  1. I liked that guy Much better then "I....*choke* just love the fountains at Westgate *cry* so much!" Also Grandpa Simpson's up. Should be good. Are we seeing a case of life imitating The Simpsons? Why yes. Followed by yours truly. </shameless plug>
  2. I'm hoping that the league isn't bluffing Glendale--the Coyotes need to leave if nothing happens. But the league will have successfully ran out the clock if ice can't be put in Seattle. Quebec needs to be considered if Krypreos is right, but it simply makes too much sense for the NHL.
  3. They better hurry and get it built if they want the Coyotes. That is, if Bettman/NHL BoG hasn't already dropped everything they're doing in Seattle upon catching wind of this.
  4. As much as I glee in the hope that this Phoenix Coyotes saga is over and that Seattle may get an NHL team, the general ego of the NHL's owners and its commissioner once again manifest themselves. What's baffling is that a city whose first sports passion is hockey and has a ready arena with a brand-spanking new one to come (Quebec) is being put behind a North American city where football, baseball, and soccer come before hockey, while an arena in said city (Seattle) isn't such a sure thing. In terms of other arenas in the western US, moving the Coyotes to Portland or Salt Lake would make more sense, as the Rose Garden or The Building Formerly Known as the Delta Center are at least more equipped to house hockey.* *In other words, center ice is at the center of the arena, where at the Key, it isn't (as far as I'm aware). Admittedly, Key Arena does fit 15,000-ish as opposed to Energy Solutions Arena's 14,000 for hockey, if Wikipedia is to be trusted on the matter.
  5. That's pretty sad that the team is calling people who once lived there, but I agree, can't blame the sales rep.
  6. I'd like the Chargers' set much more (modernization and all) if the Spanos actually followed through on their promise to put the Bolts in powder blue full time. The outlines are OK on those. Instead, they apparently made an eleventh-hour decision to stick with their pet color navy and we got the green-outline compromise we have today.
  7. A bit late, but what about Utah Yeti or Golden Eagles? Pilots is good for Seattle and Royals fits Cincinatti.
  8. No pics, but the St. Louis (Football) Cardinals played the Indianapolis Colts in 1984: http://www.pro-footb...98409160clt.htm Also, Carolina Panthers vs. Tampa Bay Bucs (Creamsicle) circa mid-1990s: Though, with their now being in the same division, the Bucs wearing the Creamsicles at least once a year, and the Panthers' uniforms remaining virtually untouched, it's likely that we'll basically see this matchup once again. EDIT: Here's one from the last few years: What about the Rams' (virtually) current drab uniforms vs. the Bills' 2000s monstrosities, circa 2001-02? All right, no moves/rebrandings here, but still somewhat in topic.
  9. You know, this whole scenario seems to prove the existence of the Illuminati. I mean, how else does a team that's been hemmoraging money while being owned by its league for the better half of a decade manage to not leave town? Maybe Bettman's a member.
  10. That whole set would be bomb a$$ if the blue were swapped out for brown. Those are my thoughts on this as well. The Padres could've made a home set with a script like this, replaced blue with brown, added some orange trim, and BOOM! That's a turducken look that would fit the Padres for decades to come. /Frank Caliendo reference
  11. That seems to be the most "logical" "reason" why the league has fought tooth-and-nail to keep the Coyotes in Phoenix. I do, too. Nothing wrong with wanting to keep the team around so long as Glendale's taxpayers aren't the ones throwing money into a financial black hole. However, if no one wants to buy the team and take on the associated financial liabilities themselves, then it's time for Glendale to let go.
  12. I'm probably not the only one who thought of Newman's rant at the start of the Seinfeld finale when reading that post: A bit old of a post, but still. I really don't know how the Coyotes stay with a CoG council that's decidedly anti-throwing-public-funds-away. But the Coyotes have proven me (and most of us) wrong thus far...
  13. I've said it before and I'll say it again: The Saints' black-from-the-neck-down look would be 100 times better if they had those kind of stripes on their pants. That, or if they had a black version of their gold pants: Of course, I prefer the Gold/Black/Gold and Gold/White/Gold, but I wouldn't mind seeing that look from the Saints occasionally. Hopefully a couple of tweaks the Browns make under Haslam is that they bring back the orange pants and go with a matte orange helmet. With Nike's not-so-shiny pants material, that could make for a great combination. Think of a Brown/Orange version of Ohio University: With traditional Browns striping on the helmet and pants, of course. While I'm at it, here are a few things I wouldn't mind seeing more of in the NFL--Matte Helmets, Alternate Helmets (outside of throwbacks/fauxbacks), and Jaguars-like Flaked Helmets. I really wouldn't mind seeing just a little college-style mix-and-matching in the pros. Nothing like Oregon or half of FBS teams out there, of course, but something teams can do to have a little fun and spice up their sets from time to time. I can see the league allowing a second helmet option for teams to wear within 10 years. Teams can wear them up to, say, 2 to 4 times a year (ideally 2 home, 2 away). If that happens, I can see the Seahawks (gray), Jaguars (?), and Panthers (black) as the first teams having a non-throwback alternate helmet option.
  14. I believe they tried at one point, but the backlash forced them to rethink. I could've sworn that the Gold the Packers were considering was a lot lighter than this. However, this Gold wouldn't be bad for the Pack. While I'm at it, I'd say that the Saints would look absolutely great in this shade of Gold. If done right, it would be a very refreshing update/call-back to their original uniforms. Perhaps the Rams could go this way, despite where they'll be playing 4 years from now, or the 49ers could use this eventually.
  15. Reminds me of when Mayor Quimby and the Laramie cigarette officials dethroned Lisa as "Little Miss Springfield" because Homer wrote "OK" in an area on the registration form that said "Do not write in this space." They're now at the point of finding any and every excuse to keep their pet project alive.
  16. While I won't go as far as saying that these are the best Cavs unis ever, I like them better than the LeBron-era jerseys. The thing about the LeBron-era jerseys is that, while Wine/Metallic Gold was a good combo, it came across as dull. Then Navy began to encroach on the look more and more, and those Navy alternates, while from a design standpoint were quite cool, eventually were being worn much more than the regular Wines. Literally half of the league was wearing some sort of Blue*--why did the Cavs need to wonder that way, too? The Navy alts further washed out and dulled the Cavs' set. Now, the Athletic Gold pops more from the Wine, is truer to the franchise's original look while being different, and stands out from the rest of the league with no Navy on the uniforms. I'd like to see if some White could be added to the roads like Gold is on the homes, but they're fine as they are. Also, agreed on the parallel to the Brewers and Bengals...these will likely go someday for that very reason. *If anything, things have gotten more Blue across the league with Oklahoma City's Light Blue replacing Seattle's Green and Gold, even though the LeBron-era uniforms were worn a couple of years after the move. Also add Charlotte's shift away from Orange.
  17. ^^^ What's the thing that Glendale/Coyotes-supporters-regardless-of-any-consequence have against him? He even has a nickname of his own!
  18. Well, it's always an adventure to watch Joyce Clark's Twitter feed. Now she's playing the game of Blame Canada: How is she still in office?
  19. The image that came to my mind was the Futurama episode where Bender pawns off his body. The key differences here are that, first, he profited financially for it, and second, he got the body back in the end. I don't see Glendale making a profit over this or retaining their infrastructure anytime soon, should they be able to go through with this. Goldwater would have to be idiots to not do a single thing about this now--but I don't see that happening. How soon can these wackos be recalled?
  20. From the AP via Washington Post Could it be that the missing councilmember being homesick backfired on them? Granted, said missing councilmember was opposed IIRC, but you can never tell with Glendale AZ.
  21. what makes you say that? A little late to reply, but it may have been a bit an over-reaction of mine to the 2 or so posters that had acted like everything was sealed and delivered. This thing has lasted so long that I can't let my mood swing by every bit going on with Glendale, the Coyotes, and the NHL. That Goldwater-leaving-Glendale-alone was meant to be sarcastic. Continuting off the "Clown College" bit...this is fitting, too:
  22. So, it's over, right? Judging by the last couple reactions, sounds like Goldwater is leaving the CoG alone. No need to lose hope yet. The fight's just starting, and it looks to be one well worth watching.
  23. How the hell can they justify that? Property and sales tax hikes while they're pissing money away to a hockey team that shouldn't be there? Wonder how long the current council will be in place until they're voted out. I don't know, but...maybe until November? I thought I heard something along that timeline (general election and so on...).
  24. The Predators ownership did their best work in becoming profitable, by getting an additional break from the state the city did not know about after the city redid the arena lease. Well, that's a bummer. Gotta love lawyers and those that write these kinds of things. Guess it's now a lesser-of-two-evils kind of thing.
