  1. The reason I'm thinking it was an upset is that, from my history, the Heisman winner has always led his team to a New Year's Six game. LSU's stuck in the ReliaQuest bowl (I miss when it was the Outback or even the Hall of Fame Bowl), playin' my Badgers who are rarin' for the big upset...to me, the Heisman is for the "Most VALUABLE Player," not necessarily the "BEST player."
  2. I believe this is the biggest Heisman upset since Charles Woodson winning it over Peyton Manning in '97...
  3. What a shame...Rogers Place would be a WONDERFUL lacrosse arena.
  4. Agreed...save the cerulean tones for whenever Edmonton gets a team again. (Weren't they supposed to get one the year after the Rush moved to Saskatchewan?)
  5. Well, it's been nice knowing you, ACC. Maybe Wake Forest and NC State will stick around to prop you up as a two-team conference and do a scheduling alliance with the American or the Sun Belt until they can somehow rebuild you.
  6. They haven't even announced their affiliation...so if they're the affiliate of anybody but Vegas & Henderson, it's gonna make even less sense. (Kinda like the Reading Royals after the LA Kings dumped them)
  7. But all either conference needs to add is one more...who would that 12th school be for 'em both?
  8. Sorry I forgot to post earlier, but Minot's team is finishing up their name-the-team contest tomorrow. VOTE NOW Name your team - Minot Softball (northwoodsleague.com) The finalist names are: Valkyries Bombshells Honeybees Charm Valhalla Dalas Let's go Valhalla Dalas!
  9. In FCS news, Robert Morris is rejoining the NEC as a football affiliate member in 2024. The fact that the NEC is more willing to accept football-only members kinda gives me hope that Merrimack and Sacred Heart will still have a conference home even as the rest of their sports teams move to the non-football MAAC.
  10. Something tells me that WKU and MTSU feel like they've made a big mistake and are gonna want back in the Sun Belt soon.
  11. Don't forget UTEP (They're the reason New Mexico State got in)
  12. With Florida & South Carolina's losses tonight, James Madison & Jacksonville State are officially going bowling!
  13. The 5-6 teams are ballin' out today...ODU came back from a 21-0 deficit to knock off Georgia State as time expired. Marshall's beatin' up on Arkansas State too, so not only is the Sun Belt gonna have at least 11 teams in a bowl game this year, but the Monarchs' comeback is making their archrival JMU's bowl scenario a bit more precarious (BYU's also beatin' up on #20 Oklahoma State, so the Dukes' goose may be cooked if this keeps up tonight, getting us 82 bowl-eligible teams)
  14. So, the mighty Green Wave is one win away from back-to-back New Year's Six games! When Oregon State and Washington State start rebuilding the Pac-12, I hope Tulane has a place near the top of their wishlist.
  15. LOVE every one of these so far...both the mainstream and the not-as-well known artists are getting love here. (I'm especially lookin' forward to how the Bucks are getting the Big Gig jerseys). As for future suggestions, I was thinking: *The Bulls could have something inspired by Kanye's "College Trilogy" (College Dropout, Late Registration, Graduation). That or Common's two GOOD Music albums (Be & Finding Forever) or possibly Lupe Fiasco's first two (Food & Liquor and The Cool) *The Sixers got three possible directions (The Roots, State Property or maybe their neo-soul artists like Musiq Soulchild, Jill Scott, Jazmine Sullivan et al) *I co-sign the suggestion to have the Grizzlies be Elvis-themed. A little-known fact is that he rejected his title "King of Rock and Roll," believing Fats Domino more deserving of the honor (and who would be my pick for the Pelicans' inspiration, in tandem with other jazz greats) *I also co-sign the Pistons' Motown idea, as well as the mid-2000s H-Town rap takeover for the Rockets. *For the Spurs, I was thinking something Selena-inspired, as she's still the most iconic music star to come from South Texas. But either way, I look forward to seeing what you come up with next!
  16. Might I add that it's the one non-travel team whose home venue has not been announced yet...double woof here.
  17. That first one was my thought exactly...the only reason I entered "Chicken Caesars" is because I thought Brandiose was designing it, so I was playing to win. But all in all, this is as FANTASTIC as a rebrand gets...and I don't even mind the Pontificating Penguin. This is a unique but not goofy brand, the stuff that is best found in Minor League Baseball, and I know this brand will be as constant as the...um, Southern Cross?
  18. The former Rome Braves have finally unveiled their new name...all hail the Emperors!
  19. Padres owner Peter Seidler has passed away...he was only 63. This is terrible news...this guy was easily one of the (if not the) best owners the team has ever had. Since he became the main stakeholder, the Padres started to turn things around, and he was ready to see them become a big deal in the future. My condolences to his family, frends and every Padre fan.
  20. Maybe they'll go with the Warner Coliseum on the Minnesota State Fairgrounds...that's my guess.
  21. Note that the Neo-Soul never announced a home venue in their press release...the Fargo is probably out of the question, so where do you suppose they'll end up?
  22. But that thread is for baseball...there is no softball thread, and nobody's talking about the softball brands over there.
  23. Didn't fit in any other topic on this forum; the Northwoods League (considered by many as the nation's top summer collegiate league) is adding a women's softball division for the 2024 season, with various NwL teams fielding softball teams. Thus far, three cities have been announced; La Crosse, WI (home of the Loggers), Mankato, MN (home of the Moondogs) and Minot, ND (home of the Hot Tots). All three are currently in the middle of name-the-team contests, two of which are in the finalist polls. La Crosse Legacy Velocity Steam Cruisers Maple Leafs Mankato Habaneros Mayhem Monarchs Moxie Starlets Minot's is still in the submission period, which goes on until November 14, and the finalists poll starts on the 30th. Since this league is unique among the sports world right now, I figured it was time we started our own topic for this to have our discussions and all that...
  24. I still think that if the Triangle gets an MLB team, they should be called the Durham Bulls. Recognizable name, full of history, protagonists of the most realistic baseball movie ever...the team doesn't even have to play in the city of Durham for it to work.
  25. Indeed it is...we need a manager who can take us back to the Fall Classic, and I don't think Craig is that manager.
