another thing of note is that the cavs are using the number font from their pre-nike jerseys :

Yeah, for whatever reason, the Cavs have stuck with the old number font on their practice and summer league uniforms the past few years. The old font isn’t great—and it especially clashes with the rest of the current look—but at least those numbers are more legible than the current font.

  2. One of the things that stood out to me in the 2020 redesign was the wonky serif on the bottom of the 7. I assumed it was a “Nike being Nike” thing, but apparently there was a historical precedent with the 1946 uniforms. *cue NBC’s “The More You Know” jingle*

    Worst Champions t-shirt ever?

I thought it was kinda odd for the design to put the focus on Milwaukee being 2x champions. Technically, it’s correct, of course, but the other title was 50 years ago.

    No, no, no.

This is about a thousands times better than the awful late 2000s set:

Yes, it's hokey that it doesn't say "Phoenix" or "Suns" anywhere. But still. It's aesthetically superior in every way.

If there was a purple or black stroke around the logo to help it stand out from the orange jersey, I wouldn’t mind this at all. Not a great primary, but as an alternate, it would be fine.

Making everyone wait another 19 days to see a uniform that already leaked? Seems like a waste of time.

Anyway I wonder if they intentionally tweaked this image to throw people off. The numbers look really bright, especially since they are going to be brown with an orange drop shadow.

That’s the current number font, not the more traditional block font that was on the throwback that leaked. Messing with the brightness and color levels, that looks like an orange alternate. Hmm…

  6. I don’t mind the Jets’ current set, but the football in the helmet logo just looks so out of place. Everything else in their current look is sleek and angular, and the football with its rounded edges looks bland and dated.

There was talk on reddit that all of this was orchestrated by Whitney Haslam, daughter of the owner, who felt like with them moving into a new stadium that they should have a new start with branding and a like for the team.

It’s amazing that after the disaster the Haslam family went through with their first Browns uniform redesign, they are literally stepping into the same mess with their soccer club a few years later. How do you make such an egregious error twice?

  8. The timeline is a little hazy, but a new logo and uniforms are on the way for the Cavs:

Separately, I’ve heard that the team is phasing out navy and going with wine/gold/black/white. This makes sense, as if you look closely, their primary court this season is limited to those colors (the drop shadow on the logo at center court is black instead of navy).

Interesting thing I've noticed from Cleveland spring training: no "Indians" on gear

They have been using their current road navy alternate that says "Cleveland" instead of the one that says "Indians" that they used last year. This jersey also does not have the spring training patch on the sleeve. This jersey along with the home hat was used in promotional photos that players have been posting.

Cleveland also removed "Indians" from their ST hat. Every single piece of gear in photos they have posted on their social media from ST says "Cleveland", even in the road script.

So is it possible that they are going with a soft retirement of the name this year? Electing to wear the navy road jersey for home games instead of the white or red jerseys that say "Indians"?

Definitely a lot more “Cleveland Baseball” merchandise this year, as well. That’s gotta be a tough sell. If you like the “Indians” name, you probably don’t want this. If you’re ready for the name change, anything you buy could be obsolete in a year because the team has made zero commitment to keeping the colors, Block C, etc.

Are any NFL games actually broadcast in 4K?

Fox did the Thursday night games in 4K through its app and a couple providers, but that was about it. Hopefully the other networks start to get on board soon.

  11. It’s been longer than I thought, but yes, number outlines (and even more so, color accents along the 20s and 50) used to be a thing.

    http://gridiron-uniforms.com/fields/controller/controller.php?action=super-bowls

Is it possible that we still get some extra pizzazz on this year’s field? Sure, but they’ve been rolling with this same drab template for 6 years now, so I wouldn’t bet on anything exciting.

  12. Between the off-centered end zone wordmarks and the lack of accents (outlines on the field numbers, 50-yard line, etc), this is the worst, most lifeless era of Super Bowl field designs ever. The fields now just look so unfinished.

As for the end zones, you’d have thought multiple appearances by teams with arched wordmarks (Patriots, Eagles) would hammer home how bad the off-center wordmarks are, but apparently not.

  13. Several teams are doing baseline ads like the Bulls. The Cavs and Warriors are two other examples.

Speaking of the Cavs, after doing mashups of different eras for the old “CavFanatic” uniforms and two city editions, it’s amusing that the whole league is apparently going to follow their lead for the 75th anniversary.
