I agree with this, but I'd reverse what I tolerate. I dislike the yellow pants with the white jerseys, but I think they look particularly bad with the red jerseys. Maybe not "bad" as much as "not right." It might be partly because growing up, the Redskins' red jerseys only appeared thrice a year if you were lucky. And it was always a treat when you saw the red jerseys over white pants. I loved when they finally went red at home in the last decade. Even though we see the red jerseys 9-10 times a year now, it's not the same with the yellow. Meanwhile, I was tired of seeing the Redskins in the white jerseys anyway, so it's not like them wearing yellow pants with them ruins what would otherwise be a "rare" great look.

That being said, the Redskins looked better in every way ten years ago. The yellow pants suck and the Nike switch really did a disservice to their uniforms.

Take it back a step. Instead of mirroring the white pants, leave purple in the middle and swap the black and white. That would allow the purple to "show" more instead of fading into the black. This is what they wore their second season:

Or, better yet, add thin metallic gold striping/piping around the purple stripe on both sets of pants (and the socks) to further distinguish things.

They wore those blue pants on the road as recently as 1986, so they used the spare ones as practice pants into the '90s. If they reversed the red and white, then made the center stripe proportionately thicker to match the sleeve stripes, those pants would have looked great on the road. I always felt the road look of that set was lacking. Too little blue.

Like 95% of the Phoenix area, I haven't paid attention to the Coyotes this year. I have a few questions.

1) Has Scott played well this year?

2) Why would Montreal trade for him just to stick him in the minors?

3) Is he still in the minors? Will he play in the ASG and go back to the minors?

I'm not sure that's an unpopular opinion. They gained fame in the last decade when the fad became wearing throwbacks that were ugly or gaudy. My generation loves them because they were born in that era, but outside of a few dopes, Sox fans don't want those back.

NCAA Football from 2002 or so until 2005 messed up Illinois' colors. The school had an issue of using multiple shades of orange and blue. One combo which showed up frequently on merchandise was a tangerine orange and a faded navy (close to the shade the Braves use in branding but don't wear on the field). Despite various shades showing up in branding, Illinois had consistently used a dark navy and a bright orange for all athletic teams. For reference, here is the incorrect color scheme which didn't stop showing up on merchandise until two years ago:

For some reason, EA accurately created Illinois' uniforms with the correct striping and everything. But then they changed the colors to match the colors from the logos, which the university hadn't bothered to correct. It was maddening because clearly somebody looked at the actual uniforms to create them, but decided to change the colors anyway. It would be like if a videogame changed the Lakers jerseys to use the pastel purple from their court. For some reason, when Illinois changed its uniforms to wrap-around Nike crap in 2006, EA started using the correct colors on the uniforms.

In the more general outcome of him not being tried but having a cloud hanging over his head, no. But I expected it would end more like the Jameis Winston case, with the DA not filing charges and the accuser adamantly pressing on and declaring his guilt. I guess this is the best resolution for all, short of the accuser saying "jk I made it up, LOLZ!"

Yeah, that's nasty. I mean, they make cookie dough without eggs so you can eat it raw, but even that needs to be refrigerated. I'm thinking there were more sinister things going on.

Like pieces of a Lou Malnati's pizza in my midst, those never last.

I finally had Lou Malnati's on Friday. It was glorious. It was halfway cold by the time I got it home, but it was still well worth the wait. The location I went to is only carry-out, so I might stoop to picking up a pizza and eating it in in the parking lot at some point.

I feel like I have to actually try Portillos in the Chicago area, because I suspect that Arizona, like they do with most things, kinda runs it.

Yeah, I can't imagine it would be nearly as good as the locations in Chicago.

RE: Combos - the food of the Gods. A Portillo's combo, dipped with giardiniera and mozzarella is incredible, but something I'm lucky to get once a year. I've never been big on meatballs, for some reason, and the physical makeup of a sausage and meatballs sandwich sounds too cumbersome to eat. If you've got to eat it with a fork, it's not a sandwich.

As for Aurelio's green peppers, that sounds interesting. I'm not huge on green peppers on pizza, but I'd like to try that. And of course, you've got to add the fresh garlic.

Not sure how unpopular this is, but watching the NLDS last night, I don't like the gray the Mets have. It doesn't provide enough contrast with their blue-and-orange word mark. Seems either the gray should be a bit lighter, or there should be a white outline. I don't recall there being much contrast even with the black jerseys.

You know, I agree. There is something to this. I love the Mets' current set, but something is off about the gray jersey. Unless it's a straight-on camera shot of a player remaining relatively still, the jersey looks washed out. The orange and blue both look muted, like they're much lighter than the Mets' actual colors. They never have that issue on the home jerseys. I don't know why they have that issue, as I believe all teams use the same gray now. I don't remember the Giants' or Astros' orange outlines every looking washed out on the road sets. And I don't think it's something with the lighting in Dodger Stadium in particular, because I remember seeing part of a Mets daygame at Wrigley and thinking the same thing about the colors looking washed out.

Beggar's is really good but probably not great. I never was impressed with Aurelios. To me, there's half a dozen local places in any town which make the same pizza.

I don't know. I'm not even sure where they are located. When we're in the city, we normally go to fancier places. We have a Giordano's not too far from us, and there used to be a Gino's in Tinley/Orland which we went to a few times. I loved the sausage patty in the deep dish.

I'll have to make it a priority to get Lou's sometime. I'm a thin crust guy, anyway.

Ya'lls crazy. Portillo's is far above replacement-level. Al's is close, but not as good. I've never been to Buona, and I've never had Italian beef from a mom-and-pop place which was close to Al's or Portillo's. Since the small places are likely ordering their beef and sauce from the same vendors, I can't imagine them being that different or better than the chains. I will give the nod to Al's for their fries and giardiniera, though.

Also, there are 7 states in the US that have and will have more than one pro team per league in each state:

California

Florida

Missouri

New York

Ohio

Pennsylvania

Texas

Of the teams in those states (not counting New York), only two currently use the state names (Texas Rangers and Florida Panthers), and those two teams are named after something. To me, California Kings sounds just as good as the LA Kings (and better than the unabbreviated Los Angeles Kings). Adding in teams that recently changed their names, you have the California Angels, California (Golden) Seals, and Florida Marlins. All of which sound good.

To me, California Kings sounds like a mattress store. Also, you forgot Illinois, unless you're not including multiple teams from the same city.

That is absolutely what they wanted. She was writing articles 45 people read and reading score updates on the radio, and now people have heard of her across the country. DiCaro will get a nice career out of it. Sarah Spain got a national gig out of nothing more than being cute and having large breasts, and ESPN trots her out a few times a year on the main channel to cover women's issues when Jamelle Hill is busy or the story is beneath her. Julie got a feature story on Deadspin and is apparently quoted there regularly now. She's positioning herself to be the "rape expert," and I wouldn't be surprised if she starts showing up on ESPN every time there's an athlete rape case. She's made a name for herself on this case. And that's not to say that she in any way deserved death threats, but they'll end up helping her career.

I'm guessing that's the point. I don't listen to the Score outside of occasional White Sox and Illini games, but I can't imagine she's any better than she was when I read her crap in the RedEye a few years back. She's somehow established now as a legal and rape expert. And she might very well have extensive knowledge of both, but the press has made a her "the person" through this. She has been featured and quoted in Deadspin. Considering 1) her politics are in line with the Score and Deadspin; and 2) her presence allows the dude-bro boys club to excuse away more of their sexist buffoonery, she's going to get a long career out of this.

Also, the "cut rape kit short because equipment didn't work," thing sounds just unfathomable. If the equipment didn't work, I'm sure they could have transported the accuser to another hospital or police station to get the sampling done. If it were true that they said "This machine's not working. Whatevs." it'll be the worst thing to come out of this.

Really, if a rape kit is done and finds no Kane DNA, and if Kane has denied that they even had sex (which we don't know), no charges were going to be brought. No matter the origins of this bag, I think the lawyer held this press conference to put the "tampering with evidence" story out there to influence potential jurors in the eventual civil case. He knows this one is closed if it's true that no Kane DNA was found around her genitals.

If the rape kit is sitting sealed in an evidence locker... how did it get tested?

I'm sure there's extensive records of who opened and closed the kit and when. The testing was done weeks ago. The PD is saying that the results were found from the kit and reported to all parties and authorities. The kit has been in custody the entire time and there have been no breaches. And they're saying it's in the original envelope which means, if true, that this lawyer fabricated the envelope or someone played a prank on the accuser.
