  1. I get what they were trying to do by placing blue in the logo as their school colors prior to the IU-PU split were blue and white. Now that they are solely part of the Purdue University system, their school colors are black and gold. Blue is not officially part of their scheme so this forced addition is even worse. They should have either left blue in the past or stuck with blue and white.
  2. I havent found a good photo yet, but from pictures I've seen on social media it appears that the Astros moved their division title pennants to the brick walls by the concourse entryways on the 300/400 level of the stadium.
  3. Unveiling miscues aside, the pennant is about what I expected. I would have preferred if they would have stuck with the cap logo on the pennant rather than the roundel primary logo. Perhaps the orange star didn't look right on a gold background.
  4. The Astros have removed all of the division title/wild card pennants from the left field light posts and have 2 pennants to unveil tonight. One will be for the 2017 World Series title and I assume the 2nd is the 2005 National League title. I wish they would keep the division titles up somewhere as it is no small feat to win your division in baseball. The 80's and 90's Astros should still be honored somehow in my opinion. It was even harder prior to the 90's when each league only had 2 divisions.
  5. The Astros presented Jose Altuve with a ring for winning the MLB battling title last year.
  6. I don't like it when you can see that much blank/black space on the side of a ring
  7. The fresno grizzlies are now affiliated with the Astros and will wear a tequila sunrise alternate this year. http://www.crawfishboxes.com/2015/1/27/7925807/astros-triple-a-affiliate-to-wear-tequila-sunrise-uniforms
  8. I believe the Dodgers are now part owners of the Oklahoma City club so it sort of makes sense why they are forcing their branding on the club despite the Dodgers name having almost zero positive effect in OKC
  9. The Rockets note when any of their players are in the HOF
  10. Rice University Conference USA Champions ring. It is Rice's first conference title since 1957.
  11. Its safe to say we're a bit desensitized to advertisements in Houston. The previous ownership could never pass an opportunity to make a buck. There is a freaking Conoco gas pump in left field tracking the total number of hr in park history. Or there's the Landry's Crawford Box to the left of the pump.
  12. The Astros banners were moved to the light post. Last year the "community leaders" ads blocked the view of downtown through the windows. The Astros got tired of hearing complaints and moved the ads to where the banners were.
  13. My favorite part of the Alabama ring is the 1 on the right side of the ring
  14. Here are some pics I took with my phone that show the new Astros pennants and retired numbers signage. Besides the color change, for their '04 and '05 flags the team removed the banners below those flags denoting that they won the wild card in both of those seasons. While making the playoffs is much more difficult in baseball than any of the other North American sports, there still is something odd about putting up a wild card champions banner so I am glad those are gone. Speaking of wildcard banners, did the Rangers and Braves put up flags denoting that they were "wild card champions" that lost their one playoff game last year? Did the Orioles put up a Wild Card pennant from last year too?
  15. The Houston Astros updated their championship flags and retired number signage this year to match the new/old color scheme. The metal flags are now Navy for division titles and Orange for their one league title. Sorry the pic doesn't focus on the flags. The retired numbers were changes from red to Navy with orange outline. I will get a pic of all the changes later in the year as my seats last night were up in the nosebleeds next to the big screen/retired numbers.
  16. I highly doubt it. As with most of college sports realignment, it has to do with TV dollars. The big conferences are adding schools that will increase a conference footprint and/or increase tv viewership. By adding UH, the Big 12 would have an additional school to split their revenue with while UH doesn't deliver a market that the Big 12 does not already cover. By adding TCU, you could say the Big 12 did just that. However, the Big 12 initially wanted nothing to do with TCU which is why they were set to go to the Big East. Once the Big 12 was on the verge of becoming an 8 member conference, their TV contracts could have been voided and negotiated at lower rates with their tv network carriers. The Big 12 had to add 2 schools to keep membership at 10 to keep their TV money. The Big 12's hope is for the ACC to further implode so that they can go after FSU and Clemson and pick up 4 more schools to be the 4th super conference. But until then, the Big 12 isnt in position to add anyone as their tv deal is one of the weaker ones of the "power conference."
  17. Seems appropriate for a school that features a dying athletic department
  18. Here are some of the rings from teams making it to last year's College World Series. In case any of yall are wondering why there are more than 2 teams shown, 8 teams make it to the CWS. South Carolina (National Champs) Vanderbilt Texas A&M Virginia
  19. 2011 Texas A&M Women's Basketball National Championship Ring. I haven't seen a pic of the other side of the ring yet.
