  1. Darren Rovell reported Nike is selling Umbro and Cole Haan. This explains why they are moving Manchester City to Nike.

    Here's a link:

    My link

The person who commented on the bottom of the article about Nike gutting Umbro is spot on.

No doubt. That's shady to buy a company, strip it clean, and then dump it with a, "Well, yeah, you're making more money every year, just not enough for us." The 'profitability' of Umbro wouldn't be an issue if Nike didn't syphon all its major assets.

Wouldn't expect anything less from our resident adidas shill.

    Signed,

"A shill, plant, or stooge is a person who publicly helps a person or organization without disclosing that he has a close relationship with that person or organization."

What close relationship do I have with Nike?

I think he's been pretty clear that he works for Adidas...

And you might not have a working relationship with Nike, but you have a clear Nike bias and routinely make the same kind of comments when it comes to Adidas (i.e. neon uniforms, sublimated patterns).

  3. OK, what i meant to say earlier, was that i believe Nike presents ussf with a few jersey designs and they say "we like this one, put navy numbers on it" I'm assuming that was the case with these, but Nike has their pattern for every jersey cycle. Last time it was the mesh holes. This time it was the micro holes. I figure it wasnt until saturday that ussf realized how bad they'd look. So i'm guessing they got a lot of negative response and told nike, "these arent gonna work, fix them" Wednesday we'll find out what they decided to do.

i think it's obvious that Nike has nothing to do with number assignments.

I agree. But that's a long way from saying the dot-matrix numbers were "chosen by the USSF".

Exactly. The dot-filled numbers are likely presented by Nike as part of the whole package, but if they end up not being suitable for some unforseen reason (which, I guess lack of common sense or due diligence qualifies :P), the team is within their right to have then changed.

So, do you guys think that they have some extra numbers from last cycle, or do you think Nike overnighted some new ones, or a local embroidery/sporting goods store did them??

They're just heat applied. Shouldn't be too hard to get some. There might even be a warehouse full of them. When's the next scheduled match?

I don't think it'll be a problem at all. I highly doubt Nike doesn't have any blue numbers lying around, and as far as applying them to the jerseys, they could do that literally 15 minutes before the game.

  4. The numbers on that Croatia kit are still readable, though. The US and Netherlands kits are nearly illegible.

yes they're legible, but they're also a faded red/pinkish color on a shirt that's predominantly and identifiably true red. I think that still speaks to the poor execution of the numbers.

  5. Hmmm, I must say I'm not a fan of the USA jersey onfield. The mandatory white spaces required for the numbers look unnatural. The fan replica is far superior.

I agree. I was excited about hoops, but the white blocks for numbers (and white/blue socks) really ruin it for me.

yeah Nike really fumbled with the numbers on a lot of the new shirts, at least when viewed at night.

But they looked good in sunlight. (As an aside, I think Portugal looks much better with green shorts ala the 2010 World Cup than they do in all white)

  6. contrary to the blue/red hoops of the previously-leaked Gunners new away kit, here is a newer leak (likely more accurate):

    arsenal-12-13-nike-away-football-shirt-leaked-b.jpg

it's not too bad...though i hope those are royal blue hoops, not purple, as it looks like with that lighting.

that seems like it'd be a keepers shirt to me

  7. I really like these alts. A LOT.

HGI has really made themselves known as of late (giving credit where it should be due). Kinda curious, now that this leather-texture helmet has been produced for the Redskins, if any other teams would even be allowed to do so now. If so, then someone ship some to the Steelers to wear with their bumblebee throwbacks. (Off-hand: how cool would it be if the Steelers and Redskins played each other in their respective throwback alts?)

Back to the helmets...this may well serve as a game-changer in the NFL level. We kinda already saw that with the Seahawks helmet, but I'm curious to see if these textured patterns take hold on a primary basis.

(One other question: does HGI produce exclusively for Nike or are they free to produce for whatever other manufacturer?)

they did the new Notre Dame and Maryland flag helmets, so my guess is no, they aren't exclusive to Nike.

  8. Hate the Arsenal with a passion, but this isn't terrible.

Also, am I the only one who thinks the French flag-esque stripes are quite fitting pour l'Arsenal?

Lol yeah it's fairly apropos. Maybe next year they'll just have the word DENCH down the side of the shorts.

  9. I know someone joked that orange is the new black, but that night actually be true. Fulhams new away appears to be orange and they've launched a few I guess teasers that are in Dutch and someone mentioned that one hen translated to English is literally "orange is the new black".

    hmm it could be.

I was intrigued so I took a quick little poll of the top 6 leagues and was kind of surprised at how few teams actually used orange as a clash color. They were: Swansea, Newcastle, QPR, Real Betis, Zargoza, and Marseille. Chelsea sported black and orange training gear and jackets this year, but they also wore black and orange jerseys last year. And Valencia had an orange shirt this year as well but they have a bit of history with orange so I don't it can be attributed to any sort of trend.

Someone mentioned this before about Marseille wearing reversible third shirts to represent inside out bomber jackets, but might have confused that with the home shirt.

This video explains it, and I think it's a pretty cool concept and Adidas has done a pretty great job of infusing the culture of Marseille into their shirts for a couple of years now.

  10. This is what's been floating around the twitterwebs for Liverpool:

    AsaoBivCEAElqoR.png

I really hope they keep the standard charter logo white. I don't think they've ever had a sponsor logo be anything other than white, ever.

EDIT: Quick Google revealed that they wore a shirt with a yellow Carlsberg logo in european competitions for two years. I think it looks terrible.

  11. People were talking about Maryland for at least half the season.

I'd like to see some proof of that.

How many tuned in JUST to see the black uniforms? I'm willing to be quite a few people.

    That too.

I can't sum up old Sportcenter footage from the fall, but I know that at least ONCE ever College Football Final, they mentioned Marylands crazy uniforms.

The first thing people talked about when they mentioned that game wasn't the game itself, it was the uniforms.

    http://arizona.sbnation.com/arizona-st-sun-devils/2011/9/10/2416697/asu-vs-missouri-wild-victory-sun-devils-blackout-friday-osweiler (Headline is "blackout")

http://scores.espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=312520009 (AZ won in a blackout)

And how many people you know went up to you the next day and said "Hey, did you see those Arizona State uniforms?". Same with Maryland.

Exactly. Uniforms are college football now. Their the "cool" thing. I'm 19, and while I love an Alabama uniform as much as the next guy on these forums, all my friends think is "wow Maryland has sick uniforms" or "what's Oregon wearing this week?" it's the culture, and it's what makes momey. And I'm fine with it. Most teams do pretty cool stuff actually if you took off your traditionalist goggles

Couldn't he easily say the same thing to you. It's a matter of taste, not bias.

  12. I am hoping to see a green and yellow wings helmet as well, it can even be the liquid metal for all I care. After seeing TCU's purple liquid metal helmet I wanna see it done. But we also have a lot of good looking helmets already so I wouldn't be devastated.

When was the TCU helmet posted? I must have overlooked it.

It's back a few pages..... but you can Google it. It's around.

  13. For the Manchester Derby they usually both wear white shorts if they are the primary that year. Newcastle has black shorts but for some reason refuse to wear them with that orange shirt.

Manchester United has often times worn black shorts against city. And there are plenty other examples of white on white shorts in the PL, including in the Villa v. City posted above. Clashing shorts just isn't a worry these days.

  14. Rumored new Man City kit:

    ArbU_UYCAAAGYeq.jpg

    I like it!

I like it, but it just doesn't look anywhere near as good as the 11/12 kit. The white pants look horrible compared to the blue they Wear now. Come on City!

Strongly disagree. The white is a much better look. I'm sure they'll have a sky blue option when the other team is in white shorts.

I don't think that rule even exists anymore, and if it does, it hasn't been followed for a couple of years now.

    united-city.jpg

    Wigan+Athletic+v+Newcastle+United+Premier+vzZM1mS4FVzl.jpg

And I think the 2012 City kit is a massive downgrade compared to the one they are currently wearing. I don't really care about the difference in white v. blue shorts, but the black accents are terrible. Especially the black at the top of the sock compared to this years beautiful white and blue hooped socks

  15. im glad adidas is finally starting to figure out that simple templates look wayyyy better than the stupid random templates that they've been using for years.

what? Their Bayern, Liverpool, Chelsea, and pretty much every shirt aside from Lyon and Marseille aways have been simple. And some of those away shirts have been class like this one

  16. a bunch of images of B1G teams

Technically the B1G logo is on the nose bumper rather than an actual decal.

I quite like that as a place if they have to have a conference 'stamp' somewhere on the unis, it's subtle & not visually cluttering like sticking a big patch on the front tends to be

it's a decal on the nose bumper
