  1. Heck, this series would be a hell of a pitch to redesigning most of the state's high school logos and conferences which are pretty non-existent or pretty bad.
  2. They're moving to Montreal, but they can't move with that lease right now so they have to float this idea in the interim. Plus, they want to make sure Montreal can get them a new ballpark and this gives MTL time to build it for them, and then they'll be gone for good in 2029 or earlier if they can negotiate out of that iron clad lease they've got down there. St. Pete is hilarious, they're sticking to it really hard without realizing or caring much about the fact that the team will surely be gone by the time that lease ends. Not that I blame them for not budging on building a new ballpark.
  3. The Avalanche were almost called the Colorado Xtreme. We'll see what they end up with. The whole not using Mets thing doesn't surprise me, but they'd better raise a banner for them anyway.
  4. Can't stand jerseys with no names on the back. Especially in football.
  5. Was rooting for that outcome. Too bad it didn't happen.
  6. In his last year in the majors (2000) Doc Gooden appeared in one game for the Houston Astros. To be fair, Barry Larkin isn't PLAYING for the Nats. I mean, hell. Joe Torre as a Yankee in that case? Don Mattingly as a Dodger (which I do think is kind of weird) I mean...it's different, but it's totally different than say, MJ in Wizards gear.
  7. I would love to see them in Montreal as Expos 2.0, but I doubt that'll happen. I'd also be over the moon to see them in Jersey, as a 3rd team but I doubt Sternberg wants to pay the Yanks damages a la Nats in D.C. to Baltimore. Omaha won't happen. Too small a market for 81 home dates.
  8. Given Bud Selig moved the Pilots to Milwaukee to BECOME the Brewers, this is just tonedeaf. Most informal votes are Thunderbirds or Metropolitans. I imagine that's the direction they go and in either case, that banner gets raised because a Cup is a Cup.
  9. It is better than bringing back the Metro. Reviving a dead league name is problematic, plus it'd be the same problem if they go out of region again (ECU isn't metro) or whatever. This name gives them the flexibility to do whatever they want and it's a nice trick to force people to start calling them the AAC and to get them confused. I like it.
  10. Not sure AAA baseball is really all that riveting, but that's as good a realignment as any I figure.
  11. The fact the major outlets are ignoring this should tell you everything you need to know. The Notre Dame move, the Rutgers/MD moves all happened fast but under cover of night and not with tweeters just throwing stuff on the wall in the hopes it sticks. But we're seeing lots of it.
  12. Not yet. But it's (obviously) out of circulation.
  13. Not dumb, but I don't agree. Hell aren't there teams in the past that used to do Division Championship rings? I'm all for celebrating if you win something.
  14. They'll manage to get that ballclub moved before long. No way those Wall Street dudes who bought the club are going to sit idle. They'll figure something out and they'll find a venue for them in the next 5 years one way or another. No doubt about it. They've made it a profitable club from the doldrums and if the people in that spring training town don't want them, they'll find a city that does. I just hope they do while the club is still good.
  15. Why would Wayne Gretzky in a Prince of Wales conference all-star jersey be wrong? Because he spent the bulk of his career in the Campbell Conference?
  16. I thought the Giants did a great job with that ring of theirs. It's gaudy like other ones, but manages to make it wearable in spite of the 'bling' factor.
  17. Love Kansas's banners. Simple and to the point. Think that's great.
  18. He also coached the Packers after that stint with the Eagles.
  19. I'm curious about this. How is the Big East Basketball Tourney going to work out, now? Top 3 teams get byes to the semifinals, other 14 teams play 13 round-robin games each to decide the #4 seed in the semis? Bonus points to anyone who can name all 17 Big East teams. I'm convinced at least 5 of those teams are just in the conference for the sake of having a large conference. They will add an 18th team by the time this is an issue and there is talk of divisional alignment finally once they do this. It's not that big a deal, pro league handle it fine...the Big East will find a way to make it work as their alignment is really just akin to a pro league setup at this point given the major markets they'll represented in.
  20. They are associate members in wrestling. This isn't unusual in Olympic sports and it doesn't have anything to do with anything. People miss the point when they try to understand the academic dynamics of these decisions. If you've never worked in the higher levels of university administration, it can be hard to wrap your mind around. But understand it as more corporate than anything else. It's not about wins and losses at the end of the day, it's about cache, competitiveness and associating with schools that you consider to be your peer. No respectable academic would consider Boise State on par with any of the schools in the Pac-12 and an upstart football program changes little. Yes. It's entirely worth the $$$$ to associate with the most powerful basketball league in the country rather than breaking off and forming the Little Sisters of the Poor with Notre Dame as an independent in football conference simply because we are catholic non-football playing schools conference. What would be better? Joining the Missouri Valley or the MAAC or America East or Atlantic 10 (with 14 teams)?
