  1. That's going to be the plan as the ASUN is going to down to four football schools after 2024 when Kennesaw State leaves for Conference USA. The WAC is basically propping up the ASUN in this alliance.
  2. Kind of looks like Utah fleeced the Timberwolves on that trade... Anyway, am I the only one here peeved over Miami, a division winner, being in the freaking Play-In Round? They won their division, at least give them a top six seed as to make sure this doesn't happen again. Hell, make the division winners the top three seeds again. If that weak-ass division winner is as much of a fraud as people say they were, the sixth seeded team would make short work of them.
  3. Yay. It'll be nice to see the Kraken in the playoffs. Meanwhile, Boston now has 62 wins on the season, tying the record for most wins. They're also three points away from tying the 76-77 Canadians for the most points earned in a season. If they go at least 1-0-2, they'll break the record for points AND wins.
  4. Dallas missing the playoffs even with the reigning undisputed Cancer of the Year award winner is punishment enough. No need to throw salt on this wound.
  5. Ugh, slow starts suck. Then again, Seattle recovered from a 2-4 start to win 90 games and make the playoffs last season, so no panic here.
  6. I'll also throw in this for Cavemen SC: Grants Pass High School is known as the Cavemen.
  7. Quite the April Fool's joke they pulled... good job, Battlehawks.
  8. 1. I'm not sure, but when I did write it out... I didn't know the full story. The reality was that it was a confluence of events that lead to the closing: Operating costs, enrollment trends and a very sharp drop in philanthropic giving. The $12 million in federal COVID-19 relief funds was meant to help keep the school afloat for the time being... but the governor rejected the application. 2. There are reasons as to why a governor could accept or reject applications. In this case, Governor Reynolds had got in contact with a third party accounting firm to assess the situation and they found out that the school got a $26 million loan from the Department of Agriculture, with the school itself as collateral. It was also mentioned that while the school saw increased enrollment, their financial health was also getting worst.
  9. Iowa Wesleyan is another example of how the COVID-19 lock down and the aftermath from them have harmed these smaller schools. It also doesn't help that inflation has made it harder for kids to go to school and other things. What sealed their fate was the rejection of a request for $12 Million in federal funds by the state's governor, who seems hell bent on making Iowa into the 'Mississippi of the Midwest', but this isn't the place for that kind of conversation. In terms of conferences affected by this... the American Midwest will basically be where it is now because the move isn't happening at all now. On the other hand, the North Star gets hit *again* because Iowa Wesleyan was a football affiliate of theirs. Along with Presentation closing, the conference is now down to five football playing schools. I personally think that these schools should merge with the Frontier Conference for football. Now, yes, there are the outlier schools in Idaho, Oregon and Arizona that would make travel a little tricky for some of the schools (Waldorf being the biggest one of the North Star schools), but the schools in Montana and the Dakotas would love to see games between their schools.
  10. The ratings might not be as bad as you think. San Diego State-Florida Atlantic being the under card here makes for a compelling match-up: The Owls' sharp shooting from three point range against the battle tested Aztec D. Miami and UConn is the main event: The Huskies are the highest seeded team left and are also the only team here with a national championship under their belt. Miami is riding high after coming back to defeat Texas...
  11. Florida Atlantic's win makes them the first member of Conference USA to make the Final Four since 1977, when Charlotte did it (Of course, the 49ers were in the Sun Belt at that time). This is also huge for C-USA because all the money that FAU is getting by winning these games goes to the Owls and the other members of C-USA (which was something I was wondering about since FAU is leaving for the American next season - does C-USA get the money from FAU's showing or does that money go with them to the American?)
  12. Fixed it for you. Why? Screw Gonzaga, that's why.
  13. It wouldn't be a bad idea to keep their eyes peeled for schools in the region that are looking to make the jump to D-I. I know that Le Moyne and New Haven are the most likely targets for them since that would give them a nice round number (10) to work with.
  14. Yes it is and man, does it hurt for the NEC. To think, less then 24 hours ago, Fairleigh Dickinson was the toast of the college basketball world despite losing to Florida Atlantic. What this does is put the league down to eight members for the foreseeable future... which is not a bad thing, mind you. In Basketball, you get an 8 team league. Football still has their 8 teams (7 full members and Duquesne).
  15. To make this even better, not only is it the first time FDU won in the 1st Round of the tournament, it's also the first time a team from the Northeast Conference has won a 1st Round game. Before today, the NEC was, like, 0-31 in the 1st Round. FDU was 0-5 in the tournament themselves. In fact, I'm gonna say it - this is a far bigger upset then what UMBC did against Virginia five years ago. FDU was number 68 overall. They were the worst team according to the committee. Worst then a sub-.500 Texas Southern team. FDU wiped the floor with the Tigers on Wednesday to get to this game. Now? Well, the sky's the limit for them.
  16. Good riddance. Maybe it can find home on some dump heap of a streaming service like Rumble or something.
  17. The beef came from the fact that Grand Canyon was, at the time they became a Division I school, a for-profit school. They've since changed their tune on that and I think everyone is better off with that. As for the bracket itself... Woof. All the 5-12 games are scary this year. Don't be shocked if all four end up as upsets for the 12 seeds.
  18. Wait, they're still tossing lemons in DC after they got the Beer Snake back?
  19. What Hartford did was completely different. They're dropping down to Division III, where the costs are far, far smaller at that level. Not to mention that the *ludicrous* amount of schools in New England alone means that there's always competition for them to play against at that level. Also... Two years? Nah. That wouldn't work. Division II already has a three year period and many schools see Division II as best place for their programs. As of right now, there are seven schools in the transition process (D'Youville completes it this year; followed by the trio of Allen, Edward Waters and Emory & Henry; Then you have the trio of USC-Beaufort, Thomas More and Westmont) and six more schools (Jessup, Menlo, Middle Georgia State, Roosevelt, Sul Ross State and Talledega) looking into it. That's a little more then the 10 schools moving up to Division 1.
  20. The reason I've felt as to why they have the restriction in place is to make sure that schools don't take advantage of the money they could earn in D1 if they make the tournament and then just pull the plug on the plan and drop back down into D2. Also, schools making the jump to Division 1 have to make sure that they can reach the financial and academic goals set by the NCAA to become a D1 school. Not everyone can make it, but those who do are pretty happy.
  21. Out where I live, Winlock and Naselle are probably the worst offenders on this list. Winlock has the current Louisville Cardinals logo with a deeper red while Naselle uses a reversed Tennessee Titans logo with a 'C' in it instead of a 'T' The only other offender for out here is Wahkiakum. They use the mule logo from Central Missouri. Where I use to live (Iowa), the biggest offenders are Clarinda and Gildden-Ralston. Clarinda just outright uses the Arizona Cardinals' current logo and Glidden-Ralston is basically the Kansas State 'Powercat' logo. Some other offenders include... -Carroll, who managed to combine both the Wishbone 'C' and the Missouri logo into one -Coon Rapids-Bayard uses a logo from North Greenville, but I believe they got the okay for that one. -
  22. New Mexico State was having a rough go in WAC play and now, things have taken a very, VERY bad turn for them.
  23. It's not so much of a surprise as it is the owner telling him that he wasn't going to send him to the Lakers - a final middle finger to a player who has been a royal pain in the ass these last few seasons.
  24. Yeah... Arizona and Iowa (along with Green Bay and Quad City) are in the IFL while Orlando and Jacksonville (along with Albany) play in the NAL. I think that Orlando and Jacksonville would jump at the chance to compete in something a little better then a third tier rinky-dink league like the NAL if the Arena League came back. Arizona and Iowa? That might be a tougher sell since the IFL has become the de facto top league among the indoor leagues.
