  1. I like the thinking behind what you are trying to do with the GB and the union jack. I just wonder if it gets a little complicated. If there was a way to have both sides mirror each other, I think that might make it smoother to digest. But I know it would take some time to make the G and B work in that way. Even if you just had the union jack + the shield with GB sitting in the middle just on its own I think would be cleaner and still effective.

I’ve always wanted to see something lion related on the GB hats. Have you ever considered that as a direction? Potentially still incorporating the union jack. Just a thought.

  2. This is a nice direction. GB’s current road jersey is near laughable. This is such an improvement, nice work!

I agree with the comment on centre aligning the text on the road jersey. Wouldn’t mind seeing their lion logo on the hats as an option.

  3. I think if you are looking to update their current logo... you should try changing up the shape a little more. As mentioned above... maybe try a new direction. Different angle or something. Reinvent what their logo is.

Something that might help overall as well is to streamline your linework. There are a couple of spots where there are multiple angles but they aren't needed. For example in the beak.

On a sidenote, this vegas gold-navy version reminds me a lot of the Italian Olympic team logo.. it aint bad but would probably clash too much

I feel this one works best. Just my opinion. I feel the colours pop here more on the navy than over the lighter blue. Only thing I'd love to see is the stars without the inflating and maybe a tad smaller. Nice update overall!

I get what you're saying from a design aspect, but with both of these uniforms and your suggestions it feels like taking to city connections out of it. Without the TORONTO wordmark it's pretty much just a regular Leafs jersey and taking the Chinese New Year out of the Canucks uniform again takes the City Connection out of it. Doing that defeats the whole purpose of this series.  These aren't designed to be full time replacements; just specialty uniforms to be worn a couple times a year.

I hear ya, I just don't think the Leafs one is quite there yet. The rationale for the gradients doesn't really work... but maybe there is another way to do it including "toronto". For the Canucks, it's just not making sense to rely on a specific culture to use for a city jersey only because it's not inclusive. So it's even less about the city and more about one culture.

City jerseys also don't have to be super over the top.. they are meant to pay homage to the history of a franchise or a specific era. Like in basketball, they take cues from earlier jerseys. With the Leafs.. maybe there is a way to go back to a different era, and modernize it with a something related to "The 6ix" as Toronto is known. If you want to show multiculturalism... maybe it's not so obvious. Perhaps it's a sublimated map of the city... then you pay it off with a writeup or patch that talks to the multiculturalism of the city on the collar.

It's a great series... these were the two that stood out as needing to be pushed a bit IMO.
My two favourites from your series are Vegas and Winnipeg.

    Vancouver Canucks

I kind of cheated for the canucks, but it's such a great design and choice for Vancouver. I took their Chinese New Year jerseys they've done for the past few years and adapted it a bit. This is a nice choice because they can change it every year and build up to unveiling the new design each year once the new year happens. The collar reads The Couve, a given nickname to Vancouver.

With the Canucks... I think its tough to take a specific culture and create a city jersey out of it. Its kind of a one off thing. Sure, it can be celebrated by all... but likely just during a certain time. I think the colours might be an interesting throw back if you include some black. But might look good in the colours of the Pacific North West.... teals, greens, blues.

Maybe one way to take this is to incorporate the killer whale into this logo... but discard the reference to Chinese New Year.

    Toronto Maple Leafs

I took a couple of sources of inspiration for the Leafs. The main one is the TORONTO sign in Nathan Phillips Square. The colors in the letters are given a gradient to represent the different cultures in Toronto to represent the diversity of the city. T-French, O-Irish, R-Chinese, O-Mexican, N-Lebanese, T-Metis (Native), O-Japan. These were chosen as they are the most prominent cultures in Toronto. The collar reads Diversity Is Our Strength and the Promotional image is taken from The City of Toronto

Lots to like about a lot of these!

Just commenting on the Leafs one right now... I think the grad and the "TORONTO" kinda throw this one off. I think just keeping the simple retro Leaf is nice. Also, I get the angle you took with the reason for the gradients... however it's hard to go that route as you'll have folks feeling left out. Jersey designs need to be inclusive to all.

That said, if this didn't have the gradients and the TORONTO, I think you've got something.

  8. A series that I would love to finish was based off a concept from this years Logolympiad, the crossover. Taking NFL teams and turning them into MLB franchises. I have a few done already, but likely won't be able to tackle the rest until early next year.

In terms of a competition. I think a collaboration kind of thing could be really cool. Like maybe teams of 2 or 3 are created and a playoff grid of sorts is set up (almost NCAA tourney style). Each round would be a different creative challenge. The teams could be selected by random draw, or another way might be by city. So you could have team Calgary, team Denver, team Seattle etc.... based on where people are from. Each team could also design their own logo to go with their team name.

This might be way too complicated. To make something like this work a lot of planning would be involved, perhaps even a juding pannel would be required. But could be something to consider. Might be a good way for people on the boards to get to know one another as well.
