  1. There. FTFY. And he can. He just needs to buy a ticket. Vlad Guerrero has a .318 career batting average, 449 homers, 1,496 rbi, 2,590 hits an MVP and was named to nine All-Star teams. His Baseball Reference similarity score of 10 players lists four Hall of Famers, three HOF lock, two guys who are very close and one damn good player. He has an excellent shot to be in Cooperstown. The question is whether his plaque will the the Expos or the Angels. He made his name as an Expo, and had his best seasons there. He was feared by every pitcher in the NL East. Maybe it's east coast bias, but he kind of fell off the map once he left for LA (at least to me - a casual at best follower of MLB out side of my team. If someone is having a HOF career somewhere, even a casual fan would know all about him there.) I know what you mean, but in his years in LA, he finished first, third, ninth, third and 14th in the MVP balloting. His best years were actually there -- which surprised me, too.

  3. That image makes me feel all sad inside...I don't buy the whole "jingoistic" stuff. It's the US on Independence Day. It's a patriotic day. Not everything with the stars and stripes is jingoistic. Not everything patriotic is jingoistic. Jingoism has a bit of "in your face" about it. If you don't like the hats, that's fine. I'd like them to use a lighter shade of blue -- like the Cubs usually wear -- and not navy blue. But saluting the country on Independence Day is not jingoism.
  4. Loved the Mets and Pirates today in their Negro League throwbacks.
  5. You're going to beat up a guy for writing a blog post about his opinion on jerseys for a chatty, semi-serious website? Really? I don't think you need a degree from FIT to have an opinion of an ugly jersey.
  6. I missed the squirrel, too. Great touch! I don't think I've ever heard anyone call the Cardinals an unclassy organization. Quite the opposite, actually.
  7. I don't like nameplates, and I think the look HORRIBLE with pinstripes.
  8. The change involves the script on three of their jerseys. Which could only mean they're eliminating the black dropshadow on the pinstripes, the plain home and the road jerseys. Haleluiah! The 1962 script on the the jerseys was thinner than what they wear now, too. Maybe they're headed back that way a little, too.
  9. I like it! A little different, but I like it. There have been a string of decent All-Star Game logos.
  10. My link I had all kinds of fun on the blog with the Mercury Mets. We must embrace its awfulness!
  11. My link My blog, where this photo was taken from, discusses and I think solves the mystery of the mangled Rusty! Enjoy.
  12. I like the Marlins. Went to their first two games ever, Game 6 of the '97 series and one of the FanFests. My folks live in Jupiter, where they share the spring site with the Cardinals. The road jersey is a little dull. I liked the first version, with Florida spelled out in the arch and the fish. And I liked the teal caps and pinstripes, too. The owner is a bit of a doof, but that only means he fits in with most of the rest of the owners.
  13. It means "minions of the dark lord."
  14. The team announces: The Padres plan to break out their retro mustard-and-mud look for home Thursday afternoon games next season. Team president Tom Garfinkel said a fan vote on padres.com will determine whether the players wear their 1978 whites, ?78 browns or ?84 whites during the six scheduled Thursday day games at Petco Park. The ?78 whites have brown sleeves and yellow trim on white jerseys, with white pants. The ?78 browns have brown jerseys and white pants. The ?84 whites are similar to the ?78 whites but have a bit of orange and different lettering. Garfinkel also said Thursday games will feature organ music.
  15. I ran into Bud at a Brewers' game. He was sitting in a suite that runs along the back of the lower level. Would have been easy for him to stay out of sight in the glassed-in area, but he was out there in the seats along the aisle, chatting with anyone who wanted, signing autographs. Seemed like a nice person.
