  1. I like the pants stripe on those uniforms. Only lasted a season or two though.

Patriots between 1990-2000 were like the Jaguars of the last few years with all the uniform changes. I think they had 5 different uniforms.

Does that mean like by 2020 the Jags will win like 3 of the 5 Super Bowls?

  2. Could we get a font made of those unused (or, if they're a hoax, "unused") Saints uniform numbers (the 1A variety)? They're actually pretty nice and I'd love to have them for concepts and such.

It looks like a font called Seabird that I used on my St Louis Stallions concept if its not the font its pretty close

  3. Not an unpopular opinion so much as an unusual one, but wide recievers wearing numbers 10, 12, and 16 look weird to me. None of the other numbers in the 10s do at this point, just those.

I know 12 and 16 are probably because I still think of them as quarterback numbers. 12 is the go-to number for "glamour" QBs (Namath, Brady, etc.); and 16 is what the Packers QB (Randy Wright) and the best QB in the NFL (Joe Montana wore) when I started watching football. But that still doesn't explain why 10 still looks odd to me on receivers.

Even weirder, receivers who wear single digits in preseason still look more "right" to me than those who wear 10, 12, or 16.

I am very similar except the only numbers I like for a WR is 11 & 18 in the tens. I do like single digits as well I believe it is from seeing them in college.

  4. I just thought of an unpopular opinion... I've personally never understood the visious hate everyone seems to have for the Tennessee Titans' primary logo. I don't think it's a great logo by any means, but it always seemed seviceable to me. If I was changing aspects of the Titans' uniform, I'd go after a few other things first.

    What am I missing?

I am in agreement with you never understood why people dont like it. It never made sense to me until someone said it was a shield (the flames always threw me off) then I thought it worked even more.

Also I have never liked the idea of the sword being on the helmet as it is just to long maybe if you turned it sideways it might look alright.

  5. Washington State has the worst logo in major Division 1 college athletics.

I have no idea how popular or unpopular that opinion is but I really, really don't like that logo. Is it the worst? I don't know, but it's close.

You don't like the cleverness of the logo?

I just like how most people think it's WSC and not WSU, and the thing is, when WSU was Washington State College, there was a WSC version of it.

    http://trademarks.wsu.edu/LogoHistory.html

It's not a great helmet logo. and I'm biased, but I don't think it's the worst logo in D1. The Cougars script was far better on the helmets.

I really like the logo & would not consider it anywhere near the bottom

  6. Just on a side note it would make things easier if the pictures at least would have the name.

If you can't recognize the player, you likely don't know who they are. And if you don't know who they are, how would being told their name make a difference?

sometimes I know the name but dont know the face especially in sports I do not follow that closely I just see them on SportsCenter but dont see them up close but here the name mentioned several times.

  7. if you don't know who pavel datsyuk is, then you should probably just skip over all hockey posts in this thread, rather than expect full biographies on why it is wrong. he's kind of a big deal.

that's his "wrong jersey" because he's wearing #56, likely as a rookie, rather than his usual 13.

I know that is what I do just skip all the hockey because unless they post a name I have no clue who they are.

Just on a side note it would make things easier if the pictures at least would have the name.

  8. The Jaguars helmet needs to be just one color.

    GOLD is that color.

    JTXDuC8.jpg

That's not an unpopular opinion at all, everyone hates the Jags' helmet.

I think it should be because there is very little gold anywhere else on the uniform & there is a lot of gold on the logo which I think from long distance you would lose some of the logo. Although that would not necessarily be a bad thing since it is not that good of a logo.

  9. ^^ I always liked that uniform as well just a great look for such bland colors.

In what world is that color scheme "bland".

Brown is very bland & the rest of the colors don't really pop out at you but as I said I like the colors maybe there is a another word I could have used.

However I agree with TheOldRoman the Orange kinda does nothing for look & could be dropped.

  10. If a mod could pin this, that'd be awesome :)

    Seconded.

The fact that a thread hasn't been pinned since 2010 is a bit concerning... I've reached out to several mods and haven't heard back. It'd be nice if we had a mod for (or at least a current mod that watched) the concepts section...

Whether the mods agree or disagree with this effort... this effort should at least be acknowledged.

I think we all agree that the concepts forum needs some changes.

The multitude of templates available, have made the forum better, but unfortunately worse at the same time.

It's much too easy to just re-colour a uniform or logo and throw it up...

And all new topics should have at least one piece of artwork completed before being allowed to start.

Good work flies off the first page much too quickly these days.

I hear some concerns from the old guard that there are no inaugural inductee threads before '07.

    There, of course, should be.

However this situation is quite understandable, when you realize that the members putting the effort into this topic have only been around since '08 at the earliest.

Perhaps if the old guard wants some old guard content, they should get involved and offer up some suggestions.

I also second GotPixels' suggestion that the concepts section needs some sub-sections.

The mods need to pin this thread, or acknowledge it, or send down a bolt of lightning or something, to let us know that suggestions and efforts to improve the Concepts Forum are, at least being heard.

I agree with this & would also love to see sub sections as I think it could help with the forum.

If Robbman has the time I think he would be an excellent choice for a mod if others do not have the time.

I would be willing to do the same if he can't. I do not spend as much time making concepts anymore but still like to admire those who do & check in frequently.

  11. Here's one that I'm sure won't go over too well:

I prefer alternates that are recolors over totally new designs (this does not apply towards baseball or soccer but certainly does for football, hockey, basketball, and other sports)

I kind of feel the same way. I think too much change in design dilutes the team identity.

I feel the same as well needs to be some continuity

  12. The Seahawks unis are gorgeous.

I don't think that's really an unpopular opinion. I like them too, but my beef with them is the color balance. If they wore the grey pants (with green feathers in the stripe) as the main option as well as switch to a grey helmet, they would look perfect.

The last thing the league needs is another grey helmet/grey pants team.

Also, while I think the grey pants are undoubtedly the best possible option with the white jersey, the home looks best with blue pants. Monochrome is basically Seattle's schtick, and I think their home unis pull it off. The grey pants + blue jersey just look off to me. Not sure why.

Is there a team in the NFL with a gray helmet and gray pants?

Do the Raiders & Buccaneers count?

I do not think the Bucs count.

You have a few if you count silver as gray

    Lions

    Raiders

    Panthers

    Patriots

Dallas should be but unfortunately they are not

  13. Those weren't really matte. They were more textured.

    Matte helmets always look terrible.

When it comes to uniform stuff, you have to be careful about avoiding broad strokes. Not all traditional looks are good, not all modern looks are bad, etc...

For this, however, I make an exception. Matte helmets look terrible. I have yet to see a matte design where I've gone "I'm sure glad they went with matte, this would look terrible with a standard gloss finish."

I've been saying this since the first time I saw a matte helmet on a sports team, which I think was Japanese baseball in the first World Baseball Classic. Not one has ever looked good. Not one has ever looked better than it otherwise would have with a gloss finish. I can't wait until they're no longer "kewl" and every college football team doesn't feel the need to have a matte alternate.

I thought the Vikings looked okay, but that helmet was far better when it was glossy. The problems they're having with the color discrepancies between the helmets and jerseys is another reason they shoulda stuck with the same lids they've been using.

I am in this camp as well no reason for them other than just to be different

  14. Most people think the Jaguars helmets should be solid black...I think they'd look great if it was all gold.

The logo would get lost in the gold

Maybe, maybe not. It'd be similar to the Texans. The Texans' logo doesn't get lost in the navy helmet, despite the logo being predominantly navy.

The Texans is half & half the logo would get lost with the Jags and there is hardly any gold in the rest of the uni so you would see gold helmet black jersey, pants, & socks ugh!

The Texans logo is not half & half, unless by "half & half" you really mean 70/30...

    570.gif

Anyway, gold helmets with black jerseys and black pants can work. The socks don't have to be all black, I mean they can add color to them if they want...

    183048.jpg

Yeah I was wrong but it is still a simple logo with thick lines which helps it show on the same color.

The Jags logo is anything but simple & the shape will get lost in one color.

This looks all right for a team that has been black & gold forever the Jags could only hope to look good.

This is still not the best Colorado can look.
