  1. I don't know, with 162 games a year I really don't mind the Red Sox breaking out some alternates. I like the regular whites, I like the red jerseys, I like the City Connects. I like the greys, but I'm not a huge fan of the navy blue jerseys. I'd wear red as an alternate home and away and bring in some kind of throwback as a weekend day game alternate. The 70s pullovers with the red hats would be perfect for that.
  2. To be clear, the question here should not be if the Boston Marathon is something you think about when you think about Boston. It should be whether or not the people of Boston consider the Boston Marathon to be important to them. And with the amount of history combined with the bombing in 2013, it's a core part of the modern identity of the city. If we're taking "City Connect" literally, as in something that connects the fans to the city, then the marathon is one of the top options for a team to pick as inspiration. If you want to question the program or design, that's fine. But it is unequivocally a great source of inspiration given the premise.
  3. As a Boston sports fan, I can tell you that the marathon is pretty ingrained in the culture. They do it on Patriots Day every year, a regional holiday celebrating the start of the Revolutionary War. Everyone gets off school, and the Red Sox play at 11am that day to coincide with the race. Then, ever since the bombing in 2013 and subsequent David Ortiz speech and Red Sox championship, it has become a bigger part of the culture and became even more tied to the Red Sox. If you don't think the Red Sox should wear a jersey for it, that's fine. But it is absolutely something the city cares about, and the design absolutely nails the goal. You'll see nearly as many City Connect jerseys as regular ones at points in the crowd.
  4. I still think we got spoiled by the first three uniforms to come out. The Red Sox opened by nailing the "City" part with something that strongly connects to the city and is well designed. Was that uniform part of their brand in 2021? No. But it absolutely is now, and that's how traditions are born. Then, we got the Marlins with their bold design connecting to the culture of the community. It's a set that is absolutely more "Miami" than what the team wears now on a day-to-day basis. After that, it was the White Sox in all black with the "Southside" uniforms that created the perfect hybrid between the existing brand and the city. All three uniforms added something meaningful to the existing brand while connecting to the city. Many of the ones we've gotten since have seemed stale in comparison.
  5. Altering the image reveals the regular home uniform.
  6. The Rams also made that uniform their primary road uniform the next season, replacing a uniform that was not well liked. If you make the rules, you also get to choose when to ignore them, and that seems like a pretty good reason.
  7. At this point, I think the NFL just says "yes" anytime teams ask if they can wear something.
  8. And the Bruins' 23-24 schedule includes "Era Nights." There are six of them, all against Original Six opponents. Montreal gets two of them. EDIT:
  9. I believe his "insight" about the 90s throwbacks comes from the Nike Patriots shoe having royal blue this year. And the Pro Shop had hinted at 90s jerseys last year or the year before, but I believe that's all it was. It wouldn't totally shock me to see those come back in some capacity, but it would either have leaked or been announced by now if they were back for this season I think.
  10. Yeah, that Patriots "reporter" is full of . He'll probably get some of those things right by dumb luck, but that's about it.
  11. Man, this is going to look horrendous. And in primetime, too. Yuck. Better than with the grey helmets, but what an awful matchup.
  12. The satin finish on the helmet looks cool in the studio and in the daylight, but I suspect it won't look nearly as good with that warehouse lighting at Ford Field.
  13. Helmet good. Uniform bad. I'd love to see it with the white jersey and blue pants.
  14. The Red Sox wore their City Connect jerseys this afternoon with the Father's Day caps. Weird look, but I don't totally hate it since the lighter blue on the jerseys matches the lighter blue on the cap.
  15. If the Bills took the current uniforms, dropped the navy trim, and added the 90s red helmet, I'd be pretty happy.
  16. Akshually, it's just four in a row. The Rangers had dark blue pants, not black ones. I know it looks like black, and if it's so close you can't tell the difference it might as well be black, but this forum is about the details.
  17. That's a great idea @throwmesomepics. Here's what I have for the Pats. These aren't predictions, just what I'd like to see.
  18. Make the cuff of the jersey that pattern so it shows on the outside and include a stripe on the pants with the same pattern and I could get on board. In practice, I think these are going to look very boring on most players.
  19. Early thoughts on what the Patriots could be wearing this year: - Week 2 against Miami on Sunday Night Football is a prime alternate uniform opportunity. I expect we either see the red throwbacks or the silver pants for New England in this one. - I think we see the Jets wearing white at home in Week 3, and the Cowboys should do the same in Week 4. That means the Patriots should be in dark uniforms for the first five games. - New England's first five home games are either against the AFC East or NFC. Those are who they like to wear the throwbacks against. Don't be surprised if we see the red uniforms broken out twice in this span. I doubt we see them in Week 1, but the next four games are Miami in primetime, New Orleans, Buffalo, and Washington. - We may only see New England in white once before the bye. The team's first four road games are at the Jets, Cowboys, Raiders, and Dolphins. Only the Raiders can be counted upon to wear dark at home in that stretch. - Miami typically only wears aqua at home late in the season or at night. The Week 8 game against New England fits neither category, making it likely the Dolphins wear white. However, this could be a prime opportunity for the white throwback to come back out. If that's the case, I'd love to see the Patriots wear red and make it a full throwback game. - The Patriots are the home team for their international game in Germany, playing at "home" in one of these neutral site games for the first time. They should be in blue outside the US for the first time as a result. - With games at Dallas and in Germany, the Patriots are likely to wear blue in an indoor stadium (depending on how the stadium in Frankfurt is arranged) for the first time since 2015 at Dallas. The two previous times the team wore navy indoors were the two Super Bowls against the New York Giants. - Pats at Giants in Week 12 should be regular road against regular home. - December opens with New England hosting the Chargers for the first time since their rebrand. Hopefully, LAC wear yellow pants for this one for some nice contrast. This could also be a throwback game for the Pats. LAC is white over yellow vs NE in red would look very nice. - The Steelers like to wear the all-blacks in primetime at home, and the two Thursday Night games in November and December seem like prime opportunities. I'm assuming we see Pittsburgh in all black against the regular New England roads. - Monday Night at home in Week 15 against Kansas City could absolutely be a throwback game, which would be disappointing since it would be a lot of red. Hopefully this one is red vs blue. - The Pats are back on the road at Denver for SNF on Christmas Eve. The Broncos love the navy jerseys for Sunday Night Football, so don't be shocked if this is Denver in all blue against New England in white. This could be a Color Rush game for Denver, too, which would probably look better. - The season ends with a pair of divisional games at Buffalo and against the Jets. Those should be white at royal blue and white at navy blue, but the pants for both of New England's opponents will remain TBD.
  20. I'd like to see the candy apple red helmet with the color rush jersey, I think that would look good. The red of the helmet would tie into the red numbers, but it wouldn't be as jarring a difference in finishes as you get with the red jersey. That with white pants and navy or red socks could be the good basis for a new look.
