  1. After watching Arizona earlier this week, I'm a huge fan of those uniforms. Enormous upgrade over what they've worn the last eight years or whatever. It was also really nice seeing a day game with the roof open there...can't imagine they get the chance to do that very often as the season progresses.

I just don't get how you build that uniform and NOT see the Blue Lives Matter flag. That's the very first thing that comes to mind in that "ViCtOrY StRiPeS" image they tweeted out.

I dunno man, I'm not gonna let a bunch of :censored:s ruin a black/blue/white color scheme that easily.

  3. That's a wrap on 2023!

Playoff winner: @waltere with a nearly flawless 12-1 record.

2023 champion: Maybe it's only appropriate an on-field dynasty is crowned in the same season @Dynasty wins the pick 'em league. Moved into first place in Week 9 and never surrendered the top spot from there. Give a silver to 2017 winner and 2020 runner-up @Walter Sobchak (has to be the most decorated player in the nine years I've run this competition) and bronzes each to @logo-maker and @waltere.

2024 will be my 10th season running this. Double digits! It's all come and gone so quickly.  Labor Day 2024, per my usual traditional thread opening precedence. See you guys then.

    Thanks for playing everybody.

This Stadium Series jersey somehow isn't even the lowest effort Islanders jersey of the last few years

    spacer.png

That was low effort as hell but. :censored:, at least they looked like the Islanders. I didn't mind those for that reason. I get it, those RR's were literally "swap the orange and white stripes from the mid-2000s", an untrained eye might not even notice the difference between those and the sweaters that Mark Parrish and Mariusz Czerkawski wore, but maybe that's the point...some of the RR's involved color swaps that simply didn't fit with the ethos of the original designs, they didn't make sense in that arrangement. The Lightning taking the OG storm jersey and giving it a white background was nonsensical because you don't picture storms occurring in bright surroundings. In this case, "less is more" and all that crap...it's obviously not lost on me that Lou Lamoriello has been in the Isles organization throughout these years.

On one hand, they’d have lost in the first round if Campbell wasn’t aggressive on fourth down calls and people only remember the times it backfires.  That said, those decisions really bit them in the ass tonight. But the dumbest decision, imo, was running on that third down and wasting a timeout.

I was more puzzled laying up for the field goal going into the half. 4th & 2.5 yards to the endzone...that screams "go for it" in Campbell-ese. "It was just a little too far"...bull :censored:

Having said that, there's making a decision and then there's the way the play works out...the first 4th down attempt that backfired - the first Reynolds drop - was a perfectly called and executed play, the receiver :censored:ing dropped it. Backbreaker. They never recovered from that.

Just a funny little anecdote for all of the rest of y'all: both Fiddy and I had a cousin on those Super Bowl teams, one on each team. Of course, for one of us those blood ties ain't mean jack, but both of us ended up celebrating after it was over (or rather, once we knew it was over for good...after one of those cousins ran back a pick-six to ice it.)

Yeah they kicked the everloving :censored: out of us in those first two matchups, and twice in the regular season, too. By the time the third one rolled around, I was actually feeling kind of depressed about it. It was the last game at the Vet, the Bucs had never won a playoff game in the road or in the cold, so I figured it was over. Then Brain Mitchell nearly housed the opening kickoff and I had to get up and take a walk. But they kept it close and Barber clinched it with the pick six.

Thats still my favorite ever Bucs game, and the only other time I thought they were for sure gonna get bounced and didn’t. Something about the Eagles, man.

As someone who also lived those early 2000s when the Eagles were the constant thorn in our side, imagine saying that we'd reach a point during our lifetimes where the Bucs have the better H2H playoff record.

I knew the Eagles were in freefall, I expected the Bucs to win last night, but even despite that I'm just shocked how easy that was. The Bucs leaving plays on the field is the only reason it was still a game at halftime, and it felt like the game was over after the safety. Once it got back to a two score margin, the Eagles had no response left.

Let me amend my statement to "I don't think many people watch Peacock outside of live sports or WWE."  Didn't realize the EPL, but yeah, that'd certainly draw subscribers.  I thought those were on ESPN+ or one of those other services.

ESPN+ has La Liga, the Bundesliga, the Eredivisie (Netherlands), the Belgian League, the 2nd division of English football, the FA Cup, and the English League Cup. (Fill me in if I'm missing something.)

    Peacock+ has Premier League.

Paramount+ has Serie A as well as Brazilian and Argentine football. (Their Serie A contract ends this season and I'm selfishly hoping ESPN+ gets it back, but I'm not holding my breath.)

Poor Ligue 1 is still stuck in the abyss of Bein Sport which absolutely nobody has.

I almost feel like this is a monopoly situation, but would this eventually lock NBC, Amazon, Fox and CBS out of games or just move people around from New York to Bristol?

The current NFL TV contract began this year and runs through 2033 so it's going to be a while before something like that can happen.

If he had any practical experience, his videos would be six minutes long and his subscriber base would probably double as a result.

Yeah that's the thing I see whenever one of his videos pop up on my recommended feed on YouTube. He's got some interesting ideas but he takes way too long to set up the point and it's 7 and a half minutes in and you're still waiting to get to the fireworks factory

Take this with a grain of salt, but I've heard before that there's incentive for YouTubers to post videos that go past the 10:00 mark. What that incentive is, I dunno, I haven't done content creation there (yet), but when you see guys like JG9 who absolutely spaces his videos out with unnecessary detail and whatever, just know that there's likely a specific reason for it.

(And whoever said JG9 videos have a pompous air to them - I think it was @Red Comet, you're absolutely right. There's a reason I stopped watching his channel.)

It's one of those things that the NFL seems to think is clever/traditional, when in reality it's just annoying.

There are other non-glamorous Wildcard slots if the league dislikes the Texans so much. Why not put them Sunday at 1 or on Monday night for a change? Instead it's the least appealing game of the weekend on Monday and the second straight year Tampa is hosting that one.

And trust me, after last year where our wet fart of a season ended with a wet fart of a game in the playoffs, absolutely none of us are happy that we got the Monday game once again. Give us literally any other time slot, I don't care, but this one wasn't it. I would've been thrilled with a repeat of 2021 and playing the Eagles at 1:00 on Sunday.
