  1. It is a good logo. But I agree in that they're diluting their identity regardless of theirs or Brandiose's motives. I mean, I'm not sure what their uniform/hat schedule is like, but these two hats... ...should not coexist. That's just overkill. And if you absolutely must have two hats with such similar logos, at least put them on different colored bases (i.e. make it a special white-crowned cap or something like that). Three, maybe four on-field hats is fine. But five or six? Come on.
  2. Took me completely by surprise! Thought for sure it'd be the Beacon. From the glimpse I got at the live feed, gotta say it looks pretty good so far. But given the lettering involved in the team name, they made the worst mistake possible....... There's a "BS" cap. Seriously?! I would think that if your city name begins with a "B" and the team name starts with an "S," that would be one of the biggest potential mistakes looming in your mind! /rant. That's really the only complaint I have about it from what I've seen. Now, let's just hope their stadium is ready in time.
  3. Tomorrow is unveiling day for the new Biloxi baseball club, known until now as the Huntsville Stars (Brewers Double-A affiliate). The writing is on the wall, and I feel the new name is certain to be the Beacon.....or Beacons. (Seriously, why would that be a singular team name?) Obviously I'm looking forward to seeing the whole logo/uniform package, but their stadium situation is almost as intriguing to me. I've literally been keeping my eye on their live stadium cam day after day. Gotta say, I'm rooting for 'em. It would be sad if they were unable to begin play right away as the newly-branded team.
  4. He probably suffocated inside that zero-breathability costume amidst a 6-run rally in an afternoon game
  5. Looking at social media, the response seems tepid at best. Gothamite and Bmac, you both hit the nail on the head: definitely too cutesy, and I think sticking with black and gold would have been much better. Also, looking at the four hats there are a few issues: 1) why do the more colorful caps keep getting placed with the road jerseys, and the home jerseys get stuck with the boring solid cap? 2) squatchee on the road cap should be silver to match the bill (Astros, I'm looking at you), and 3) while fun, the jalapeno logo just seems out of place with the rest of the set. My grade: C-
  6. Not sure I like it. I don't hate it, but I'm getting kind of tired of all the Brandiose-esque nonsense. I thought what they had was perfectly fine. Could've stood for a few tweaks, but another navy team in the Texas League? Sigh.
  7. Well, the day has arrived for the Missions. Their presumed identity change will take place a 2 pm Central time. Too bad there's no video feed of the event to be found (not even a single mention of the event on the team website). What's hilarious is all the newbie/casual fan comments on the Facebook status: i.e. "Oooh, are they going to be a Dodgers' farm team again?!" When it was made clear that their affiliation with San Diego was extended, and the affiliation musical chairs is long over. Oh, and don't forget the "Are they going to be a Triple-A league now??" comments.
  8. Those colors do look great The "Tom Sox" script does look pretty wonky. Creative name though; up here in Washington there's a collegiate summer team called the Wenatchee AppleSox (major apple-producing region). "Sox" is one of the most versatile suffixes in all of the sports world. Too bad there's no "Charlottesville" anywhere in the identity, but that must lie in the fact that it's a very long name to write out in any kind of script. Are those color swatches at the bottom of the easel the hat designs? If so, they might've been better off getting rid of the standalone "T" one--looks silly since there are two "TS's", and perhaps a "C" for Charlottesville could work instead of the standalone T.
  9. If the San Antonio Missions' (Padres Double-A) Facebook page isn't screaming rebrand, I don't know what is: https://www.facebook.com/samissions Their uniform and logo set may be due for an update, but I've always liked it. It's seemed like one of the mainstays of the high minor leagues. Thoughts?
  10. As mentioned above, it looks most like it'll be "Beacon(s)", given the slanted stripes like a lighthouse. If that really is the case, what a shame. Black Jacks sounds like a much better fit to me. Also, it seems as if it's going to be another "eyes" logo--a la Lake Elsinore Storm or Chattanooga Lookouts--which would be alright, if it weren't for the fact that the Lookouts are in the same league.
  11. The awkward thing is their new stadium is unlikely to be ready in time for opening day, so they may have to play a few home games in Huntsville, AL (their home through this past season). Oh, and it looks like they'll be fined $10,000 for every home game they can't play in their new ballpark: http://ballparkdigest.com/201407217486/minor-league-baseball/news/disaster-in-biloxi-new-ballpark-may-not-be-ready-until-august
  12. MLB: Mariners -- I grew up with them here in the Northwest. My dad watched them on TV and listened on radio, and I've never known any other way. NFL: Seahawks -- Same as with the Mariners; I simply grew up on 'em. Didn't follow football much til I was 12 or 13, but since a short time after that it's been all Hawks, all the time in the NFL for me. NBA: Blazers -- I followed basketball very closely when I was 9-10, but over the past decade-plus, I've really soured on the NBA because of the insane egos of so many players in the league. It's just become ridiculously individualistic IMO. But when I do get around to watching NBA, it's the Blazers for me. They've been my team since the Sonics were stolen (we don't talk about OKC in my house ) and I'm very familiar with the PDX area, as I go there to see close relatives at least once or twice a year. NCAA: Washington State/Boise State -- The former because I actually loved their colors and helmet logo from a very young age (and I identify with them geographically), and the latter because my alma mater not far from Boise didn't have a football team. So I simply adopted BSU as my home-away-from-home favorite. And these aren't a conflict of interest, since they never play each other.
  13. It wasn't expected to remain that way. When the team relocated from Riverside in 1991, there were plans for development around the ballpark. But the nearby military base closed, and the '08 economic crisis made things worse. The city is on the brink of bankruptcy, but incredibly attendance made a dramatic jump this past season. They might stick with the logo set after all.
  14. (Sorry in advance for large photo sizes) I'm having a hard time deciding if the High Desert Mavericks (Single-A Rangers affiliate) need to rebrand, or if they should stick with what they've got and run with it proudly. Because at first glance, this... ...looks incredibly dated. But when you look at their ballpark atmosphere... ...the logo and identity package's desolate datedness actually fits in pretty well with the very remote setting in the Mojave Desert. The stadium is on the very outer reaches of Adelanto, CA, a "suburb" of the larger city of Victorville.
  15. In my opinion, Muskets would have the best ring to it. I'm a sucker for alliteration.
  16. Would you believe that old logo was only ten years old? Kitsap is the name of the county and the peninsula on which the city of Bremerton sits.
  17. The Kitsap BlueJackets (based in Bremerton, WA) of the West Coast League (collegiate summer wood bat league) will soon unveil a new logo. Old: A draft of the new logo is on their Facebook page. I've been told it's not quite the finished project. "BlueJackets" has a double meaning: a take on the insect (yellowjackets) and Bluejacket referring to someone who is in the Navy. Bremerton is the home of the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, hence the anchors and sailor cap on the "newer" logo.
  18. Kind of a homer pick, but the Seahawks are a prime example of a team that pulls it off well.
  19. At least there's no black. The logo on the sleeve is black and there are black dropshadows on the script and numbers. Oops, guess I got so used to seeing Mets jerseys without the black that the black is barely even a distant memory in the back of my mind.
  20. I like the Vancouver Canucks' current identity. A good case can certainly be made for the stick-in-rink logo (I myself am a huge fan of it), and possibly for Johnny Canuck as well, but I think the orca still looks great.
  21. Take that back, heathen! Obviously this is the unpopular opinions thread, but that is honestly the first time I have heard this from anybody. There's a first time for everything I guess.
  22. What "whole park ranger theme"? It does not exist.
