That WOULD be true if the Broncos hadn't won the Superb Bowl that year, breaking the 13-year AFC curse.  That's what likely led to the flurry of sidestripes, piping, unitards, shoehorning navy blue/black onto uniforms, and other uniform atrocities:

    Patriots 2000

    Bills 2002

    Seahawks 2002

    Falcons 2003

    Cardinals 2005

    Vikings 2006

    Jaguars 2009

    Seahawks 2012

    Jaguars 2013

    Buccaneers 2014

    Browns 2015

    Titans 2018

    Falcons 2020

Perhaps if the Packers had won the game 34-6 like many predicted, that would have been the demise of those ugly trends, but Terrell Davis wore Gilbert Brown out by always running sweeps.

That's a different thread(ugliest uniforms won  championships in). Of the 13 teams you listed, Only the Pats, Bucs and Seahawks WON a SuperBowl in them and even though I liked the creamsicles, the 1997 Buccaneers looked "normal" without all the piping, striping, weird number fonts. All I'm sayin is when I first saw those Bronco uniforms,  I thought they were  overdone . As history has shown us, after 1997, we've seen some of the ugliest uniforms in NFL history, especially the one you listed, the 2002 Bills, and look how many teams changed since then compared to pre 1997.

It’s pretty bothersome when you realize a good 7 or so of those teams shouldn’t be wearing black at all, in any capacity, let alone in the playoffs.

Black makes sense for Miami and Brooklyn. I’m also okay with Atlanta, Sacramento, and Phoenix wearing it sparingly in the playoffs due to some historical precedence, though with Phoenix especially my preference would be purple.

Memphis, Milwaukee, Boston, Golden State, Cleveland, New York, and LA Clippers are showing up to the wrong party here. They shouldn’t be in black whatsoever.

Great post!! I'm a Knick fan and the Celtics in black is crime against humanity.

Agree.  The XFL 2.0 version of the Renegades helmet was far superior to the 2023 version.  Dwayne Johnson should be slapped for letting this Renegades helmet on the field.

Still, this wouldn't look nearly as good in the NFL with the ban on Black helmet hardware, and it also would destroy the Panthers' best look, which is this:

Panthers got it right the first time.

I think the years were in reference to a Cup or at least a Cup final appearance in most cases

Mostly agree as both teams look great but I am the only one who misses the yellow numbers?

I almost made a similar post recently about numbers of colors and how it correlates to a clean look, but could articulate it right. You are spot on though. The Blues are a strange one because having multiple blues fits the team name while also differentiating them from the league a bit.

Also, it was great timing as last night, my Blues were playing the Flames. If you didn't see that game, the uniform matchup was superb. Neither team should change a thing. Gorgeous.

Glad I was able to spit this out correctly. Always hated the 3 OR 4 color mashup.  Again, some 3 colors can go fine together but not many in my opinion. PlayGloria, whenever I see  80s flames and Blues(w/o the red), it is absolutely gorgeous to watch. Good catch.

The Twins gray road jersey is my favorite of their current/outgoing set, so I wanted to bring that design over as much as possible while making it consistent with the rest of the set.

I wouldn’t mind if a team went to powder blue as their full-time road look (looking at the Rays and/or Royals), but I don’t know if the Twins are that team. It just feels like too bold of a move for them, if that makes sense. Moreover, making powder blue the full-time road jersey would almost necessitate using the “Minnesota” script with it, but I prefer the “Twins” script with the powder blue, for whatever reason.

GREAT JOB ON THIS THREAD ALL AROUND!!!!

Doesn't match the descriptions we've heard so far, and the lack of teeth feels weird. But I don't hate it.

I'm hearing Fisherman WITHOUT teal so this might make sense.

Arizona looked like the Ghost of Falcons Past yesterday

The last time I looked, the cardinal was a red bird so why they're not wearing red lids with those already hideous uniforms baffles me.🙃

    So about that.

Best can have different meanings depending on the context. For example, your best suit might be black but that's not going to the best look if you have to go to court. It will definitely look off if instead of going to court, you go camping. Similarly, context matters for uniforms.

Take for example the Los Angeles Chargers.

IMO their best look is the powder blue jersey over gold pants. I think its top 5 in all of football. We can debate that but this is my opinion.

    TIght-ends-scaled.jpeg

However, would that pairing be ideal on a day the Green Bay Packers or Pittsburgh Steelers come to town? Those teams sole road uniforms look like this and this:

    USATSI_16929532-1.jpg?w=1000&h=600&crop=

So on that occasion, to avoid an all yellow pants affair, the Chargers would be better off, and look better aesthetically, by wearing their white pants. Not their best look but the best for the situation:

An alternate or throwback can give a team the opportunity to wear something that fits the opponent a little better.

To give another example, I confess my own bias but I adore the Chicago Bears navy blue over white home uniform. A. D. O. R. E. it. I think its THE best in football. (Long standing, capital S, SUFFERING Bears fan that I am).

    However, I admit that this:

    usatsi_13579426.jpg?w=1000&h=600&crop=1

    Looked better than this:

    6376146311_f69f277fa1_b.jpg

Context matters and alternates make for opportunities. Teams don't always take proper advantage but at least the option is there.

No doubt the best uniforms in the league. Love this combo but also looks good with white pants. Same goes for the white jersey. The Color Rush and navy just get rid of.

Make the Dr. J one their home jersey and the Drazen one their away jersey and toss the rest.

Been in Brooklyn 10 years and they have 18 jerseys up on that wall(not counting 2 for Christmas Day), way to go NBA with letting teams have identities.

We need a hard-reset year of no alternates where everyone just wears white at home and dark on the road, as the NHL did in '08 and '18 with the supplier switches. Give people a chance to miss some stuff; I can't believe the drive to consume product is that high that they can't stop.

Quite possibly one of the best posts of all time. I hardly visit the site because of the leagues just destroying what uniforms are about, identities.

It's official. All non-throwback alternate helmets suck.  All of them. And getting to see a small handful of decent throwbacks was 1000% not worth all the complete garbage that's going to come along with it.

I'm reading the comments on the team's social media posts. A lot of fans love the dynasty look. But there's more than a few who also like the orange and the updated darker colors.

It's not close to unanimous. When the nostalgia phase runs out, maybe that's why they keep changing to something new. People want to buy new stuff. I guess no more sea of orange, assuming they make the playoffs next year.

Bottom line is some teams love to keep their identities or looks that goes to the team's successful period. The Habs, Leafs, Blackhawks, Bruins(a few tweeks), Rangers, Islanders, Devils, Flyers, Senators, Flames, Penguins, Oilers, Coyotes, Red Wings are all teams that went back and for the most part will stay with their identity.  That's a lot of teams that have gone back or never waivered from their original look. As far as buying new stuff, I'd rather teams keep their identities than the cash grab that Nike or Adidas does.

The Oilers news is both good news and hilarious. It's the right move to go back to the 80's look, again, of course, but it's so funny that they keep having to relearn that lesson.

Along with the Islanders, Flames, Blues, Flyers, Avalanche, Senators, Coyotes, Penguins, Original 6, MOST of these teams have learned the right lesson by having an all -time throwback identity. Now, if the damn Sharks would go back to 91 and the Kings go back to Yellow and Purple, things would be be just about perfect. MLB looking the best a league has looked in it's entirety in  a long time.
