  1. The hats are great (especially the navy one), but I always hated the beveled, partially arched wordmark. Beyond that, the cap W doesn't match the wordmark W. There still would have been a mismatch between the cap and uniform, just a different one than the one that actually occurred, EDIT -- The wordmark looks better in this image than it ever did on a jersey. Still not good . . . but at least passable.
  2. My goodness, the Ns on that logo. I always think of that logo as some guy from out in North Platte making his first business trip into the big city. . . . Omaha, here we come!
  3. Ren, I just wanted to let you know that I started using the Lafayette logo on a Lafayette message board and was told it is the . . . Best. Retro. Avatar. Ever.
  4. I have to say that I'm addicted to this thread as well. It's always fun to check out your latest update ren. Your work is stellar. ^^^ What he said.
  5. ^^^^^ That looks more like a black version of The Grinch than a panther.
  6. Ditto. That one is a beaut. When I was in college, I had a window sticker on my car of a sans serif L with "Lafayette" written on the vertical portion and a leopard in a similar pose (and wearing a sweater, if memory serves me). I have never been able to find that logo. Any chance you might have a copy floating around?
  7. This is fantastic work. Assuming the image isn't too small, could you do an update of this Lafayette logo? Thanks in advance. P.S. It's the least you could do since you did a Lehigh update.
  8. Put me in this category. The Orioles were in St. Pete when I was near Disney for spring break with the family this year. The drive to Tropicana Field was jussssst far enough to convince me not to make the trip. If the stadium was closer to Downtown Tampa, I probably would have gone to a game.
  9. The ACC had 8 teams during that period. FSU became the 9th team when it joined.
  10. It's really not all that surprising when you consider Marquette, Notre Dame, Xavier, Dayton and Saint Louis have all been Horizon League members at one point or another. Not two years before joining the Big East/Catholic 7 (at least that I can recall . . . but then I don't remember Notre Dame being in the MCC/Horizon League). It's not so much the path that is surprising as it is the speed with which they made the journey.
  11. It's amazing to think about how far Butler has come in the past five years. If this was all taking place before their Final Four runs, they may not have been on the Big East/Catholic 7's radar screen at all. A few years ago, they were stuck(?) in the Horizon League. Now they're joining forces with Georgetown, Villanova, Marquette and some other historic programs.
  12. I'd consider adding Army too. Adding the east coast service academies would keep some of the "prestige" associated with the top-level academic institutions in the ACC, plus would give a presence (though muted) in both the NYC and Washington/Baltimore area markets. Are you talking about adding Army and Navy in football only or in all sports? They could arguably compete in football and non-revenue sports. However, neither school has the facilities or potential talent level to be ACC-worthy in basketball. They each play in an arena that seats less than 6,000, with no nearby off-campus facility to use as a standby (a la Georgetown, Seton Hall or St. John's).
  13. Not at the upper reaches of Division I and they don't have a football team, but . . . Boston University is joining the Patriot League. No word on any other additions.
  14. Not true on either point in certain cases. While football controls the discussion in college athletics, men's basketball and academics both are a decent part of it for certain conferences (ACC for both, Big Ten for academics only, etc). Academics, pfft. You know, as much crap as SEC fans rightfully get for that S-E-C-S-E-C "I hope our rivals win because somehow it makes us better" chanting, the Big Ten is the most masturbatory conference in college sports. At least all that South-will-rise-again stuff terminates at the end of football season; Big Ten circle-jerking permeates every aspect of everything. F*** football, when's the next womens game in that sport? Arizona gymnastics meets begin on January 6th...... Will Monica Bisordi be making an appearance?
  15. I don't think it's that. I still follow ACC football (more or less) and I couldn't tell which teams are in which division.
  16. Sports Illustrated weighs in in this week's edition -- The Colossal Conference Grind-Up
  17. SEE BELOW. Why? Geography and college attendance.
  18. I stand corrected - I haven't read the autobiography for closing in on 20 years now. Maybe you should just stick to the USFL, Mister.
  19. I can believe that. However, there is one small flaw in the story -- EBW didn't own the Orioles in 1976. They were owned by Jerry Hoffberger, who sold them to EBW in 1979. From Wikipedia --
