  1. I was always partial to this design from 2001 keeps the basic shape and style but replaces the battle flag with the circle of stars
  2. oh good, the very phallic logo for the Dash is gone. I like the WS. Different way to interlock the two letters but it works
  3. I really like New York's logo. It won't take the XFL top spot in my heart over the Las Vegas Outlaws but it's pretty solid. I also really like Dallas as well. Yes it's a masked cowboy look but it works here. Seattle definitely looks like UAB which bothers me. Should definitely not try to even emulate an already-established brand. But overall? Pretty damn solid. Hopefully the uniforms won't be a hot mess.
  4. Here are Claw Marks on an F now here are Claw Marks on a BEAR!!! now here are Claw Marks on a BEAR ON A FLAG now here are Claw Marks on a BEAR ON A FLAG BEING CARRIED BY ANOTHER BEAR!!!!!! I actually don't mind the Bear-on-Flag logo but yeah, there's a lot of oddity going on
  5. It's possible to be traditional while also being new and fun. Brooklyn Cyclones, Lansing Lugnuts, and Montgomery Biscuits (probably one of the best goofy but not-insane names out there) all come to mind. They're not TOO outlandish and digging into obscure...excuse me, VERY obscure local ties to try and make a sell to the community. Things like Rumble Ponies, Baby Cakes, Jumbo Shrimp, Fire Frogs...with very similar logo sets and naming schemes has become gimmicky for the sake of being a gimmick, rather than trying to establish a long lasting name that doesn't make people question "what the hell is a ____________?" It worries me about the new Colorado Springs team that we'll likely get another dumb name that is so disconnected that it's another headscratcher/facepalm. Who doesn't to cheer on the Happy Campers, or the Lamp Chops, or the Punchy Pikas? Throttle Jockeys will likely come out but I could easily see Punchy Pikas """""win""""" the contest. or if it's a legit vote we'll get the Rocky Mountain Oysters and the idea of a buffalo testicle swinging a bat will hopefully cap off the Brandiose-induced redesign fad of these Minor League teams.
  6. Once again, all terrible. The only salvageable one is Long Haulers but wind-bent trees? Boot Scooters apparently has to do with a welcoming attitude...yet Bronc Busters has to do with their independent spirit. Beef Capital of the World is apparently Hereford....48 miles southwest of Amarillo. Jerky itself is just bad Sod Poodles? Just......what? I googled it and guess what all the search results were? all about the new Amarillo baseball team!!! nothing about Prairie Dogs. I call bullcrap on that name choice. MiLB continues to be full of head-shaking decisions about branding.
  7. the 24 stars represent all of the cities, towns, and incorporated villages (unincorporated villages are not represented) that were amalgamated into the City of Greater New York in 1898 The inner circle of three stars represents the cities: New York City, then already including what is today the Bronx. The City of Brooklyn, which had by then absorbed the whole of Kings County. Long Island City in Queens County. The middle circle of nine stars represents the towns: In Queens County, Newtown, Flushing, Jamaica, and the Rockaway Peninsula of the Town of Hempstead. In Richmond County, Castleton, Northfield, Southfield, Westfield, and Middletown. The outer circle of twelve stars represents the incorporated villages: In Queens County: In Flushing, the Village of Flushing, College Point, and Whitestone. In Jamaica, the Village of Jamaica and Richmond Hill. In the Rockaway Peninsula of the Town of Hempstead, Far Rockaway, Rockaway Beach, and Averne-by-the-Sea. In Richmond County: Coterminous with Castleton, New Brighton. In Northfield, Port Richmond. In Middletown, Edgewater. In Westfield, Tottenville.
  8. Just poking around on some flags and I stumbled across a neat thing that's done in Timor-Leste. All the municipalities utilize the Hoist emblem on their flags! Some look good. Others...could've been done differently National Flag Municipalities
  9. I have to question a world where "IronPigs, Flying Squirrels, Chihuahuas, and Jumbo Shrimp" are now considered "Classic Minor League Team Names" by their contemporaries.
  10. ah yes, nothing says Family Friendly atmosphere like BOURBON and giving out BOURBON GLASSES as a promotion... Jersey's look nice and I like the font on "Mashers"
  11. What's the one on the right? Marmot. They make outdoorsy clothes or something http://www.marmot.com/
  12. I wish more teams had that openness so we can see the evolution in their designs (and in some cases why they picked such awful ideas over better ones)
  13. We need a pinned Cleve-jacked thread similar to the Realignment Outpost that any convo that delves into The Cleveland Deal discussion can be sent there
  14. and they should consider Nassau Coliseum in the interim period. did they just give the Islanders a "don't let the door hit you on the way out" stance?
  15. I have a suggestion in the Concepts section: Since there is the Sports Fan Fiction subforum now, I wonder if all Logolympiad stuff should have it's own subforum as well? That way the current Logolympiad and years-past can all be viewed together, including the follow-up Portfolio threads. Primarily to avoid cluttering non-Logolympiad threads
  16. This one kinda snuck by the radars. Apparently in August, Mauritania changed their national flag with a referendum. from to The obvious difference being the addition of the two red stripes that "symbolize the blood shed in the struggle for independence from France in 1960". However, this isn't without massive controversy. " The ‘oui’ vote also amended Mauritania’s constitution to abolish the Senate, which functions as the upper house of parliament." This has been described as a massively cunning and sneaky move by the President(dictator) which used the vote as a means of propaganda. Voting to keep the Senate also meant voting against honoring the martyrs from the independence fight. While I do like the design a bit better with the two stripes, this makes New Zealand's recent referendum and the backlash against it look like a spitting contest compared to what's going on in Mauritania.
  17. I've also been noticing that the North American Soccer section needs a massive revamp. The USL logo still has the USL Pro shown. The PDL also has their older logo shown. There are teams in the USL section that don't exist like the Austin Aztex. I'm wondering if there could be use of a "Defunct League" section at this point for some of the sports, so there's a distinction between active leagues for all sports and those that have come and gone. Just with the soccer section alone, you have MLS next to the original NASL then the A-League with the newest incarnation of the NASL below it, coupled with USL First, USL, and the always fun USSF Div 2 Pro League. Maybe soccer could do with a pyramid style separation with "First Division" with MLS and Liga MX (which also is apparently using an outdated logo for the NA Soccer landing page) and the eventual CPL which looks like it'll be a Division 1 league but not MLS Division 1 (Canadian Soccer Pyramid is screwy), "Second Division" with the NASL, USL, Ascenso MX, etc etc and that could help apply to the other leagues around the world as well for soccer. I'm rambling now. Something to think about though
  18. Old: New: I really like this update. Doesn't change the original intent of the flag but also recognizes the Indigenous Population as well. Very smooth update IMO
  19. I have to argue against this one. While the DeLorean Motor Company itself went under and John DeLorean tarnished after he was acquitted from his drug charges, the cars the original company made are engrained in the popular psyche thanks to the popularity of Back to the Future.
