Not bad, but it could have been better.  Not sure why they stopped doing the conference logos in the end zones.  Also it's a little strange that the niners will be wearing a different helmet than the one in their end zone.  I know they've been doing that at Levi's Stadium, and 99% of the country won't notice anyways, but still to me it seems a little strange.

The first Super Bowl without the conference logos was SB 50. It didn't look bad during 50 and 51 with longer team names (Broncos, Panthers, Falcons, Patriots), but it just doesn't look right with these teams who have 5-6 word names (Eagles, Rams, Chiefs, 49ers). This field would look much better with the names in the center of the end zones and the conference logos on the right.

The plan since the beginning has had the AFC practicing at the Vikings’ Winter Park facility, with the NFC team at the University of Minnesota with the exception of a scenario in which the Vikings were in the game. In that scenario, the Vikings would remain in their home facility with the AFC team practicing at the University of Minnesota. All 12 playoff teams were given the plan in their NFL Playoffs Guide before the start of the postseason.

The NFC team always was designated to use the Vikings’ locker room and the Vikings’ sideline. The Vikings, though, will see some differences in their stadium, if they get there.

The AFC team, as the designated home team, will get the benefit of selecting its jersey color and has first choice of media availability session times during the week. The NFC team, as the visitor, will call the coin toss.

  3. End zones are opposite of Texans games and Super Bowl XXXVIII. Normally home team is at the bottom and road team is on top. Third straight SB on FOX that home team will be on top on TV.

Okay, updated field. Includes a darker gray, Falcons wordmark of normal dimensions (I thought they may have made it taller for some reason), and mathematically centered logos in the teamboxes. Also the color changes of course.

I'm also waiting on the wall banners, since they have not been put up yet.

Super Bowl XXXVI was the first post 9-11 Super Bowl, which is clearly reflected by the field and the changed Super Bowl logo. This was the first Super Bowl that I actually remember watching. I remember how it was a big deal for the Patriots to be introduced as a team, and how emotional a game it was with halftime and everything else.

Am I the only one posting on this thread who thinks the NFL and the Levi's Stadium grounds crew screwed up by not painting the AFC/NFC conference logos in the teams' end zones? Or was this just part of the end zone design? I really hate the paint job on the Super Bowl 50 field. At least the team logos/wordmarks are aligned properly, but IMO, this is an incomplete field w/o the conference logos.

Agreed. It just doesn't look right without them, and the end zones just don't look right with the team names not centered in the middle of the end zones.

I'm sure I'll be making updates to the Super Bowl logo, but I can do that when I do the full field with the teamboxes, but here is the field for Super Bowl 50.

It would have been nice to get Chiefs/Steelers-Vikings as an endzone combo, but it's nice to have some color in the Super Bowl logo again.

Field looks good but weird without the conference logos. Maybe they didn't put them in because they don't have any red and blue paint since the shield is in black and gold this year.

  7. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the NFC (and originally, the NFL) is the home team in all odd-numbered Super Bowls.

Which means the AFC will be the home team in SB 50. My question is: how does the NFL decide which end zone to color for which team? I can't see a pattern (e.g., home team always gets left end zone) that holds for all Super Bowls.

Just curious if there is a rule.

From Super Bowl's VII to XLV the home endzone always corresponded to the home sideline of the stadium. The problem occurred after Super Bowl XLV because the Cowboys home sideline is opposite of most stadiums, so the home endzone was moved to the opposite side. In Super Bowl XLVI they did the opposite of Super Bowl XLV and didn't base it on the sidelines, and they have been going opposite of the previous years endzones ever sense.

SB XLVIII was like SB XLV with the home sideline being the top sideline when it's watched on TV, since that's the home sideline for the Giants and Jets. I noticed the teams have run out of tunnels that are the same as their end zone. In SB's XLVII, XLVIII and XLIX. In XLV & XLVI, both teams entered on the right side which was colored for the "home team."

I'm still not used to it. I'm used to seeing the home end zone being on the left and the road end zone being on the right.

  8. I'm a Packers fan, so I just finished re-watching Super Bowl 32, as painful as it is to watch the 4th qtr of that game. But that field was really good aside from the numbers not being outlined. That was the beginning of the grass fields not being outlined anymore, which we've seen after the 2000 Ravens Giants game.

It's too bad the numbers don't outlined anymore. Like this year, red outlining on the Patriots side would look cool and then dark blue on the Seahawks side.

The old logos were so much better too. Here's the one thing I do like about the standard logo, the silver logo goes well on any team's uniform.

  9. 3 of the last 4 Super Bowl fields have been too blue and too bland! (Ravens vs. 49ers being the exception).

The thing that bothers me most is the plain-Jane 2 color end zones the last 2 years (no outlining of the lettering). Does anyone have an idea why?

p.s. - Im new to this site and new to this topic, but it's great to see there are others out there as passionate as I am about the Super Bowl field. (Maybe I'm not the only dork after all)

Jumping on this thread for the first time too. And just speechless with the Patriots not having a logo in their end zone, and the Seahawks end zone staying the same from last year. As a Packers fan, can't help but wonder if the NFC logo would be on the wrong side too, but maybe it's just the Seahawks because the league is too lazy to paint it differently.

At least the NFL shield is back to normal size.
