  2. Saw this on an old (1916) college film. I've cleaned it up as best I could but taking it through Whatthefont didn't come up with anything.
  3. I've started doing more of the defunct NFL teams so I get to add to the thread. Here's the New York Bulldogs logo/graphic. Here's the update. Also, Ren, do you mind if I use your cleanup of the Brooklyn Dodgers logo? I don't know how it will look but it's one of the options of I was possibly thinking of using.
  4. Are you wanting more than this? You can put a seam in by copying it from another picture or drawing it in. If you just paste it you'll have the shadows, colors and what all from the first image. You can desaturate, use Multiply or what ever you need to clean it up.
  5. Do you have any examples of what you want to do? I'd like to say that you just draw them in or find a seam you want and paste it in. But you may have something different in mind (We're dealing with translating words and ideas)
  6. Post the image you want to make a mask of.
  7. It needed tags. BTW, great idea and execution on the thread.
  8. That does work. It seems to work better if that layer is more of a gray. According to Wikipedia, this is the math behind it. This is the difference. It works but I'm out of my league as far as being an expert at this point. I'm planning on add some bits to the template and this will be there.
  9. I'll have to give that a try.
  10. Copying a request from j26 over here: First bit, find the biggest image you can find. Google image search came up with these two. http://helmetgame.co...met-game-18.jpg http://hurricanespor.../img/wide/4.jpg Bigger is better because. You can do detailed work better then shrink it down to a presentation size. Also, pick one image and work on it. Make your mistakes and then learn for the next time. Give yourself time to think about what you want. Charles Shultz said that people would see him staring off in the distance and assume that he wasn't working so it was OK to come up and talk to him. What they didn't realize is when when he was staring off in the distance, he was thinking, and that was when he was doing his hardest work.
  11. The swoosh you just have to paint in underneath the "Leave alone" layers. For the gloves you'll have to mess with one of the "Leave alone" layers. Go to the group that's labeled "Leave alone" in the psd. One of the layers is labeled The Man. It's a copy of the image with the sections I want unchanged. It's in front so that all the changes happen behind/below it and don't affect it. Take the freeform selection tool and select the gloves and booties shoes. Copy and paste what you've selected and make sure it's lined up in the right spot. Go to Image> Adjustment>Hue/Saturation. What you're wanting to change is mostly red so instead of leaving it at "master" (which changes all colors) select Red and adjust away.
  12. Here's the other template. http://darth-brooks.deviantart.com/art/Doug-Martin-Template-450283476
  13. Well the sith lord is unemployed at the moment and looking for work. So if you know of any openings ...
  14. I probably need to explain what I meant by black and white masters. Most items that you look at will have shadows and reflected light. Take this Soccer ball for example. Even though it's a white ball, it's not a perfect white. The shadows and reflections give the ball it's shape. Same with a football helmet. If you try to just use either Multiply or darken or any single tool, you're not going to get a good image. Let's go with Multiply. We have a black set up for highlights (reflected light) and a white set up for shadows. Just using multiply white is ok but dull and the black is awful What about Screen (which we saw above is a better way to lighten a subject)? This time around the black is, well, it's there. Neither image is dark enough. Let's combine techniques. Now we have a nice solid looking image that runs the gamut of values from light to dark. It comes out feeling real rather than that puzzling "I know something's wrong but I can't figure it out" feeling. What you need to make is this: The helmet comes out like this: Instead of Look at the reflections on your helmet, the white is washed out into a light green rather than a proper highlight. Doing this will mean a consistent image no matter how light or dark the colors will be. Also, don't be afraid of painting in stuff. On the white I painted out a highlight because I knew the black would still have it.
  15. One thing is to desaturate the helmet and then make a white and black master with it. Basically, you're making one version of the uniform that looks like it would if it was black, and one (that you already have) of a white uni. The helmet should give you some flexibility because it's a gray value (it's not a strongly white or black helmet) so you should be able to get some highlights and some shadows out of it.
  16. Upload the picture you are wanting advice on.
  17. Download link. (yup, that's DOWNLOAD link, as in the download the template) http://darth-brooks.deviantart.com/art/DM-Template-Publish-447816664 The other one will uploaded after a bit. (The file needed to be fixed. The white layer was trashed somehow. It's all good now.)
  18. I'm getting there on the closer in Doug Martin image- I think I have the helmet somewhat figured out. One question is how big to make the file? The original is 4912 x 7360. That would be immense by the time I added in all the layers needed and would give the file sharing programs fits. 600 x 800 is probably smaller than most people want to play with. Somewhere in there's a happening medium.
  19. Would you be willing to post a sample psd? Neat effect and I wouldn't mind getting a copy of the brush for the stitching.
  20. The logo looks good but you might want to find more natural looking grass. That's actually really good. I had planned on going through the steps again on this image. First step, masked off areas I didn't want to change. Second began to erase/ cover areas with logos & numbers. Some of this was cloned from different areas, some painted in and some cloned from other images in the set. I worked big - this is the actual size. When it's shrunk down, the change allows you to work with details that would be hard to master if you worked actual size. Next I made white and black masters using Levels and Curves (again, experimenting) I had to desaturated the charcoal black. Even though it was a black it still had color. This is how it's organized. The unchanged parts first, then white (multiply) and Black (screen) followed by the uniform number and then colors, then the background. and this is how it looks in use. I still need to work on the helmet. It's tempting to either erase the helmet altogether or put one of the helmet templates in there. I should also make it so you can change the shoe & glove colors as well. I will be uploading it here when it's finished.
  21. Now comes the hard part and the stuff I'm experimenting with myself. You have to come up with a version of the uniform as if it was white and a version as if it was black. on my example I did this by adjusting levels. I don't know if it will work here, it might. You have three different colors (the Charcoal, the red and the orange) so you'll have to treat each of them separately. The red and orange will need to be desaturated (turned to a gray) first. Use your imagination. Look at it and try and work out what the uniform would look like if it was white. What would it look like if it was black? Look at the other images in the series to see how the Black & White areas differ. If someone is willing to jump in with a good tutorial for getting the needed adjustments, go for it. I've been working on a template (not this one. Something very 80's. I'll post up in when I have it ready) so I haven't gotten to the picture yet. I'm still experimenting. When I come up with a good idea I'll post it. Your welcome to try a bunch of things and see what works.
  22. For something like that you want to make it so you can shift around the uniform. Like on the old guy from page one, he stays the same as the uniform changes. The magic is making it so that you can change the colors and logos on the uniform while the player stays the same.
  23. If you're going to do something with it make sure to go where you can view all sizes - the original (and one you want to work with) is 7200 x 9600. I might work with this one myself http://www.flickr.com/photos/65516705@N00/12911844704/in/set-72157641816748303 With Doug Martins face visible it brings in personality to the image. The helmet is still visible, but in an unusual position for templates. It's straight on, as is the jersey, which will made replacing decals, numbers, etc easier.
