  1. Team Canada 1988 Olympic jersey.
  2. Bandwagon/fair weather only really applies to sports that you like but don't actively follow most of the time. The only time you become active in viewing and support is when the team you like is winning. For example I watch the Hamilton Tiger-Cats regardless of wins and losses and always make a point to try to go to one game a year. The Toronto Blue Jays are a team I only watch when they are winning. So basically I haven't watched the team since '94 (Is Joe Carter still around?). Since most people root for teams they have no cultural affiliation with, switching rooting interests are not a problem. For example with hockey when I was younger, I was a fan of the New York Islanders. Years later it slowly changed to that of the Toronto Maple Leafs, mostly because Islander games in our area were rarely shown, while every Leaf game is televised (also the Leafs got nicer uniforms and acquired some great players I really liked.) It had really little to do with wins and losses and more to do with changes in taste. An acceptable evolution. Now changing rooting interest with a team you have cultural affiliation with simply makes you stinkin' traitor. The only time such a switch is acceptable is when you have moved to a new area with a different local team. Then you have the option of remaining loyal to your old home team or switching to your new home team. Of course there are those that go both-ways and root for both which often leads to the half and half jerseys of those that can't commit....
  3. You should have used this to illustrate your point... Well someone is going to default. I don't see how IceAz is going to be paying back Fortress and the NHL with the meager revenues they are receiving...
  4. Probably only through bankruptcy. IceArizona can can cancel the lease after five years and $50 million in losses. Which is funny consider their total equity is in the team is only $45 million....
  5. I don't see how zero isn't real world. During the ice storm, and our power went out, we exactly 0 Amps of electricity entering our house. When I eat up all my cookies, I have exactly 0 cookies, not 1 (perpetually renewing itself because zero isn't 'real world'), not some fraction of one, but zero, and I have to go out to buy more cookies...assuming I don't have zero dollars and zero litres of gas in my car...
  6. You want to know something really annoying? This team faux-Team Canada sweater from a Canadian Tire commercial is light-years better than the crap Canada will be sporting at the Olympics this year...
  7. Hmm. I would've thought it was "Charlotors". Shows what I know. Charlatans? Oooooo, they do a song that I absolutely love... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RJwW77Lsj8
  8. The Golden State Warriors and Denver Nuggets say otherwise. Er...no... In fact they are a prime example of uniforms that would be (and it pains me to say it) greatly improved if they just used a simple wordmark plate....
  9. I like how they put 'Buffalo' at the top just in case people didn't know that the animal in the logo is a Buffalo...
  10. Half a bee, philosophically, Must, ipso facto, half not be. But half the bee has got to be Vis a vis, its entity. D'you see? But can a bee be said to be Or not to be an entire bee When half the bee is not a bee Due to some ancient injury? La dee dee, one two three, Hugo the half a bee. A B C D E F G, Hugo the half a bee. Is this wretched demi-bee, Half-asleep upon my knee, Some freak from a menagerie? No! It's Hugo the half a bee! Fiddle de dum, Fiddle de dee, Hugo the half a bee. Ho ho ho, tee hee hee, Hugo the half a bee. I love this hive, employee-ee, Bisected accidentally, One summer afternoon by me, I love him carnally. He loves him carnally, Semi-carnally. The End Cyril Connolly? No, semi-carnally Oh Cyril Connoly
  11. Logos on the front of jerseys. Clearly a hockey only thing. The attempts to duplicate it in basketball and football produced some really horrible results.
  12. I probably shouldn't have read this thread before bedtime. Those uniforms are going to give me nightmares. And time hasn't dulled my utter hatred of the Canadian uniforms, and it's absolutely galling that I find them the worst of all the uniform designs...
  13. Just found out about the name change. It's all falling into place... Now Toronto can take the Bobcats, Los Angeles takes the Raptors, Minnesota takes the Lakers, Utah take the Timberwolves and New Orleans becomes the Jazz once more...
  14. are those banners up for Jays games? I was just up there last weekend and went to two games, and I didn't see the Argos banners. Up until a few years ago, they used to, but not anymore. I have no clue why they'd go to all that effort to put up/take down the banners before every home game. They hang a bit to the left if the Blue Jays' banners, so it's not like it obscures anyone's view or anything. My theory is that it's Roger's and they are evil....
  15. Hamilton played it's starters the first half and then went to second and third stringers in the second half. Tim Burke doesn't sound like he knows what he is doing. The first stringers are going into the season cold, the rookies have had their confidence stomped on and smashed to bits. They should've never have fired LaPolice...
  16. A final suicide move. It's interesting that long time Coyotes supporter Manny Martinez appears to have jumped ship leaving only two supporters of the deal...
  17. What is with these arbitrary made up numbers? You do realize that there are only 3 teams in the NHL that worth more that $400 million. A more rational number would be in the $200 million range for an expansion fee.
  18. Well it appears legit, the logo in part appears on the header of their website... However all their media releases are still using their old logo. Also, since this is very much sports related, shouldn't this be in the Sports Logos section?
  19. Now we're talking... ...throw in some hungry lions and now I might actually watch the NFL....
  20. 1967-1970 actually, but your point stands. That was pretty blatant, but I was mostly interested in how the term was applied to modern uniforms and trends in the NHL. Well I suspect the main reason most don't realize the connection is that the Leafs switched to a new uniform and logo the same season the Sabres entered the league, so it wasn't until recently the teams each wore the same template. Though I have no idea if the Leafs have ever worn their retro 3rds when they've played Buffalo. Still a lot of Buffalo fans demanded the return of those original uniforms and you don't hear the complaint of original six dress up with regards to the Sabres despite being the most blatant usage. I have no problem with it myself. Don't care. But my feeling is that most of the complaints come from those that want the uniforms of their teams to look a certain way and are having a tantrum when they don't get their way, and are trying any excuse to poke holes in it. I have a three year old, so I've see it before...
  21. I find it amusing that Buffalo Sabres uniforms are never mentioned despite the fact they are a direct and intentional copy of the Toronto Maple Leafs uniform from the 1969-70 season...
  22. Further proof that the Minnesota Wild should never use them ever again...
  23. I like the logo--it recognizes tradition and history. The logo is okay. The saw blade aspect of it seems to come out of nowhere unless one is familiar with the history of Ottawa. Though I suppose some might think it's a black sun (black hole? Yikes!) or a black tribble... It is certainly better than having a stand alone block letter as your logo....
