It's happened more than you might think. There was Eli Manning and Robert Griffin III both wearing number 10, Drew Brees and Tony Romo both wearing number 9, Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady both wearing number 12, and Philip Rivers and Brock Osweiler both wearing number 17. It might have been rarer before numbers were retired and teams weren't playing each other so frequently.

Ryan Tannehill and Philip Rivers who both wear number 17. It has happened in 2019 when Rivers was a Charger and when he was a Colt in 2020. The 2019 game was when Tannehill made his first start with the Titans after Tennessee benched Mariota.

Justin Herbert (Chargers) and Jimmy Garoppolo (49ers) who both wear 10, in 2022.

Rex Grossman and John Kitna who both wear number 8. Grossman the Bears and Kitna the Lions. They played each other in 2006. They did not play each other in the 2007 and 2008 games though.

There's more a lot more. You could do a thread that to list all the instances down.

The ideal AFC North/NFC South matchups for me would be:

BAL NO - hoping the Ravens at least wear purple pants this time

CLE TB - I've never seen the Bucs wear red against Cleveland, and this could be a prime time Baker revenge game

PIT ATL - Atlanta wore throwbacks in 2022, ideally would see the modern black on white this time (unlikely)

CIN CAR - I've never seen this matchup with the Panthers in black

  3. 17th games for 2024 that have been determined.

    CIN at CAR

    KC at SF

    LAC at ARZ

    TEN at WAS

The rest haven't been determined yet.

Winner of Broncos vs Raiders will get the Rams, and the loser gets the Seahawks. Either Buffalo or Miami will play at Detroit.  The Ravens will get either the Bucs or Saints on the road. I don't want to see Baltimore at New Orleans again, and I would love to see the uniform matchup in 2022 with the Ravens and Bucs again, so I want Tampa Bay to win the NFC South.

There are outcomes I want for teams to draw each other and have the uniform matchups I want to see.  What outcomes to do you want?

  4. Cowboys vs Dolphins was fantastic. The uniform matchup is good, and so was the game.

Miami has San Francisco next year. I want to see the Dolphins wear the aqua throwbacks against the 49ers just like in 2016. But the right circumstances have to be aligned for it to take position.

Is teams wearing all white at home near the time of Christmas a thing now? Minnesota first did it. Then Arizona and Miami started doing that this year.

Fantastic looking game, yes, but part of me wishes the Fins would’ve worn the white version of this throwback (they have that, right?) so we could see the Cowboys in blue and to continue the troll job of forcing them to wear the uniforms they hate.

Until this year, Carolina usually liked to wear white at home against Dallas regardless of the time of season. The Panthers play the Cowboys again next year.

It will depend on what the schedulers decide for next year. The last two years, 2022 and 2023, the schedulers have not been real pals. All the teams who could have made Dallas wear navy blue get their game against them scheduled late in the year. The ones who do are the usual suspects who you know are going to do the gimmick.

I can see the argument for bone pants against an opponent in yellow/athletic gold pants, but metallic gold?

    I'll take this

    Over this

Any day of the week (uniform matchup-wise, of course. That NFCCG loss was painful).

I like the Rams blue jersey with bone pants combo. Now that is an unpopular opinion.

BTW, maybe this is the year SF goes to the Super Bowl?

This idea imagines a world in which a team knows and/or cares what their opponent is wearing and makes decisions based on that knowledge.  In all my (way too many) years of paying attention to sports uniforms I’ve never seen the slightest piece of evidence that any team give two seconds thought to what the other guys are wearing.

It doesn't look like teams care or give mind about their opponents. But there are teams who do. The ones who do are outnumbered by the ones who don't.

We badly need a 1pm September Giants at Eagles game next season. At least the green jerseys were worn for that playoff game last season.

PHI wore the midnight green against the Giants in 2017. That game was in September.

This is going to be a brutal looking game with the Titans in all navy as well.

Maybe TEN wears the columbia blue pants. They did last year when playing Denver when the Broncos busted out navy pants to go with their white jersey. The Titans are one of the teams who are good about minimizing similar colors as the opponent. Except for one time when they played the Texans.

Disagree. Blue over yellow is how the Rams are supposed  to look.

Except if they play a team who also has yellow pants. In which case I prefer a contrast. And also an opponent who has gold pants. I think that's why LAR is going with the combo they chose when they host the Saints who might bust them out. I also didn't mind the Rams wearing blue over bone against the Commanders or some of the other opponents they've worn them against.

The NFL should change the seeding to top 7 by record regardless if you win your division or not.

I'm afraid it would be too much of a home field advantage for the stronger team. Let the stronger team prove they are stronger and superior by winning on the road.

Home teams winning most of the time also causes things to get boring. When you have teams who run the gauntlet through the road it makes things more interesting.

Bad game overall. Not much the Ravens could do when their opponent opts for a monochrome look completely devoid of any design elements.

I'm looking forward to the Ravens vs 49ers uniform matchup, which will be outstanding if Baltimore's white jersey with purple pants alongside with the 49ers' throwback red jersey with white pants comes to fruition. If saving the purple pants for the game at San Francisco meant that Baltimore uses the black pants for Jacksonville, I don't mind. Besides, the Ravens and Jaguars will likely meet again (AFC North team visits AFC South team) for the common place finisher in 2024. I hope that game isn't a 1:00 game in September.

  11. 4 NFL teams have scored exactly 63 points.

    - Chicago Cardinals beat New York Giants 63-35 in 1948

    -  49ers beat Brooklyn Dodgers 63-40 in 1948

    - Steelers beat New York Giants 63-7 in 1952

    - Raiders beat Chargers 63-21 in 2023

    https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/18iria7/the_raiders_are_the_sixth_team_in_nfl_history_to/

Raiders are the 6th team in NFL history to score 0 points and then score 50+ points.

Gridiron Uniform Database has the Cardinals in all white uniforms at home against the 49ers this Sunday if this is true  they are wearing white at home for the 1st time since 2009 against the Texans

It also won't be the first time SF wears their red jerseys at State Farm Stadium. The 49ers had to use the Cardinals' home venue because of the wildfire disaster during the 2020 season, playing home games there against Buffalo, Washington, and Seattle. This will be the 3rd time the 49ers wear the red jerseys at Glendale.

I like the slightly darker shade of the throwbacks. That along with old helmet >>> new helmet, old number font >>> new number font, and old stripes >>> new sleeve logo, means that I strongly prefer the throwbacks. I wouldn't say there's something "wrong" with the current look, it's a perfectly good uniform, it just has no chance when being compared to those throwbacks.

The current look, the regular aquas, are inferior to the aqua that was before it.

I'll take those over the current aqua, the regular ones.

Steelers to wear Color Rush Uniforms vs Patriots on Thrusday Night.

    https://www.steelers.com/news/steelers-to-wear-color-rush-uniforms-vs-ne

I thought they would wear those for the Titans. I think that's why Tennessee wore the columbia blue pants in that game weeks ago. Last time Pittsburgh beat New England was when they were in those uniforms.

I don't know what is worse, too much dark colors in the game, or the QBs both teams will have.

At this point I think it’s clear Arizona is committed to their atrocious mono combos for the foreseeable future. Maybe late next season they finally try something different.

Chargers in white pants is disappointing. Yellow pants should be an easy choice when the home team is in white helmets and pants.

Commanders again sticking with the mono combo. I don’t get it.

    What a missed opportunity.

The game still looks good, just not as good as if there were yellow pants.
