letters "ESE" in "Desert," the tops of all the letters in "Ghosts," and the bottom of the last S. There are also little spots of green inside the G, and between the S-T-S.
  16. I just stumbled onto this. Fantastic work and talent, all around. Great job! I'll be keeping up with these.
  17. Count me in as someone who loves the new Lake Monsters' set. Not that the previous one was bad, but I like the new one a lot.
  18. I know it's supposed to be the reins on the horse, but it looks like a really wide, froglike mouth. It's keeping me from loving it.
  19. The Charlotte Knights have new logos and colors for their move into Uptown Charlotte for 2014... Designs by Brandiose. http://www.bizjournals.com/charlotte/blog/queen_city_agenda/2013/10/charlotte-knights-bringing-a-different.html
  20. In Canada, in the late 90's Kmart did go under - bought out by the Hudson Bay Company. They made most of them into Zellers store. Kmart hasn't gone under (yet...) so they really haven't "failed," but like I said, I don't know how. I've been in a Kmart twice in the past 10 years. In both experiences, the store was less than clean and it seemed like everything was overpriced. It doesn't seem to have any sort of market that it caters to like Wal-Mart (I want my and I want it cheap!) or Target (slightly more expensive, but better quality) does.
  21. I just associate Kmart with everything equating failure. I don't know how they're still in business.
  22. Agreed. If I hadn't known beforehand, I probably wouldn't have realized it was him. Same here. It might just be the angle of the photo, but it took me a minute to realize who it was - the "winning" reference helped.
  23. I can't find the "Ridiculous Fakes on Ebay" thread, but this is close enough. Game-worn Terrell Owens 49ers jersey!
