  1. I agree. I expect to see that spreading to other teams, too (like the gold-tinted jerseys for the banner-raising game, which is common in both the NBA and MLB now). Well you can't really do it for other sports because room becomes an issue. You can't put an entire NFL roster on a banner.
  2. I think the player names on the border is a nice touch.
  3. SNY would jump at the opportunity to have the Whalers. All they have from October to February is reruns of the Mets 1982 highlight film and Golden Gloves boxing matches and some stupid game show named Beer Money. MSG & MSG+ have all 3 NYC-Metro Area Teams and NESN has the Bruins for the uninitiated...also the MSG that the Sabres are on is the former EMPIRE network and does NOT appear on the MSG's in the NY Metro area.
  4. This is absurd, but TSN is once again getting everyone in a frenzy (though McKenzie DOES concede there are no plans): http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=381071
  5. Looks worse than Boston's record in the finals... Curious, do the refs of the SCF get one too? Don't quote me on this but I think officials get a special ring commemorating that they officiated the Super Bowl, Stanley Cup finals, World Series, etc. I'm pretty sure they get something. He was just blaming the officiating for his Canucks not showing up after Game 2...
  6. Perhaps you are unfamiliar with the use of sarcasm? I understand. I was just pointing out that there was at best 1/3 of the annouced addentee in the actual stadium. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt here and say that picture was taken during warmup, but there can't be more than 500 people in the seats right then. Unfortunately that pic is not from warm ups. Notice the position of the players on the ice, not to mention the refs. Sadly that is game action. If you zoom in you can see there's 17-someodd minutes to play in the first. Also the benches are full which wouldn't happen in warmups. Hello Les Nordiques.
  7. http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/sports/articles/2011/07/22/20110722phoenix-coyote-season-ticket-sales-up.html I know it's old but it's worth noting if nothing else:
  8. The people that had their intellectual property stolen. That's what pisses me off more than anything. Well, that and the fact that they look like poop.
  9. I had no idea he was a Flyer. Islanders and Rockies/Devils yes...but not Philly.
  10. I was at the knick game on Friday night. The "Sharp Dressed Fan of the Game" was proudly flaunting his Chinese Counterfeit John Starks jersey...
  11. Nothing can be as dumb as what the Mets do: Yes, that really does say "Wild Card & NLDS Winners". What a joke. Then again, that's the Mets for ya. Yes, that picture is from Shea, but they were all moved to the LF Wall at Citi Field. Of course they could add to this after another lovely season: And for years they've also flown their 4 World Champs/NL Pennants on a flagpole in addition to having them on the wall.
  12. I was certain the revival of this thread was going to include this: And I'm glad they went with 2009 not 2010. It's the 2009 season, even if the Super Bowl was played in 2010. I can't stand people not grasping the concept.
  13. So there's a new wrinkle to the MSG renovation plans. They're going to add "bridge seating" that will be suspended from the ceiling to hold up to 1,000 more fans. It's a great idea for almost any other arena, but it'll ruin the iconic "Fan Ceiling" that the Garden features.
  14. I LOVE it. That's an awesome jersey.
  15. It's not just the picture. It really does seem that small, and yes it does still somehow seat 18,200 officially for hockey. Also, there is this http://nymag.com/daily/sports/2010/01/where_is_the_original_1994_sta.html which details what happened to the original 1994 Stanley Cup Champions banner...
  16. After the 2010-2011 basketball/hockey seasons end they'll start their renovation in phases for a redone seating bowl, DESPERATELY needed wider concourses (they're woefully cramped and don't accommodate the intermission rush well at all), and a bunch of other fancy-schmancy renovations that will be completed so as to keep the arena functional for the Knicks and Rangers and other college basketball games and concerts, etc. There was talk of the Rangers and Knicks spending some time at the Meadowlands but they're going with the "Pardon Our Appearance" approach rather than just closing up shop for a year or so... Also, other than the 400 level, there is no tiered seating. It's one bowl that gradually rises, with 360 degree walkways around the seating bowl. The sideline seats in the back are further than the baseline seats on the same level. My Ranger seats are in the 300 level and there's only 6-7 rows before the back of the arena, whereas other sections go back over 20 rows. So there's that issue which I'd think can't be changed without a MAJOR reconstruction which isn't happening. You could technically walk up from the court/ice to the back row of the arena without missing a beat, though you'd have to climb over some non-structural railings that mainly serve to distinguish seating levels and act as a partition. I'm not sure how they'll redo the seating bowl though in this renovation...
  17. Yes, its on the 5th floor of the building. If you've ever been there your ticket has a tower in addition to a gate to let you know which tower contains the escalators closest to your gate. The press box is on the 9th floor. Of course the majority come from through the Penn Station and 34th Street Entrances so they use A & D and just walk around upstairs anyway... MSG also features it's famous fan roof and doesn't have "rafters" the way one would think of them in other arenas. It's more like just a ceiling...
  18. http://espn.go.com/blog/bigten/post/_/id/8261/time-is-right-to-explore-big-ten-expansion So while that's probably what they'd want to sell to us, it doesn't sound like a requirement...
  19. As is McGill...heck, the Blue Jays are in the American League...and Canada IS in North AMERICA so there ya go...
  20. Why don't the Blue Jays have an AL East Champs and AL Champs Banners for the years they won the World Series? Don't most teams have the banners for their division championships and League/Conference championships even when they win the Big Title? During the 1993 season, the Jays had a 1992 AL Champs banner that was light blue. Most teams I can think of off the top of my head go with the highest title won. I know the Braves have a Ring with all those years winning the East in one color, NL champs is in another color, and World Champs in yet another. I know the Mets go with the highest title won (you know, when they actually do win something once every decade or so)... ...of course they can put banners up for 2007, 08, and 09 like so:
  21. Don Beaupre...there's a name I never thought I'd see again... I know I have that Upper Deck Leafs card though...I wish I had a scanner, because I'm unemployed and after I take my CPA exam on Wednesday I'd love to go through my old hockey card drawer and share some of what I find... Now I'll probably just do that and withhold it.
