Here's a few of Chris Kunitz, who's played most of his career with the Penguins...

and as a Thrasher... Can't find any game pics of that stint though. He literally played 2 games for the Thrashers, after being claimed on Waivers, before being REclaimed by the Ducks...

He was with the Ducks for parts of 5 seasons and won a Stanley Cup with them.  Nothing wrong about that.

This makes me think the Angels should add yellow as a trim color. Yes, Lincecum in an L.A. uniform looks a bit odd, but the overall picture looks kind of cool.

They had yellow halos from 1971 to 1992.  It helped distinguish them a bit from the other navy & red teams.

I think many people's first thoughts of Joe Thornton are as a Shark though. It's not like he accomplished anything in Boston. For all the (deserved) derision the Sharks of the past decade have gotten, they've at least had some measure of success.

But it's not a "wrong" uniform if he spends almost half his career there.

Also Kobe being drafted by the Charlotte Hornets and having a Pre-Draft workout with the Boston Celtics.

That's just wrong on so many levels.  This is why teams shouldn't give team uniforms to pre-draft prospects.  I wonder if they were thinking "This will be really awkward in 20 years if he ends up playing for the Lakers and becomes a legend."

Actually, excavation would be considerably more expensive than building higher above ground level. Teams have done this primarily because they feel it makes for a more intimate experience at the game. The stadium looks less imposing from the outside, it provides better views of the outside world at the game, and it lets the stadium be better incorporated into the neighborhood without completely dwarfing everything else.

I know this was part of the consideration with Camden Yards.  Since the field is below street level, the stadium doesn't dwarf the nearby houses and winds up being basically (if not exactly) the same height as the B&O Warehouse.

This was probably the case with Staples Center as well.  It's already way taller than most arenas because it has three levels of luxury suites plus a really high ceiling because of the banner wall in the one end.

You'd be surprised how many venues in general have the playing surface below ground level.

Basically anywhere but Florida and places right along the coast can dig down since the water table isn't right below the surface.

I'd imagine most of them do.  It makes it better for the fans sitting in the lower bowl, since they can just walk straight in to their seats instead of going up a flight of stairs or an escalator.

I hate that roof so much.  It's better than a solid dome roof I guess, but It's freaking LA - it should be an open-air venue (at least when football is being played.)

I'm shocked that the technology doesn't exist yet for some kind of less-bulky retractable roof, like something that "rolls" out or "unfolds" like tarp (but that clear material.)

I agree, it's a weird looking stadium.  I'm not crazy about the design.  It doesn't even look like a football stadium on the outside, just some weird futuristic building.  It doesn't look like it serves a function either.  And I agree if any city should have an open air stadium, it's LA.  A while back the Chargers were talking about their stadium having a soft retractable roof made of a lightweight fabric of some kind.  Farmers Field was going to have a removable roof made of a lightweight material that could be removed and installed within a few hours.

Marian Hossa- Atlanta Thrashers (2005-06 was also the last year of THAT specific Thrashers uni. His other full season, they made the blue uni the primary home

Hossa's spent so much of his career as a "hired gun" since he left Ottawa, I'd be hard-pressed to name which uniform for him is "right?" Ottawa? Atlanta? Pitts? Detroit? Hawks?

    Senators and Blackhawks.

  9. I feel that the "Jazz" nickname is, in many ways, more synonymous with Utah than New Orleans. Stockton and Malone, the '97 and '98 Finals against Jordan's Bulls, and Jerry Sloan's long tenure in Utah have all made it such an appropriate fit.

And that is the very reason why Jazz fans (not to mention most people roaming these boards and making the decision-makers in the NBA) are against changing the name. It would be a revisionist nightmare of epic proportions.

EDIT: Not to forget that the franchise is entering its 36th season of play in Salt Lake as opposed to its first 5 in New Orleans

How is that revisionist? No one is suggesting they should pretend the Utah Jazz never existed, just that the name should be changed.

I don't see how that makes it an appropriate fit. Just because they have more history in Utah doesn't mean that the name makes more sense than it does for New Orleans. Jazz music is one of the things New Orleans is best known for. Utah is about as well known for jazz as Winnipeg is for beaches and bikinis.
