  1. The Jazz want to "own" a color...

but they want to give the fans their purple back...

but they want to be  ahead of the trends...

but they want a clean and simplified palette.

Lavender and black is right there, being very patient and waiting to be picked.

all these nike NCAA tourney schools with (insert school name) ENERGY on their shooting shirts are somewhat lame.  So much for originality.

The first one I saw was Texas, and I thought "Longhorns Energy" was a play on BDE. Seemed kinda clever and mascot specific. Then I saw the 41 other teams using "energy" and jumped out the window.

  3. Indy vs the Lakers is exactly what the NBA deserves for not thinking this all the way through. Both teams' city editions will not be allowed, as well as the Lakers purple statement uniform and the Pacers navy icon uniform. This leaves both teams with just white and gold uniforms remaining. They have no problem with white and gold, they just played that matchup the other day, but all these courts were built around teams' city edition uniform identities and none of them contrast enough with the court to be used. You'd think someone would have considered this before now.

Guess they had been hoping for Toronto vs San Antonio or Houston as those are the only matchups that would have allowed for city edition use on the blue/red court.

  4. Yeah, the leaks all looked terrible, but the releases have changed my mind in some cases.

I'm ashamed to say the ones that I like, but let's just say they've been posted recently for their terrible Nike-speak and they are terrible but now I....like them. It's all storytelling with these things, and sometimes they just do a good job with it. I'm still not buying them or wanting them to exist, but the people selling them are doing a pretty good job.

  5. If those are indeed jersey colors, and do correlate with in-season tournament jerseys that will be worn, I have two stabs at the teams they match.

Option 1, on the left is simply dividing between east and west, groups A,B, & C then trying to match up teams (alphabetical does not seem to make sense). Option 2, on the right is still keeping the playing-groups of 5 together but this time trying to match up teams best suited for the colors shown. Ends up with a bit of a random order.

In both options there are weird ones (Bulls in Maroon, Blazers in gold, Spurs in light blue, Nets in pink) but no matter what I do I keep getting the Knicks in the seafoam/patina color.🤞

  6. Good looking and needing to exist are different conversations, because of course none of these need to exist.

Some look good but have some weird decisions within them, and other just don't look good, don't make sense, and shouldn't have ever been presented as options.

I think Boston, Cleveland, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, New York, Phoenix, Toronto, and Utah look good. Do the Mavs need a black jersey or do the Raptors need a gold jersey? No. Does Boston's fit with their jersey history? No. Do the Knicks' need that double-lettering? No.

None of these should exist and be worn by these professional teams, but at least a couple of the cash grab editions look good in a vacuum.

Love that someone covered Jermaine Samuels Jr.'s number so he didn't get in trouble for this leak, yet you can make out his name and number from the back of the jersey.

Not a Rockets fan, not from Houston, but I love the inspiration being Phi Slama Jama. I've seen multiple outlets say it's Oilers inspired, but the blue is clearly not going in that direction.

  8. There's no way this is just a random design choice, these had to have been designed by someone with a name or a following or something. They're a little too polished to be done by that NBA_paint account that gets a lot of pub, but something like that?

I think he's reasonably famous enough and is the type of cool-cachet personality that the City Program is going after, so it makes sense. I'm not seeing the connection to him really though. I guess the font is kinda that 60s/70s throwback that matches up with Leon's music, but it doesn't suit the color scheme at all.

Now if the authentics are more shiny fabric, kind of redoing the trash bag look, then there could be marketing-speak tie-ins with the music. "Silky smooth vocals", "shimmery notes", "velvety chords", etc. Fingers crossed for shiny gray.

  10. Looks like the Mavs are going with a Leon Bridges design. Idk whether he designed them or they're a tribute to his music or what, but that seems to be his signature, and he grew up in Fort Worth and goes to games. They even released an album together (he and the Mavs I guess). I didn't know he was well known enough to get a city edition design, but I guess he won a grammy?

  11. This doesn't seem good.

All speculation: I'm envisioning them becoming a red/black team, with Oilers blue used in 1 or 2 uniforms. Red helmet and White helmet. Something flag related will happen. If they go with horns on the front of the helmet, the H logo will be on the back, possibly in Oilers blue.

Has the SDSU work been scrubbed from the net? I can't find images anywhere, but I know they were out there at some point.

  13. Am I the only one who thinks #3 looks the best? It's the highest point the graphic reaches, therefore it leaves a perfect spot for a number below it. The number being on the right balances out the wordmark being pushed toward the left,  slanting number matches the overall design, adding orange makes it more vibrant, I choose that one. Make it reality.

The Pelicans are kind of weird this way. Because generally, I think their brand is really nice. I like the typefaces they use and I think the symmetrical pelican carrying the basketball is a fantastic logo.

Yet despite that, they somehow feel really boring and forgettable. You could blame it on the colors, but I don't even know if that's really the issue.  Reminds me a lot of the Houston Texans in that sense. They have a nicely executed modern brand that's just really easy to ignore.

I feel like blaming it on the colors is completely valid. Sure, they have gold but they never use it more than for trim.

Pels, Texans, Wizards, Patriots, Capitals, FL Panthers, and a bunch in MLB all come across as less interesting to me because of their navy/red scheme. It's a nice pair of colors for sure, but we see it so much that it's hard to envision that as part of an "identity". It's a bunch of flag colors, league logo colors, corporation colors, if you see navy/red next to a football or a baseball or basketball a team doesn't jump to mind. If you see purple/gold next to a basketball you know.

I don't have a better option for these teams this second, I just think it's the nature of the navy/red beast. It looks a little less fun and doesn't let you stand out, no matter how good your logo or type is.

  15. League-wide templates are always bad ideas. I get that they're used to save money, but they never make a new sport or league look professional.

I like the more colorful teams, but I wish the side panels and trim had been used in varying ways. Some of the patterns/textures are nice.

Confirmation of the new designs being used on the Summer League jerseys:

That being said, we'll only be seeing (noticing) 1 more team using their new wordmark. In Vegas 😉

Wait, so you said "designs", plural.

Then you noted that out of the 3 teams releasing new looks only one other will be seen by us other than the Kings.

    Then you said "In Vegas".

    Then you winked.
Are the Warriors the second team to show off their new look? Could they be switching from the big circle to a "Warriors" wordmark on their jerseys? Or are you just saying one team won't be showing off their new twordmark in summer league?

Was originally posted on reddit then they QRTd it. But this would be cool if rebrand or City. @Conrad. Can you confirm if full rebrand or one off (city)??

Tweet says black, but tag says charcoal. Gotta be a city edition or just the shirt color not the jersey. Departing from navy with their main look would be mighty wild.

My ONLY opinion that gives benefit of the doubt to manufacturers is that it's easier to create designs that look great in a graphics design program, while doing it in an actual real-world application can get complicated. But even this sentiment can easily be argued by the fact Maryland had those crazy airbrushed helmets, jerseys from Nike and UA in the past have been pretty detailed. But it does seem like lately, with Nike especially, they are going for simple and easy to apply designs (Jets boring triangles, Falcons triangle side panels, Cardinals basically recycling what the Lions did a few years back, etc)

But, if we ever saw anything like the Jaguars, Buccaneers or Browns uniforms from Nike's first round of having their hands on the NFL, people on these boards would have gasped at how bad they were -- even as concepts, which usually get more of a thumbs up for good work, even if they're crazy.

It is mind boggling that more of us didn't actually get jobs working in these areas, I even tried for a long time and couldn't get in anywhere. Right now somebody at Nike who really loves drop shadows, text on stripes and gradients has too loud of a voice and too many people scratching their back...

We can make whatever we want on here. We don't have to answer to owners, stakeholders, marketing execs, focus groups, etc.

Who knows how many times those people have gotten in the way of designs this board would love.
