  1. It might. This is a marriage of convenience for both sides: For Chicago State, it's a home after two years of wandering the wasteland that is being an Independent outside of football. This also means that the teams that do have homes as associate members now get a true home. For the NEC, it's a school that's already in Division I that can help them stay afloat as both Sacred Heart and Merrimack leave. It also gives them access to the Chicago media market (what little they can get from it, anyway). The wildcard in all this? Chicago State's plan to add football. By joining the NEC, Chicago State has a home for the planned football program they want to launch.
  2. All this talk about Florida State has me thinking... they need to be mad at Georgia for losing the SEC Championship Game. If it wasn't for the Bulldogs losing, they're more then likely in the playoff as you would have four unbeaten teams and a one loss Texas team as Big 12 Champion. Guess who gets hosed there? So, for all the talk of Florida State boycotting the game and stuff... I say nay. Go out there and beat the Bulldogs senseless. Make an example out of them and let the committee know that they screwed up.
  3. Congrats to Liberty on being the first member of Conference USA to reach the New Year's Six. I want to see if they can hold up against a Power 5 team like Oregon.
  4. The four teams are in... 1. Michigan 2. Washington 3. Texas 4. Alabama 5. Florida State 6. Georgia
  5. At this point, it's simple: Michigan, Washington, Florida State, Texas. Anything other then those four in the playoff is a failure.
  6. Good News: Seattle's offense did pretty damn well last night. DK Metcalf made fools out of the Dallas secondary (especially Bland, which surprised me since he's pretty good). Bad News: The defense couldn't stop a wet paper bag.
  7. I think it does. The Ohio Valley is doing the heavy lifting here and I get the feeling that the Big South might pull the plug on football so both Gardner-Webb and Charleston Southern join the Ohio Valley as affiliates. I mean, let's face it... Presbyterian isn't going back to the Big South for football anytime soon.

  9. The NJCAA has their playoffs set for next weekend. Saturday sees 4th ranked East Mississippi go north to play top ranked and top seed Hutchinson (KS). The other semifinal is on Sunday when 3rd ranked Kilgore (TX) goes to 2nd ranked Iowa Western. There are also three bowl games in NJCAA Division I Wool Bowl (Roswell, NM) - #7 Dodge City at #15 New Mexico Military C.H.A.M.P.S Heart of Texas Bowl (Commerce, TX) - #6 Copiah-Lincoln (MS) vs. #10 Navarro (TX) Game One Bowl (Cedar Falls, IA) - #5 Snow (UT) vs. #11 Iowa Central In NJCAA Division III, the championship game pits Rochester (MN) against the College of DuPage (IL) in a rematch of an earlier game that saw DuPage defeat Rochester.
  10. Time to recap... FCS Only two road teams won their games - Sacramento State and Chattanooga. Otherwise, it's all about the home teams. This includes Delaware making a big comeback to hold off Lafayette. Next Week - 2nd Round -Mercer at (1) South Dakota State -Youngstown State at (8) Villanova -Richmond at (5) Albany -Southern Illinois at (4) Idaho -Sacramento State at (3) South Dakota -North Dakota State at (6) Montana State -Chattanooga at (7) Furman -Delaware at (2) Montana Division II The top seeds had issues for the most part in the 2nd round as two of them - Tiffin and Benedict - were both knocked out while Harding held out by the skin of their teeth against Central Missouri. The only top seed to not have issues was Colorado School of Mines, who blasted Augustana. Next Week - Quarterfinals -(3) Kutztown at (4) Slippery Rock -(4) Lenoir-Rhyne at (3) Valdosta State -(2) Grand Valley State at (1) Harding -Central Washington at (1) Colorado School of Mines Division III One of the traditional powers got stunned as Mount Union fell to Alma, of all teams. The Scots scored all of their points in the 4th quarter to defeat the Purple Raiders Next Week - Quarterfinals -North Central (IL) at Wisconsin-La Crosse -Wisconsin-Whitewater at Wartburg -SUNY Cortland at Alma -Randolph-Macon at Johns Hopkins NAIA There were a couple of upsets as College of Idaho and St. Xavier both won their games. Outside of that, the higher seeds won. Next Week - Quarterfinals -(12) St. Xavier [IL] at (1) Northwestern [IA] -(6) Indiana Wesleyan at (4) Georgetown [KY] -(11) College of Idaho at (2) Grand View [IA] -(7) Bethel [TN] at (3) Keiser [FL]
  11. Exactly. It's more then likely they'll have to play SMU in the American Championship Game next weekend and if they falter, then either Toledo or Liberty could jump them and be the Group of Five rep in the New Year's Six.
  12. Last night went bad... If this is the best Seattle has to offer against that gauntlet, then it's going to be horrifically ugly by the time it ends after Philadelphia comes in.
  13. Detroit Dallas Seattle Miami Indianapolis New England Cincinnati Carolina Jacksonville New Orleans LA Rams Cleveland Philadelphia Kansas City Baltimore Minnesota
  14. It's time for the FCS Playoffs! 1st Round -Gardner-Webb at Mercer (Winner at #1 South Dakota State) -Duquesne at Youngstown State (Winner at #8 Villanova) -North Carolina Central at Richmond (Winner at #5 Albany) -Nicholls State at Southern Illinois (Winner at #4 Idaho) -Sacramento State at North Dakota (Winner at #3 South Dakota) -Drake at North Dakota State (Winner at #6 Montana State) -Chattanooga at Austin Peay (Winner at #7 Furman) -Lafayette at Delaware (Winner at #2 Montana)
  15. In NAIA, the First Round didn't see much in terms of upsets with Dickinson State being the only road team to win. Now, on to the 2nd Round... -(16) Dordt at (1) Northwestern (IA) -(14) Dickinson State at (2) Grand View -(13) St. Thomas (FL) at (3) Keiser -(15) Baker at (4) Georgetown (KY) -(12) St. Xavier (IL) at (5) Marian (IN) -(10) Morningside (IA) at (6) Indiana Wesleyan -(9) Evangel (MO) at (7) Bethel (TN) -(11) College of Idaho at (8) Montana Western
  16. Over in Division III, very few upsets happened... but there were four of them, though. The biggest being Grove City (undefeated this season and making their first ever playoff trip) scoring at the last seconds to beat Susquehanna. Now, for the 2nd Round games. Region #1 -Aurora at Wisconsin-La Crosse -Trinity (TX) at North Central Region #2 -Whitworth at Wartburg -Wheaton (IL) at Wisconsin-Whitewater Region #3 -Alma at Mount Union -Grove City at SUNY-Cortland Region #4 -Union at Johns Hopkins -Ithaca at Randolph-Macon
  17. A few notes here... Division II and III have the same formats from before: a 28 team field in Division II and a 32 team field in Division III. NAIA has expanded their field this season from 16 teams to 20 teams. They've also changed the rules for automatic bids - you just have to win your conference or division title to get in. They also seeded the top 12 teams in the field. Opening Round -St. Thomas (FL) at Reinhardt -Montana Tech at Dickinson State (ND) -Dordt (IA) at Ottawa (KS) -Baker (KS) at Louisiana Christian 'Potential' First Round -Opening Round Winner at (1) Northwestern (IA) -(9) Evangel at (8) Montana Western -(12) St. Xavier (IL) at (5) Marian (IN) -Opening Round Winner at (4) Georgetown (KY) -Opening Round Winner at (2) Grand View (IA) -(10) Morningside (IA) at (7) Bethel (TN) -Opening Round Winner at (3) Keiser (FL) -(11) College of Idaho at (6) Indiana Wesleyan

  19. Pittsburgh Miami Atlanta New Orleans LA Rams New England Seattle Tampa Bay Cleveland Indianapolis NY Giants Philadelphia Buffalo LA Chargers
  20. Buffalo NY Jets (Man, this is going to be a bad game...) Jacksonville Philadelphia Dallas Green Bay Atlanta Miami Indianapolis Houston Seattle San Francisco Kansas City Baltimore LA Chargers (Why is this the Sunday Night game?) Detroit
  21. Football wise, they'll probably stay in the NEC just to keep continuity within the conference in that sense. It's not above the NEC to have associate members for football (Duquesne comes to mind). If not, then there aren't many options for either school outside of the Big South-OVC Alliance. As for the who the NEC picks up? I'm looking at New Haven.
  22. Jacksonville Atlanta Las Vegas Cleveland Washington Baltimore Buffalo Seattle Pittsburgh Kansas City Green Bay Philadelphia San Francisco
  23. Man, Seattle was such dog crap in the red zone today. At least I can take solace in the Forty Whiners imploding like a supernova at the end of their game.
  24. Kansas City Baltimore Atlanta Minnesota Seattle San Francisco Miami Jacksonville (Remember, the Colts can't win there...) New Orleans Las Vegas LA Rams Philadelphia Tampa Bay Buffalo Dallas
