  1. I just feel like since the 2000s it's been "killing one trend to adopt another" for every brand. Minimalism is fine until it's striped of all its integrity. I understand we're in a digital age where branding exists beyond paper, but you still have to create a strong stamp (almost literally) as a business.

I like the updated 'H' but it's so boring by itself. Box it like '81-2000, update the 'Honda' font, splash some color. Boom, done. Then you have a "print" logo for and can use the stripped down 'H' logo for car hoods and digital advertising.

That being said, it's fine. The purple is great. Overall, a lateral move for me.

oh, i didn't pick up on your question. I only mentioned making the silver a little bluer.

No worries! Your above post that I liked answered my questions. Oh, and I just realized what the hanger effect said. Love it!

Forum blue IS purple, that's just the Kings' term for it

I'm aware, that's why I asked the question. OPs post never mentions "forum blue" only "blue." I was wondering if that was his inspiration.

  7. I'm a sucker for numbers inside of stripes, so initially I thought that the 2nd version looked better. But after staring at it for a while, I think that your first attempt at it balances out the jerseys a bit better.

Forum blue? It looks kinda purple to me, but, either way it's a nice, subtle change. The concept feels like an amalgamation of the Kings identity throughout the years, which I say as good thing. Speaking of, the addition of purple, (forum blue) in the sleeves and/or hem would do a great job of tying all eras of the Kings franchise together.

Funny timing. Just today, I decided the same. My work cafeteria recently started carrying Cherry Diet Pepsi so I gave it a try, and now this loyal Cherry Coke Zero drinker has officially switched teams.

As a full-time soda drinker who just made the switch to diet and "Zero" sodas, I agree that Cherry Pepsi Zero is better than the Coke variant. But I'm curious as to your sudden disdain for Cherry Coke Zero.

On topic, however, this is my pick for "Worst. Logo. Ever."

I hate it because it ended the best tradition in sports, paved the way to a "Standardized" Super Bowl logo, and it's just a plain ol' bad logo.

Not only is it simply unappealing and unbalanced, it's far from "timeless," as was the NFL's intent when they introduced this Standardized version SB logos. The gradients are horrible and literally suck and the font was DOA, by which I mean it looks like it belongs in 2006. For that to be your template and representation of the arguably world's biggest game, is a lazy attempt. Furthermore, shoehorning in the Lombardi trophy after 45 years makes no sense. We all know what the Lombardi looks like and it's not an appealing trophy like the Stanley Cup. Keeping on track with the title of the thread, I think the Simpsons said it best, "Why now, why not 20 years ago?" 2011 is a weird year to suddenly feature a boring-looking trophy in every SB logo.

This logo ended the days of "Super Bowl Logo Reveal Day" marked on every logo nerds calendar. It was something special that no other big sports league had. Also, if you were to point to any of the Super Bowl logos from XLV-XLIX and ask me what two teams played in the Big Game that year, I simply couldn't tell you. The past three have gotten better but 50 and the five logos following are arguably more unappealing. For Super Bowls LI-LV, the Lombardi creates this weird gap that makes the logos read as L I, L II, and L III, etc. Or, it creates this illusion where the trophy itself looks like it's supposed to be an 'I.'

As previously mentioned, the past three are better, but they're not necessarily good. They still carry two key elements of the template; the Lombardi and the weird 2006-esque font box. They did change the font but it's only slightly better. Besides, that doesn't really address the entire issue either. The issue is the whole "standardization" aspect: Lombardi in the middle and "Super Bowl" written in boring font. Oh, but make sure you put a nice box around "Super Bowl" and some gradients in it so it looks like a FOX Sports scorebug from the 2000s. Also, make the logo look as rectangularly boring as possible. No movement, no flow, no excitement, No Fun (League).

  11. I'm not saying that navy isn't more drab than royal, only that I liked the contrast a lot and thought it to be a really unique color scheme you don't really see much in sports. It's a shame really, because we have the technology to make metallic fabric and colors that match but the NFL, and in the Penguins' case the NHL, doesn't care. It's all about saving money. Besides, I know I'm in the minority when I say I like metallic gold over athletic gold. I'd love to see the Vikings try metallic gold and a dark purple like from the '70s.

I do not like those drab colors. They look better with royal blue and athletic gold. Those are St. Louis colors and should stay in St. Louis.

Those colors were only dull because they were in St. Louis and played in a sub-par dome with terrible lighting.  Plus, over the years the metallic gold slowly devolved into basically khaki.

I agree that the colors belong to St. Louis, but my homerism is deeply rooted; my late grandpa (who passed this July) and I had season tix from '98-'15. I remember when the uniforms premiered with the thick gold stripes down the end and the block font. I thought navy and gold were such a unique color scheme. The gold really did pop initially. As much as I'd hate to see L.A. use the color scheme, I can't help but to think what a navy on gold Rams uniform would look like under the Cali sun.

Hell, I'd be happy if they just fixed the damn helmet. The original horn was iconic and why it was ever even considered to be altered is beyond me.
