2023 NFL Regular Season Through Super Bowl LVIII
Lights Out replied to PittsburghSucks's topic in Sports In General
The whole "we don't fire coaches" shtick has always been silly since the Steelers haven't actually needed to fire anyone since Bill Austin. I think most other teams would have also kept Noll and Cowher around for a long time. Conversely, before Noll, when the Steelers were their era's version of the Browns/Lions/Jets, they were cycling through coaches every few years like anyone else. And as Cowher's players retired, Tomlin gradually became another Wayne Fontes who does just enough every season to avoid being fired - another situation that isn't unique to the Steelers by any means. -
2023 NFL Regular Season Through Super Bowl LVIII

The Steelers have seemingly had a knack for losing to the worst teams ever since that Raiders game in Cowher's last season where Ben threw two pick-sixes. As bad as the Patriots are, it didn't surprise me that they won last night. -

Sports Graphics Packages, Historically

The scorebug isn't necessarily bad, but that font has to change. I don't know what possessed them to use a near-unreadable ultra thin width font for things as important as the game clock and the team names. -
I don't think it's bad, but it does really need a logo or something to fill in that large red block in front.

They do Maine's football uniforms. Not sure if they're the supplier for anyone else right now. Years ago, they also did football uniforms for Wyoming and CMU.

I'm pretty sure the Bengals hand-painted their helmet stripes until recently, so there was already precedent for NFL teams doing the same.
-
Kansas, Duke, and San Jose State all had actual royal blue helmets by the '90s. When some of the worst college football programs in America were getting it right in an era before big-money apparel deals, the only explanation for NFL franchises not being able to do it is that they didn't care enough about how they looked.

The new color scheme is surprisingly nice, but the uniforms themselves are still too plain for my liking. I still truly believe they were on to something with the snakeskin pattern a few years ago and just needed to figure out a more tasteful way to incorporate it rather than getting rid of it altogether. Reverting back to the old D-snake is also an odd decision. I don't see what was so bad about the updated one.

MLB Stadium Saga: Oakland/Tampa Bay/Southside
Lights Out replied to So_Fla's topic in Sports In General
The A's will be a huge flop in Vegas just like the Chargers have been in LA. It was never the city that was the problem. It was the douchebag cheapskate owner, and he's moving with the team.- 3,702 replies

I agree, with the caveat that I wish they had orange jerseys and pants in the rotation too. I know some people like their current uniforms, but there's just too many things they get wrong with the stripes to make them better than the classics. It's like they went out of their way to avoid black stripes on an orange base.

You have a point, but the CavFanatic program started in 2008-09, which by that time there had already been special uniforms around the league for preseason games in Europe, "Latin Nights," St. Patrick's Day, etc.
-
They've tried brown pants occasionally since then.

I don't think they're lying about this. See: Jacksonville, Arizona, Miami, Atlanta - not to mention a lot of what they've done in other sports recently. If anything, they've gone too far with being reductive. But if the team doesn't want that approach, they have to try something else, like those ugly Commanders uniforms that Dan Snyder's wife insisted on.

There's been a noticeable difference in both the shape and width of the stripes and how thin the outlines are now ever since they changed from Ripon (or whoever their supplier was) to the standard Nike gear in 2019. This is also why the shoulder stripes look closer to UCLA stripes now and don't use dazzle fabric anymore, and why the TV numbers have shrunk to the point where they should probably get rid of them. Their uniforms just look a little worse all around than they used to. Unsurprisingly, it was their meddling owner who pushed for this shortly after buying the team: https://www.panthers.com/news/panthers-new-uniforms-2019-nike-vapor-untouchable

I think their current uniforms, despite being derivative of Oregon, are fine. More or less the best Adidas can do. The ones they replaced were awful, though. Just look at how they slapped the TV numbers on to accommodate those poorly-designed wing stripes.

They're just as bad as the Brady uniforms. They're the kind of uniforms you'd expect from Robert Morris or Samford, not the #2 NFL team on the Forbes list.
