I get that the PAC-12 is trying to get into the Dallas market, but why go into a school that got the death penalty years ago?
Because that was nearly 40 years ago; everyone involved is long gone or dead or both.

Seems the Trojans can't be blocked from joing the Big 10... but UCLA might be blocked.
I'll believe it when I see it.

It actually has been mentioned as a potential temporary site. The capacity is still more than the A's draw now, so you probably wouldn't even need to increase it to be an improvement over the Coliseum. Not sure how scheduling would work with two teams playing there simultaneously, though.
Las Vegas AAA team would leave on the spot if an MLB team moved in. That scheduling problem wouldn't exist.

It could work for a handfull of games, like Montreal did in Puerto Rico. I guess if the Coyotes can do it in a 5,000 seat arena then the A's can do it at a 10,000 seat ballpark.
The Coyotes aren't supposed to be a moneymaker by design though. I don't think that's gonna fly in MLB.

That might be possible, if given the chance. But what if the MW somehow implode? Where would those remaining schools be heading to?

Hawaii plays in a temporary ~ 10,000 seat stadium and is one of the worst FBS teams this year. They play basketball in the Big West.
UNLV football has only been to two bowl games in the past 25 years and has never been ranked in the AP Poll. The basketball team hasn't been to a NCAA Tournament in 10 years and hasn't won a regular season conference title since 2000 or a conference tournament title since 2008.
I don't think either are the greatest additions, but the case could be made for UNLV based solely upon the Las Vegas market (which probably doesn't even care about UNLV sports, especially with every pro league moving there now). If I'm George Kliavkoff, I'm adding schools that bring in the most success and fan support, two things that the Pac-12 has lacked recently. Without a doubt the best three available options in the West are Boise State, Fresno State, and San Diego State. To get to 14 teams you then either dip into Texas and add SMU or you stay in the West and take a big chance on UNLV or maybe Colorado State. And all that's only if the current Pac-12 members realize they can't afford to be strict on academics anymore (highly unlikely).
Get New Mexico, they'll turn out for hoops at least and placate the academics.

It took me like a decade to make the connection of Mountain Dew/Sierra Mist. I think that's really the only thing it had going for it.

Look at some of the bottom tier dregs of FBS, the broke arse teams struggling as independents or the new Conference USA.
Those athletic departments and their associated academic institutions have far better academic and financial support than just about any SWAC or MEAC team could muster due to structural issues related to why those schools exist in the first place. No way in hell could they hack a jump up en masse; Florida A&M, which is probably one of the best off, tried for 1 season in 2003 and it ended in financial disaster.

Most of the NHL's other ownership groups loving having a team that brings down overall revenues and by extension the salary cap number?

Clearly the Jets and Sharks missed the memo on that.
I mean, San Jose's AHL team might as well not exist between not actually selling tickets and not actually really trying to win. They are space fillers intended to delude a corporate partner into thinking that it is people.

I'm pretty sure the other owners don't want to see a precedent set where the league can just relocate a team while there is still committed ownership that's in the process of getting a new area deal done. It's obviously not an ideal situation for anyone, but until the Tempe arena is officially dead the board isn't going to make any drastic decisions. They let the Sens play in an OHL arena for 4 years while they sorted out the Kanata arena situation.
The owners aren't committed to the market, they are committed to the gambling thing they can operate while having this team in the market.

Just abandoning trying to run the AHL team as a business I see. Alternatively is there any Alberta city of remotely suitable size that doesn't have a WHL team? Assuming a WHL team would kill an AHL team at the box office.
