  1. ' Again, I'm not really sure what you expect me to do with that info. Yes Toledo would be for the Tigers, but then I would have to do something with Lansing and the Tigers are really the only good fit. I still need something to do with the NY Giants, who are yeah obviously getting screwed over a bit, but what else am I going to do while keeping the teams what they are? As far as why I included a team like Lansing and kept Syracuse out, Syracuse is already in danger of losing their AAA affiliate. They've been struggling with attendance issues for years now, versus Lansing who's been one of if not the best lower affiliate draws in the minors averaging around 5K a game playing in what's just about a AAA ready stadium. Do I think Syracuse is losing their AAA team tomorrow, or that Lansing is leaving the Midwest League for International league anytime soon? No. Do I think both moves could be justified and possibly could happen one day? Yes. I don't see Toledo and the Tigers breaking up anytime soon, but if for some reason they did, if I was the Tigers, Lansing would be on my short list for a potential replacement. If Syracuse again struggles to crack 250K this year for attendance, the Nats may start to get serious about looking into other markets. Its sad to, because historically Syracuse has a been a pretty strong AAA market and I think the hope is still there that they can turn things around, but its getting tougher and tougher to justify them holding that AAA affiliate.
  2. Ok, but the Detroit AAA affiliate in this is Lansing and the NY Giants have Akron, so I'm not really sure what your point is.
  3. Simple game of can you beat this in terms of optimal distances between teams. I don't think there is a more optimal combination with these teams as is distance wise, but if anyone thinks there is one I am open to it. 4. A sinister attempt by ESPN to erase Curt Schilling from history, or a sloppy job by an intern editing a mid-afternoon repeat program that maybe 50 people were actually interested in watching? You tell me what happened, and by tell me, I mean completely ignore the second possibility which kills the story in two seconds and focus entirely on the first. Its a slow news day people and this needs to be as big of a story as possible. No detail is too mundane to gloss over nor is there a take is that is too nuanced not to cover. Did John Skipper himself order the edit himself? Or maybe he didn't even know about it and it was someone further down the food chain. If so than who? We need to talk to John Skipper to find out more, and by talk to him I mean use every word he says included none at all to paint a picture of him being directly involved in some way. In closing, I wish all involved parties the worst. ESPN's baseball coverage has gone so deep into the crapper, its to the point where I would prefer the Sunday Night game be ended if ESPN is the only network that would be willing to broadcast that game. And as a great of a pitcher as Schilling was, from every account I've heard he's just miserable person being to be around. A well known fact even before he got the broadcasting gig. The fact that ESPN hired him in spite of that rep is a testament to how totally inept they are at hiring decent people, let alone people who are actually good at their job and its another reason why their network continues its downward spiral into mediocrity.
  5. For me the jump the shark moment was the Brett Favre retirement coverage. You literally could not go 20 minutes without getting some type of Brett Favre update if you were watching ESPN when that was going on. I think at that point they could have changed their slogan from "The Worldwide Leader in Sports" to "The NFL's media bitch" But the talk show aspect of ESPN has gotten totally out of control and its been that way for several years now. At this point its almost like they want to be a sports network without actually covering sports. Both ESPN and ESPN2 will go days on end now without broadcasting a single live event or game. I'm not saying they need to go back to the days where they were covering the American badminton championships, but being a 24 hours talk network is not how they got to where they are now and it looks like they're just going to keep doubling down on that model until it finally works or they go out of business.
  6. As I said before the cities are what they are in some cases. KC's AAA team being in San Antonio is one of those cases.
  7. I've got my own system to do that stuff although it does seem like a pretty useful program. This is more about whether or not it would be better to put a AAA team in Rosemont or Elgin.
  8. Looking for a bit of feedback on a side project I have going. Essentially what I'm trying to do is create a fantasy AAA league for an historical MLB league. Rather than simply going with the basic model of assigning the teams strictly to the largest cities without an MLB team, I'm trying to follow the Braves/Mariners model a bit more, where the AAA team is in a suburb of the parent club's city. I don't do this in every case, but if I were a team like the Twins for instance, I would seriously be looking into moving my AAA team from Rochester to St. Paul if they haven't already done so. Whether or not they actually could is another story for a whole bunch of reasons that I don't care to get into and for the sake of this project doesn't matter. This is more concerned about assuming those logistical issues were aside what would you do. Obviously I'm looking for more feedback with some teams than others. The Nashville Sounds and Portland Beavers are good as is for example. But there's others like the Tigers AAA team, where Warren is simply a suggestion. I've never been to Detroit and know very little about the surrounding area. All I know about Warren its that its a highly populated high crime area north of the city with an affluent area in the northwest part of the city, which is where I would probably build the park if one were to actually exist. In terms of how feasible it is that it could actually support a AAA team I really don't know. Would Auburn Hills or Pontiac be better choices? I don't know enough about the area to say for sure. That's about as flexible as I'm going to be with location moves though. Whether or not Buffalo be a better choice for a AAA team than suburban Montreal isn't a debate I'm interested in having. The cities are what they are. Same thing with the MLB affiliates, although I will switch up teams if there is a net overall benefit. (ie. the combined distance between the MLB club and the AAA teams are reduced) Same thing with division alignments. 9. The complete game Johnny Cueto pitched last night was the first by an AL starter in the World Series since Jack Morris' famous ten inning shutout of the Braves in game seven of the '91 Series.
  10. First inside the park home run in World Series history since Mule Haas in the 1929 World Series. The next most recent one was hit by none other than Lou Gehrig in the 1928 World Series.
  11. In game two of the 1926 World Series, Tommy Thevenow would hit what would prove to be the final home run of his career. An inside the park home run off in the ninth inning off Sad Sam Jones. What makes this stat unique is that Tommy Thevenow didn't retire from baseball until 1938 and currently holds the record for the longest homerless steak in Major League history.
  12. The most recent Baltimore Oriole to lead the American League in slugging percentage is Reggie Jackson. Also the first Oriole pitcher to ever shut out the Yankees was Don Larsen in what wound up being the last win of a 3-21 season.
  13. I'm not going to fact check this, but assuming it's true, that's amazing. Granted the Yankees and Cardinals account for many of these, but still it's hard to believe. If the Mets can get by the Cubs it would make the 2015 Fall Classic the first ever all-expansion World Series ever played. Also another bit of fun trivia, for all the great players on the first Blue Jays World Series team in '92, only one of them ever won an MVP in his career. That player was Jeff Kent. Traded mid-season to the Mets for David Cone, but did play on the team long enough to qualify for a ring.
  14. Since the LDS became the norm in 1995, this is the first year where none of the original American League teams are represented in that round. This will also be just the third time in American League history where none of the original 8 teams will be represented in the ALCS. The two previous years were 1982 (Angels vs Brewers) and 1985 (Blue Jays vs Royals). There has also never been a World Series where a team that was active in 1901 wasn't involved.
  15. The most recent pitcher to win at least 20 games in consecutive seasons is Roy Oswalt. It's also the only two times he ever won 20 games in his career.
  16. They aren't anti-American, but they're pro-bribery. They're also pro slavery which I think supersedes everything.I'm generally not a fan of baycotting events. I don't think the US boycotting the Moscow games did anything. Likewise with them boycotting the '84 games. But this may be the most disgusting sporting event since the time of the Roman Gladiators. This event shouldn't be boycotted so much as it should be condemned. I love the World Cup. It is probably my favorite sporting event of all. However, I seriously doubt if I'll watch much of this one. I may be melodramatic about this but having it in November and December is bad. Having it in Qatar is even worse. Same here. Shameful how it was granted, shameful human rights abuses allow it to happen (lets be honest here, it's slavery), shameful it's being held when it is, and shameful the confederations didn't stand up to FIFA over it. And from a purely sporting perspective, If there were ever a world cup that would be easy to ignore... this'll be it. That's hockey, football, basketball season. There will be plenty of other things to watch. In the US in particular it'll be the most invisible World Cup in nearly 40 years. If nothing else the event will serve as an example of what can happen when powerful people want to get stuff done. Because in spite of all of the objections to this both morally and financially. (I don't think any league in Europe is happy about this thing taking place in November-December.) This thing is still happening, literally over dead bodies. Make no mistake. FIFA is more determined then ever to make sure this thing happens. The only things at this point that's going to put a dent in this event at this point is if pressure is point on sponsors (I would completely with the assertion that any sponsor of the 2022 World Cup is also a sponsor of slavery) and to have super star teams and players not show up. If you had teams like Brazil, Germany, France and Italy all staying home, it would be hard to call any winner the best team in the World. Same thing if you were to beat an Argentinean team minus Lionel Messi. Obviously we don't know yet who the stars of the 2022 soccer world would be, but they drive the event's legitimacy. If five of the top ten players in the World elected to stay at home, it would be harder to still call it an actual World Cup.

  18. Well I think the problem with them more was that they essentially went all in on SUV's and ignored their other brands/designs. I don't think they was anything wrong with having brands as they did, I just don't think they invested in them enough. I also completely agree with what Michael Moore said back in '89 in that they were a company far more concerned with short term profits and their stock price then building a company that could be successful in the long run. Say what you want about him politically, but he was 100% correct with that criticism of GM. We're turning record profits but we need to cut back on the number of employees and plants we have in order to survive. That I look at as the number one reason why they went from being the largest auto company in the world to being bankrupt within two decades. It wasn't done to make the company better, it was done so the investors could make a quick buck and then dump the stock. It was corporate raiding from the inside out.
  19. I do remember Jack FM. We're going to play all the Bon Jovi and U2 we want no matter how offended people get by it because we're anti-establishment. Think that lasted about six months. We still have a Jack station here in Buffalo. For those that don't know, the idea behind the Jack format was to emulate the variety of music people might carry around with them on their iPods... with the idea that most people don't just listen to rock or just country, etc. I loved that station when it first came out, but now it's 90% bad 80's music with some other decent stuff sprinkled in. Well the other thing that made Jack such a bad idea was that it replaced WCBS-FM which was and still is a the most popular oldies station in the New York metro area. So not only was it a bad radio station that nobody wanted to hear, it replaced another station that had a very loyal following. Also I will post the logo of Jack FM when it was first launched. To me its one of the perfect examples of something wanting to be seen as anti-establishment, but at the same time being as mainstream as you can get.

  21. Most everything else I can think of has already been said, but I will give credit to Enron and KMart. No clue how KMart keeps getting bailed out either.
  22. That's fine to. I don't mind seeding teams by conference for the first two rounds. I actually would prefer it that way. I don't need to see a first round series between Vancouver and Florida. If your not a fan of either of those teams why would you care? But the final four I think should be reseeded by record.
  23. That alignment actually doesn't look all that bad. Obvioiusly it works better for some divisions then others, but as a whole I like it. The only thing I'm not a fan of is the playoff option. I think that's something that should be figured out well in advance. But I do like the idea that any combination of teams should be able to play for the Stanely Cup as opposed to the current East/West format. I would strongly be in favor of that for the NBA as well and even with the MLB and NFL I think it should at least be considered.
  24. There is no news about the A's possible relocation because no one is actually talking about the A's relocating. Selig made an off the cuff comment that the press then ran in a thousand different directions with and sensationalized the hell out of. End of story. The A's aren't moving anywhere outside their current Bay Area home, have no interest in doing so, and MLB has not approved any such move. End of story. That pretty much is it, but I will bet you anything this topic will be at three pages by Tuesday anyway.
  25. Nashville was considered; however, then Devils coach Lemaire wasn't sold on the idea. Source I don't think the talks ever really got that serious. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being they would certainly move and 1 meaning they were absolutely staying put, I would give it about a 3. About the only thing that came out of it was a restructured lease deal which leads me to think the Devils were using Nashville more as a bargaining chip then anything else. I don't see why any team would want to leave the NYC metro area to go to Nashville unless either ownership needed money, or things had gotten really bad, neither of which was the case.
