Can you elaborate? There are details that they really get wrong (at least one Big A too many, the use of "Angels Baseball" on a picture of baseball, the halo should always be yellow/gold), and you can quibble over how much navy blue should be in the set, but overall, I think it's a pretty solid set. The flaws don't drag it down to the bottom tier.

They’re another red team. There is nothing unique or recognizable about their identity, nothing memorable about it, which I think explains some of the A” patches — a way to try to give something that’s dead, life.

And they need to put “Los Angeles” or “Anaheim” on their road jerseys.

  2. I really don't get all of the uproar about the Isles leaving Nassau. Sightlines issues aside, I think that moving to the city is the best possible thing for the franchise. Personally, I think it's something they should've always considered, rather than a last resort. New York is a busy place with no shortage of entertainment options in the city, and nobody is going to give a :censored: about you if you're all the way out on "Lawn Guyland". If they keep playing like they did this year, maybe the Isles will find their way out of irrelevance with the move to Brooklyn.

The thing is they were always Long Island's team. They didn't have to share it with NYC.

  3. I like these:

It's a downgrade from what they had pre-edge and nowhere near as good as they have now, but I liked the idea of an NHL team trying the collegiate route with their jerseys. Of course, they screwed up the home jersey when the Edge system first came out with too much black and not enough green, so that kinda made that set D.O.A. even with the alternate/eventual away to try and save things a bit.
I agree with all of this. I just don't think these unis deserve the universal condemnation they've received, and I thought they looked sharp.
  4. That's fantastic news. Wonder if the Avs slum it in Springfield for a year before setting up as the 6th Pacific team.

From some of the rumors earlier this year, I think Colorado will affiliate with San Antonio and then Florida will affiliate with Springfield.

    Didn't Florida affiliate with Portland?

Yes, and good riddance to the Yotes.

  5. I guess this applies now, unfortunately.

It would've always applied. He made his name and played his best with the Jets. Maybe if he stuck around and won a few more titles he'd be thought of as a Pat, but I think he was going to be remembered as a Jet anyway.

Still not as weird as this:

Very wrong number (also look how happy he is).

  6. Platini is worse than Blatter. He opposes the use of goal-line technology.

Yes, but at least he doesn't want players to die in the Qatari heat or completely :censored: the major leagues by hosting the World Cup in the middle of the summer.
Actually, Platini is one of the biggest supporters of the Qatar bid, while Sepp wanted to have the WC in the US.
    What.
Here's an article that cites it in passing, I couldn't find a better one

    http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/may/16/sepp-blatter-qatar-2022-world-cup-mistake

Well goddamn. The only way this doesn't happen is if Qatar sinks into the Persian gulf.

And even then they'd just move it to Bahrain.

  7. So, um, seriously.

What's stopping UEFA et al from setting up their own challenger to FIFA?

Platini is backing several candidates (including Luis Figo) to make a run for the FIFA presidency this year. The other candidates are the president of Ajax and a Jordanian prince.

The goal isn't to win (too many of the smaller confederations support Blatter), it's to eat away support and leave Platini eligible to run in a few years without having "previous loser" attached to him.

  8. Quebec City also offers a national francophone television contract like what the Canadiens have, revenues from a team-owned network (or a network-owned team), they'll be the anchor tenant in a new arena, and they'll be an eighth Canadian team just in time for the Canadian networks to re-up their TV deals.

They speak French, though! Fun fact: the penalty for "roughing" translates to Quebec French as "rudesse." You are sent to the box for rudeness. I love it. Hockey just sounds so right in French, I don't know what it is.

Watch this video for evidence, and for what I promise is all-time epic trolling at 2:00

I don't like Quebec French. The anti-French sentiment (people were jailed for speaking French in Quebec) following the British conquest of French North America really destroyed the beautiful sound of the language (as francophones altered the pronunciation of many words to sound more English), found in France.

Also, did I hear Clint Malarchuk's name? That guy is only famous for getting his throat cut the :censored: open and nearly dying during a Sabres game.

  9. I HATE the pinkwashing the NFL does.

Didn't look back to see if it's unpopular or if anyone else mentioned it, but most people around me hate hearing me say it. But it doesn't do a damn thing. Everyone is well aware of breast cancer, and it's just a money grab by the NFL as well as pandering to gain more women fans and I'm over it. A month of ruining NFL uniforms really irks me. Probably the only thing I agree with Paul Lukas on.

This is by no means unpopular.

  10. In other news, the Abbotsford Heat announced a $1.87M loss last season that the city of Abbotsford, population ~170,000, is on the hook for. That's about $11 per person.

Why is this team not Phoenix's farm club? They'd be perfect together.

    Because Maine.

I haven't been to a Portland Pirates game since the Coyotes became the parent club. I hate the Coyotes this much.

  11. This one I know is unpopular: the LeBron-era Cavaliers set wasn't all that good, and their current set is they best they've ever worn.

I liked the LeBron era set, but I like the current set better. The wine and athletic gold looks stunning.

Agreed. I consider the current Cavs uniforms to be one of the more underrated sets in the league.
