I'd imagine this is part of the current drama going on in the AHL in regards to Scott Howson.

And there is historic precedent for AHL teams that are independent of any NHL franchise, yes, it just hasn't happened in a while; not since early in the IceCats' first season of 94-95.

And that team was a disaster.  Which is why they don't try to have Indy teams anymore.

Nah, if you're gonna make any changes to the First Four, it should be to go the other way and make all four games between at-large teams, not conference champions. Two conference champions leave every year without playing in the actual tournament proper, and that's never sat well with me. The romanticism of the tournament isn't about a 16 vs. 16 matchup in Dayton, it's about getting the chance to play on Thursday or Friday, experience the environment, upset a 1-seed, etc. Everyone likes to talk about the positive of how it means two 16-seeds get to win a game in the tournament, but the downside of the two 16-seeds who are in the tournament but not really in the tournament is greater, IMO.

Restructure the tournament shares so going to the First Four isn't a financial benefit, and give every team that earned its way into the tournament an actual spot. (You'll also get the side effect of better matchups in Dayton.)

Less a tournament win and more an additional tournament "unit" to distribute around the league, which can help certain conferences that are on the poor side.

  3. Thanks for the congratulations everyone.  This was a really weird year; to be honest this season saw me see less NFL football on TV than I have in a long time because I'm down to watching the Rams on tape delay if they are on a national broadcast....and I decided a couple of years ago that I have earned the right to not watch them lose on tape delay.  That's not to say I didn't follow the league, just that I didn't see a whole lot of it on TV.  Also I want to say this year may have marked the first time I've won a week as well.

Anyway Super Bowl pick is Philadelphia.

  4. Personally I think we're doing a lot of concern trolling and bellyaching over 2 teams that honestly may be making early playoff exits because let's be real, this is very much a mental game and I think both Bills and Bengals are going to be too far inside their heads over everything in order for either of them to make the championship game round; they're gonna need an offseason and maybe a few (OK, more than a few) therapists to get everything back together.

What we really need is for the California schools that don't have football to suddenly have the reason to have football again.

Those schools decided they had no need or reason to pony up for 126-170 athletic scholarships in order to keep football going (gotta remember Title IX, so double the schollys), which given how bad the old Big West was, was probably correct.

Assuming Buffalo and KC win next week, either a tie or a no contest would provide KC the #1 seed, as KC would have a slightly higher win percentage (82% to 81.25%).

A tie or no contest would also give Cincinnati the division title, as even with a win next week, Baltimore wouldn't be able to catch Cincinnati on win percentage (68.75% to 64.7%).

So depends on your definition of "easiest." For schedule purposes? Yes, absolutely. But to allow home field advantages and playoff seeding to be determined competitively? No, there's no easy answer there.

So KC has a bye.  Small sample size so far and all that, but only 1 bye team out of 4 made the Super Bowl (and both bye teams got knocked out in the divisional round last year).   Such is life.

Whatever sympathy I have for the Ravens’ plight is quite tempered by the reality that they blew a 4th Quarter lead at home Sunday night; they did this to themselves.
