  1. I don't think this would ever work for any of the established US major leagues. Too many factors working against it. A startup league, on the other hand....
  2. I completely forgot about doing this again this year. Oops.
  3. I know there's a preference for soccer-only stadiums, but... I was in Nashville last weekend for the Man City v Spurs friendly and thought that Nissan Stadium was a great venue. I don't see why a Nashville team couldn't call that home, at least in the short term.
  4. Yesterday, NCFC released plans for a potential downtown Raleigh stadium, as part of their MLS bid. http://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/counties/wake-county/article162561493.html
  5. Anyone here going to any of the International Champions Cup games? I'm interested in seeing either City vs Man U at Houston, or City vs Spurs in Nashville. http://www.internationalchampionscup.com/territories/us
  6. Hate is pretty strong. I can't think of a sport I'd like to eradicate like it's cancer or genocide or something. At best, there are sports for which I have complete indifference, and you'd have a difficult time even paying me to watch. Among the majors, basketball. In general, though, I'm not a fan of sports with subjective scoring, or that lack head-to-head competition.
  7. Not so much at the team level... but I've shifted allegiance to sports over time. MLB has almost completely fallen off my radar (I was a Giants fan in my younger days), while soccer has emerged as my #2 behind hockey over the past few years. I say MLB specifically, because I still enjoy attending minor league games.
  8. *pushes stack of chips into the pot* Ok then, let's make this interesting, boys. Pats Falcons If I'm right, I win this thing outright this afternoon. Wrong, and it comes down to the Super Bowl... but the Packers will be in it, so that's even better.
  9. Just announced. Both are provisionally D2
  10. That would make a great slogan if the MLS expansion bid fails and they try to buy NYCFC instead.
  11. Local media here is reporting that the North Carolina FC ownership is going to announce on Monday that they've bought the WNY Flash and they will play the next NWSL season in Raleigh.
  12. I'm going to have to go with April 10, 1993, the only time I've attended a championship final. The Buffalo Bandits capped a perfect MILL season with a home win over Philadelphia.

  17. I was never a fan of the Railhawks name, but there are so many better opportunities to rebrand to a more traditional soccer name that's fitting of this area than NC FC.
  18. Following the news on Twitter as it unfolds. Leaked yesterday that Railhawks are becoming North Carolina FC: http://www.northcarolinafc.com/ Key points so far: pursuing an MLS franchise, an NWSL team and a new stadium. I'm reserving judgement on the rebranding, but eager to support the rest of the efforts.
  19. http://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/news/2016/12/02/railhawks-to-change-name-pursue-major-league.html I'll be following this news closely on Tuesday. Railhawks are announcing a name change and intent to pursue a jump to MLS. They'd need a larger stadium, too. It'll be intetesting to see how this plays out, but it doesn't bode well for NASL.

  21. Update: let's go ahead and put me squarely in the Man City camp. I tried giving everyone a good look this season, but City has been the one team I've most looked forward to watching each week.
